    Where's that list . . .

Here is my list: lab-band shopping list heating pad flexible ice pack liquid tylenol (they make adult strength) chewable or liquid gas-x a few books or movies comfy clothes (loose waisted shorts or jumpers) squishy pillow for car ride (guard against seatbelt) a sports bra (doc said no underwire for a few days) protien shakes flavored water make sure you have a good blender I bought a drink mixer for the protien mix (cost $10 at walmart) broth or stuff to make broth sugarfree popsicles and jello sugar free gum (ask your doctor) sugar free breathmints (ask your doctor) *Ask at your pre-op for the pain med prescription so you can have it all ready to go when you get home, our walgreens has to order liquid pain meds and it takes 3 days to get them.

    Tenderness/pains

Unless the skin is red and/or warm, you probably don't need to worry. I had all kinds of fleeting random pangs and pains in my early days post-op. If it persists for more than an hour or two, you could give your surgeon a call if it will alleviate your worries.
  3. I am having my sx here in az on Dec 5th. I start the "liquid diet" monday and am looking forward to the next step of this process. I am 5ft1 and 196 so i have about 90# to loose (that what they tell me) i would be thrilled with 75. I am private pay so needed to be SURE this was the answer. anyone with any suggestions for being successful with the protein shake and still feeding my family regular meals would be appreciated. also, am i allowed to have the turkey on thansgiving or is it really nothing? i thought maybe low fat protein might be okay??

Hey Gibson! I sure miss you around here! We need you to liven this place up sometimes. So, when your finger gets better and you aren't so busy, come and talk to us... I think you are doing an awesome job. Hey girl, your pants are getting loose and people are noticing. Those are the two best results of weight loss in my humble opinion. I love it when I have to toss out a pair of pants because they just don't fit anymore, or when I go to the office and people tug on my pants and tell me, "dang girl, you are just melting away!" That just makes my day!! I does make it all worth while. Don't worry about the amount of time it is taking to show on the scale. As long as it is going down, then you are doing it right! Before you know it, more months will have passed and more pounds will have been lost. I think you are awesome!
  5. You've lost 25 pounds in a month!!!! You also have 5cc's which is a huge amount of fill for someone at your stage. This is a will power diet until you get restriction. Both for food portions AND food choices. Ar you exercising? Until I went back to work after being unemployed I was doing up to 2.5 hours 7 days a week and loosing less than a pound a week.
  6. Hey Apple, I was stuck for 4 weeks and wouldn't loose a thing. I went back to counting my calories and drank 1 shake a day to help cut out some of the calories. It really helped. I am not exercising as I should but I am hoping to start walking in place while watching tv. Good Luck.
  7. Not having to wear a selt-belt extender. The door of the car not banging your hip, actually seeing your lap when sitting down, finding your first chest bone, seeing your toes, touching your toes, noticing my eyes are big now (seems the more weight I gained the larger amount of skin and puffier my eyes were, the smaller my actually eyes looked because of the weight around it. Noticing my cheek bones, sitting in a normal doctor's chair instead of standing around because I hated feeling wedged in. These are all mine recently, and oh my gosh they make me happy. I look forward to so many more!!
  8. I got my 3rd fill and I am finally seeing movement a couple of weeks later. Today I weighed 165 so I lost 3 lbs since my last fill. I am actually feeling resrtiction other than in the morning only. I didn't loose anything on fill 1 & 2.

    Update

Hey Gibson, sorry to hear you're under the weather and injured on top of it all. Hope things perk up for you soon. As far as being the slowest loser, maybe not, or maybe I'm tied with you. I've lost all of 9 pounds since my surgery on 2/15. The other 8 showing on my ticker is what I lost the week before surgery. How sad is that???? I lost more in 1 week than I have lost in the past 10 weeks after surgery.:frown: I do agree with what the others have said. Losing slowly is better than losing a lot fast. Your body has a chance to adjust to it's new size and the skin will hopefull shrink back down so you won't need ps down the line. Hang in there, we're all here for you.

    Restriction from nowhere

Does anyone know where you can go that's not expensive to have skin removed.
  11. I asked last week about pain after eating, she expalined that as the muscles start to digest your food, the muscle the port is stitched to may move a bit and it thats waht may be causing the pain she said anything band related will be felt in the chest area Also, I asked her why after and adjustment, it seems like I have restriction and then it evens out and she informed me that you have fat around your stomach band and as you loose weight, you loose that fat also causing the band to have more room, she said it will eventually stop doing that so Im only down 21 pounds in 2.5 months BUT Im not giving up.

