bandages
GetMyGrooveBack replied to jaredghobrial1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the opposite.. Mine barely moved and the were looking so yucky, after about 10 days, I took off and put on bandaid waterproof with their neosporin like on the bandaid. Omg, those suckers were so stuck to my skin, my belly has more marks from that than my incisions! Lol.. -
Just a quick check in. I got sleeved on 10/12/15. I am currently 255 pounds, down from 320 on surgery day. Looking to get between 200 and 210. I'm lifting and doing cardio 5 days a week, sometimes two a days. I can't explain how amazing this surgery is or how amazing I feel. If you're considering it.. and you have the willpower to make it work... DO IT!

My activities for Wednesday 7/23/08 I started another BFL challenge on Monday, it is 84 days and I'm hoping it will get me back in the grove of exercising. Today was the lower body workout, I went to the gym and gave it my all. My knee just wouldn't let me do some of the stuff, and when I felt pain, I had to stop because I didn't want to damage it further. I was afraid pushing myself/my knee/ would cause a set back, so I held off on some of the stuff I wanted to do Quads - leg presses Hamstrings - lying leg extentions, straight leg dead lifts Calfs - calf raises Abs - ab crunches with 10 lb weights, and inclined sit ups Menu bfast - cottage cheese mixed with yogurt snack - 3 strawberries lunch - whole wheat tortia, 3 oz chicken breast and hot pace picante sauce snack - necterine dinner - 3/4 cup of pinto beans wt - didn't weigh, trying not to focus on the scales for the next couple of weeks and really focus on feeling better and exercise.

how many of you are ok with eating 30 carbs or lower
WL WARRIOR replied to Sheilawillwin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I ate less than 20 carbs a day for the first 5 months post op. It is hard to do because you can't eat much fruits and vegetables. My carb intake increased to 60 after 5 months and I still kept losing weight. I was certain that I had to keep my carb intake dramatically low (there were many weeks I ate less than 10 carbs a day) in order to lose weight. Apparently, that is not necessarily true. Or, maybe my metabolism is functioning differently now so that I can handle an increase in carbs and still lose weight. I'm just not certain. You may try increasing your carb intake and see if it has any effect on your weight loss. I'm sure you know that the carbs that come from sugar and starches are a bad idea. It's best to get your carbs from fruits and vegetables. Be aware that the carb count from fruits and vegetables varies quite a bit. For example, cauliflower has much fewer carbs than peas or corn. Foods like bananas, cranberries, carrots, potatoes, apple juice, orange juice, bagels, bread, dry Cereal, popcorn, rice, lima Beans, ketchup, Pasta, and raisins have a very high carb count. The book, "The Zone" is a great resource to have when counting daily carbs. It explains the glycemic index of carbohydrates in a variety of foods. -

Breathing Post Surgery?
JennyB replied to Iwant2Bthatgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like Lissa stated, you should have been given a spirometer, you should be using it for breathing 10 times an hour or when watching TV 5 times every commercial break. My lungs almost collapsed due to this not being done, the hospital brought it in my room while I was still out of it after surgery and just set it on the side table but never went over using it with me. Even after I came home for 10 days my surgeon had me doing it. -
So I had my 2 week visit today and got to move onto puree foods. The most exciting thing was to learn that I am @ 19% loss and down to 347 from my start weight of 409. WooHoo

Inches not pounds?
cyncitygirl replied to Luckystar12's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am in your boat! Our stats are similar! Pre-op:260 SW:244 Current weight:219 Surgery date 1/10/13. 3 months out. I was losing steadily and when I finally get in this groove of more workouts and a higher pace, nothing!! I can't break past 219. The scale goes between 219-222. Gimme a break!! But I send feel smaller and more fit. I just hope in a month I see a big difference. Today I are at Baja Fresh and ordered the skinny wahoo fish bowl (no rice sub more Beans though next time I think I will sun more veggies). It is 3 pieces of grilled mahi 2oz each and a bowl w cabbage, black beans and this really good mango salsa. It's so good. With out the rice it came to 459 calories and it lasted me three meals (lunch, snack and dinner). It's gonna be my new go-to if I have to eat out. Hope my body recognizes the effort I'm making!! Please keep me posted on your weight loss!! -
Today marks my 1st anniversary of my life saving surgery. For me it was life saving I was on the verge of going out. You could say a heart attack just waiting to happen because of poor choices. I have not posted in a long time for I have been doing a little experiment the last 3 months. I got into bad choices on my own I have been trying to deal with WLS on my own. I have the support of my wife and family but wanted to see if I could do it on my own. (I CAN). I will always be in debt for the support that this forum and Myfitness pal and everyone on it has shown and given to me. We are not alone in our fight to be thin use what ever support you can find and never be ashamed to ask for it. My story is like thousands of others. I started this journey at 290 lbs I was on 11 different medications everything from diabetic to heart meds my health was going down hill fast. My doctor suggested WLS as a way to prolong my life. 1 Year later I have lost a total of 110 lbs I'm currently at 180 lbs the only meds I take are a multi Vitamin and a Iron pill. My diabetes is GONE my acid reflux GONE my high blood pressure GONE all the rest of my problems are GONE. I have just come back from my Heart doctor and have been give a CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH my heart is fine. I will live to see my son grow up and go to collage to get married and to some day make me a grand pa. I know it's only been a year and the test of time is and will be my biggest challenge . A lesson for all that are waiting for their surgery DO not be afraid to ask for help this will be the hardest thing you will ever do. Your life will never be the same again it will BE BETTER And I'm not done I want to lose 10 more lbs doctor says no when they remove the excess skin I will have lost 8-15 lbs more and I may not be health for me. All I know is I never want to go back to what I looked like a year ago Thank you all for all your support