May need to have RNY now :( FRUSTRATED

Well, the insurance says 200 calories a day is not a sufficient amount to do the tasks to required. I get tired after my morning routine of getting my young 4 year old off to school then taking a shower I need to rest after I do all of that. The surgeon said that often with Hiatus Hernia they will perform a bypass on individuals without obesity concerns to correct the issue. They are not doing the surgery so that I can loose more weight they are doing the surgery to try and correct the problem. The major issue with it though and the reason why they went with the sleeve surgery is that I have tremendous amounts of scar tissue which did not allow them to do the Roux-n-y to begin with so they are saying they will try but are not confident they will succeed. I really don't know what the outcome is going to be. I know I want my life back though I'm tired of waiting and putting my life on hold. Thanks for your kind words and support. On a positive note though one of the main reasons I went for this surgery was because of the sever back pain I lived with and I don't have any pain in my back now WOOHOOO. That makes me super happy
  13. I have heard too many horror stories about the band. From slippage, constant vomiting, hemorrhaging, and pieces coming loose!!? I would rather know that a decision I am making is sticking for life and will help me, not hurt me. These surgeries are lifestyle changes - I don't think any one person who makes the decision to endure this journey would want to take it back and be heavier again. So the sleeve is worth a lifetime to me.

    Skin and Sex...

My thoughts are love is unconditional. Except yourself and like you and hopefully your mate will do the same. As the weight drops, perhaps being able to visit new positions will make up for any loose skin. Just sayin. Wink. Wink. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App

    Skin and Sex...

No issues at all. I tell my husband he needs ironing, but I love every piece of saggy skin and vice versa. If they love us fat they love us saggy! Good luck, be healthy!

    Skin and Sex...

I guess it's good to keep in mind that if you have always been bigger (a BBW) that he may be attracted to that. Seeing you smaller may be weird to him. Of course true love is unconditional, and if he really LOVES you he should want you to be healthier. But drastic weight loss does often take a toll on relationships, and not just because of loose skin. Communication is key, make sure you discuss all of this beforehand. What type of body he is attracted to may make a difference. Also, his weight and attitudes towards food matter as well.

    Questions after first fill

I have exactly the same issue. I have 4cc in a 10cc band and I have no restriction. I can still have large portions of food at a time (3 meatballs, rice, beans and a tortilla) I love my mexican food. Its a bit disappointing that I can still eat all that. I am loosing weight (surgery on 11/03/08; lost 40 pounds) so I am not sure about "fills" and "restriction". This whole experience is not what they make it out to be when you go to the pre-surgery seminars. I have yet to get full on 1 or 2 ounces of food.

How doable is 30 day ab challenge?

You can do it -- just like today was doable a little more each day 'til you're there. I am about to have surgery so won't be cleared for this for six weeks but then I am so there with you! Got to tone so I won't be a bag of loose skin!
  19. I'm two months sleeved as of yesterday - I've made up my mind not to compare myself to anyone else's successes but I do love hearing about everyone's experiences. For me - three weeks pre op diet - 20 pounds First month after sleeve - down 21 pounds second month - 12 pounds. Slowed down - but I'm still consistently loosing so I'm not going to stress. My do's and don'ts - I drink lots of Water - always have, been staying mostly around 700 calories a day, that's about all I can fit in anyways. My NUT said to do closer to 1000 and 1200 calories - I just don't see how it's possible! Carbs I stay away from most breads, Pasta, but if I have a craving, a small bit seems to tide me over. I don't stress over fruit or veggie carbs. I still look forward to food and enjoy planning my next yummy meal - I throw spinach into everything - yum. I take my B-12's and a liquid multiday from costco. Also switched out dairy milk for unsweetened almond milk. Went back to work at 10 days post off (although I did have my husband drive me in so I could complete month end at three days post off, just for a couple hours). For me going back to work was very good - too my mind off food those first few ultra restrictive days. And I still drink my coffee - yup - I'm a rebel. I didn't function without it. Made a world of difference in my day and my energy when I added back a cup a day at 4 weeks out. Exercise - I'm still working on. I know the importance of it - it's just hard to get myself moving early in the morning which is my only time to work out. I've done pretty good the last week but not so much this week. Overall - I'm thrilled - I look better and feel great! I have not been this weight since I was 20 years old back when I started on the evil birth control pills. I have a work conference in Cabo in 3 months and I'm really really hoping to show off Wonderland.

    No fill but losing again

I went in for a fill a week ago but it wasn't successful. The needle was too short, they could feel it and touch it with the tip of the needle, but not fill it. Something clicked though - cause I'm losing again. The total loss is 25 lbs now - still doesn't sound like much to me, but I was completely stalled for several weeks so I'm glad the scale is moving again! I started my new job - and I'm moving more - walking to the train - walking up and down stairs instead of taking the elevator - walking to the bank - even working out in the on site gym. (I haven't hit the gym regularly yet, but I've been there a few times to use the treadmill) Honestly - I looked at my a$$ in the mirror 2 days ago - and all-be-darned - its a shape I haven't seen in years!! I'm loosing that flap of belly roll down by my hoochie too! I still have a long way to go - but the visual changes are SO encouraging. I'm going to go back in for a fill after I lose about 5 more pounds. I've had a hard time lately with certain foods - breads especially - and some meat - like sausage - so I've cut back in those areas and been reminded to eat slowly, chew carefully. It's easy to forget otherwise!!

  22. I have mine December 5th. I’m freakimg out wondering if this is right for me. Will I regret it etc. I keep praying to god to show me a sign of I should continue down this path. I’m so terrified and feel like my family doesn’t understand how confused I am. I’m 7 days away from surgery date. I thinking about calling my surgeon and either canceling it. I’m not sure what to do. I’m 278 right now, my highest weight was 320. I’ve lost 9lbs since the pre op diet. Can anyone give me advice on what i should do? I’m so scared and don’t know if I should do this on my own. I just don’t want to be in the position I was before. 😭 I know I need to loose the weight I’m just scared that I will be miserable. Food addiction is hard and that’s the reason I’m here, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to enjoy my foods. I’m scared of throwing up or feeling sick etc. My family thinks I shouldn’t get it done and I wish I didn’t tell them because that also makes me second guess myself. I’m scared that i am going to fail not staying on track with my vitamins, or seeing foods and having cravings feeling miserable because I can’t have any. Dealing with complications etc. I feel like I will regret either way I get the surgery or not. My boyfriend thinks I works hard to get all the way to this point it would be foolish of me to give up now. I thought about maybe asking my surgeon to do the (reshape) balloon instead since this is temporary and I can see how I handle this before making a lifetime commitment. I’m also scared of that too because I recently read an article about 5 people dying but not knowing if these were the cause of death. Thoughts?

    Any tips?

I wore a loose dress and flip flops to and from the hospital, spent the rest of the time in the gowns they provided. Didn't wear bras, they were too much of a hassle. Bring a phone charger! Chapstick. After you have the surgury, start walking as soon as you can handle it, it helps get rid of excess gas and works the anesthesia out of your system! Sip water often as soon as you get the OK.

    helpppppp please

Thank you for everything...now u said u did self pay and I'm just curious I'm 19 and my credits not too high. Did you have to have good credit for that carecrdit? I think that sounds like a great option for me I just need to know what hoops I have to jump through for each option. Are payments pretty high up there? Did that include airfare? Also about the procedure did you loose pretty fast ? Thank youcomfortable and full faster but able to swallow w/o vomiting- when u reach it that is when It all begins life changes as u know it! This has truly changed my life.... No more tv for me..... now I love to play basketball with the family, ride bikes, go to the beach , live life without being afraid b/c of my size. No more back pain either!!!!!! And also since I was self pay I didn't have to do any pre surgery visits I just called and 2 weeks later I was having the surgery.

    helpppppp please

I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you, if you haven't found a way to finance please look up the care credit. I wouldn't say its the lowest finance you could get - i do have a great credit score but I wanted it fast and it was the fastest route- I knew i would be able to pay it off in a year. Don't let lack of credit detour you from trying though. If you call them they will answer your questions about how much your monthly payment will be and so forth. It took me matters of minutes to be approved. Airfare is not included. I live in Michigan about 4 hours away from detroit. Did I loose fast? ok I'm in constant loss of weight but in the beginning it was a struggle because I didn't have the restriction so its not like you wake up and pounds just drop off. When I finally got restriction.......wow they fell off. Now my body is totally different therefore my mind is different (I feel so much better about myself) and I do sooooo many different activities (exercise does not mean u have to b at a gym it can be riding bikes, play ball ect.) but I want to do those things. I started out at 264 and I am now 182 (and still losing its been a year 2mo.) I'm 5'5" tall and am not a skinny minnie but I feel great about the skin I'm in now. I can go into a store and try 10 outfits on and they all fit-now its trying to decide what one to buy instead of just hoping one will fit right! If there is one point of advice I can give you is please get your fill every 6weeks until you reach your sweet spot. I didn't and I could've been further along a lot quicker. We are what some may call lap band orphans I've learned throughout the journey and a lot of my info comes from this site. I've fought my whole life with my weight losing many times each time gaining more than when I'd started. I would keep it off for 2-3 years then balloon up. You are so young I believe you would be so happy! I wish I had done it sooner. I researched it for 2 years b4 I made the commitment. Same reasons as you the finance. My husband and I stayed at the " hospital motel" I want to say it costs something like $14 or $17 under 20 anyway. I wish you the very best in this journey!!!!