tips to keep a stall from bumming you out?
matt1912 replied to tiredmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Sleeved July 17, 2014 Total weight loss in 4 months is 105 lbs. Number of stalls in that time frame: well over 10 I was told by a good friend who had gastric surgery before I did to "Expect the stalls. They are part of it." The key aspect to remember is that weight loss and healthy living is an aggregate measurement over the long term - stalls are temporary, short term pauses while your body makes a corrective change. Your job is to keep doing what YOU need to do to allow your body to help heal/shrink/repair/nourish itself. Don't sweat stalls...they are coming- just like your weight loss is coming. The only difference is the stalls are temporary and the weight loss is long term. You will do fine... relax and enjoy the ride -
My plastic surgeon is in Fort Worth. She is awesome. Very much a perfectionist and wonderful dr. She did surgery on one of "The Biggest Loser" contestants. She's been in D Magazine as top docs several years. Dr Candis Lovelace in FW/Keller. I consulted with multiple dr and she won hands down. I'm a nurse at one of the hospital she uses and the OR staff think she's great!! Even her office staff are incredible!! I just posted 10 weeks post LBL on another thread. Good luck! Holly

tips to keep a stall from bumming you out?
tiredmama posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi folks! I am 6 weeks post surgery and having my first real stall- scale hasn't moved in 10 days. :-( I knew this would happen eventually (from these boards and my surgeon also warned me) but it is still bumming me out! Anyone have any tips to help get through a stall without getting too discouraged or anxious that it will last forever? -
I am about 4 months out and started having back pain. Nothing like I've experienced before. I was telling my brother who also went through weight loss surgery about 10 years ago. He's always had back problems but they became a lot worse after surgery. He was told by his back doctor that it was caused by the muscle loss in his back due to the surgery. This may be the same reason you all are experiencing this. I've been working out and trying to build my muscles back.

I purchased a topper around 5 months and wear it every day. My hair has started to regrow now (almost 10 months post op), and I anticipate it being back within 6 months. I’m wearing it in my profile photo.

Most successful and healthy 'losers' who've been wls patients for a while disagree with doctors who say 'no Protein supps'....with a small pouch it's simply impossible to eat right and get as much protein as your body needs to maintain healthy muscles and hair and energy. I've 10 mo. out and still couldn;t eat enough solid foods to get my 100 gr. of protein. I don't use them as meal subsitutes very often, but they certainly help with the cravings and satisy a need for a sweet now and then. For examples.........I use the nectar Cappacino or Matrix chocolate in my coffee in the mornings (I add a little creamer) , the IDS vanilla/cinnamon in my hot tea, Nectar Peach Navel in Chrystal Lite or Water or tea, OrangeCream Matrix with water and ice as a smoothie. (I order mine from www.bariatriceating.com - they will send you a packet of samples if you want to try a lot of flavors/brands. I usually order what I need when they are on sale). My very favorite protein supplement is Micellar Milk....you can get it at VitaminShoppe store or at BE.com. or www.netrition.com (their shipping is less). It is 17 oz, 40 gr protein and it tastes somewhat like rice pudding. Lots of people use it in their coffee - I drink it straight (the vanilla).

Hey I just saw this on another board!!!! New Center of Excellence in Kansas!!! Original Post by Carolanne S at 5:19 PM CST on 02/05/2007 SOMEWHERE IN..., KS Shawnee Mission Medical Center was approved as of 1/24/07 as a center of excellence. That will allow medicare patients to have bariatric surgery in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The only question is wheather a surgeon associated with SMMC will perform surgery. I attended a seminar from Dr Hoehn and Dr Hitchcock and they were sort of reluctant to do medicare patients if SMMC were to become a COE due to the reimbursments from medicare. Its all about the money!

Post Op Care for Mexico Patients
revyinut replied to rene50's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve done in Tijuana in November 2019. I know of couple of people in my town who have also gone there and had no issues. Unfortunately, I'm having issues with GERD and it's become unbearable. I reached out to one of the Dr.'s on my surgeon's team and am not feeling very hopeful about any aftercare! She said what I'm experiencing is common and to try some stronger medication but also told me to go have an endoscopy done and send her the results - as if I can walk in anywhere and get an endoscopy. I asked her if I could travel there to have the endoscopy done and she said I could make an appt. with a gastroenterologist but said nothing of coming to their clinic. Absolutely, I want to see the surgeon or his associate who performed my surgery if I'm having issues from the surgery - that makes the most sense to me. I'm wishing I would have researched this in greater detail before having this done. -

United Healthcare UHC 6 Month Motivated Attempt
wannaBthinsoon replied to Stephanie Salsera Perrott's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained too. But then I found out they dropped the requirement, so no worries for me. You, however might want to do what I did on the month after I had a gain. I did a week of high Protein, no bread or sugar, and I dropped 10 pounds in 10 days, and went back to the Dr and had them document that weight instead. Of course I wasn't able to KEEP it off, but it showed I was trying. I think the diet is just a silly hoop. Just do your best. -
Tell me your 6/7 week stats and what you're eating/ate! Would love to know. I'm in a stall right now. I've been in a stall for a while. I'm doing okay though! SW: 264.4 CW: 231 I'm tolerating everything fine. Can really feel restriction now to an extent. I wasn't the first 4 weeks which scared me. I'm tolerating all foods and trying all allowed foods. Which is everything right now. Minus the obvious. Today I went to taco Mac. Got three roasted wings down. Was stuffed as a goose. Crazy I used to eat 10! Tell me about where you were/are at 6/7 weeks post op Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
