First off, I hate you! JK! I have never been to Hawaii, how fun! I just spent this last week traveling and found it pretty easy in the airport to get something that I could eat. I found a Quiznos and had them grill some chicken with swiss for me, that was pretty good. There is usually some place that makes burritos, you could eat the filling. Most of the salads are huge, but I have had a side salad and asked for a grilled chicken breast. You just have to be creative and ask for what you know you can eat. I really have not had too many problems in restaurants ordering. I just tell them what I need and it usually works out great. Sometimes the hotel will offer a Breakfast, and they usually have oatmeal, that seems to really work well for me in the morning. You could bring plain Protein powder to add to your meals, that will ensure that you get your protein in. Just don't forget your Water, I made sure to get one before each flight, so I had something on the plane. Hope that helps a little, have fun on your trip! I wish I could go somewhere warm and sunny!

Not to brag (OK maybe a little), but I am scheduled to travel for business Dec 6. I have travelled since my band but not anywhere this far. I am going to HAWAII!!! I will be in planes/airports for 14 hours. On the planes they sell sandwiches and chips. I have looked in food courts in airports and most of the places are not ideal. I really am surprised how much our culture revolves around bread. Anyway, I am wondering on food choices and what to pack. I don't think I can take Protein drinks with me in the carry-on. Also not sure how to get exercise in while I am gone. Any ideas?

Hi everyone! I was sleeved 7/18/16, so I'm just over a week post-op. My surgeon has us go right into puréed foods, but I honestly cannot eat. The only thing my stomach will allow me is Water, which I drink plenty of. Protein shakes, yogurt, etc. I can only have maybe 1 oz of. I am worried this will effect my health. I am going to my doctor tomorrow so of course I will ask him about this too, but I figured I would see if anyone else has had this issue. Day 5 Post-Op & Drank Slim Fast Today
DirtyHarriett replied to MississippiQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't say you were screwed, but slim fast? Have a quality protein drink if you must. Clear liquids are the hardest phase ever. I was on protein shakes, sf pudding and cream of soups at five days. I am two weeks tomorrow and getting to have some puréed. Woot! -
Confused about eating for protein or hunger...
browneyedgirl1981 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm post-op week one as of today. So, I know I need to get my Protein in, at least 70 grams per day. So my question, if I don't physically feel hungry, do I still need to eat (even if it is liquids), just to get my protein in? -
Huge Emergency Issue. Proti-Diet liquid protein is NOT vegetarian/kosher and my surgery is Monday!
JerseyCityGal replied to JerseyCityGal's topic in Food and Nutrition
I called my surgeons office and they said Isopure would be an appropriate substitute, so I went to GNC last night and bought enough bottles for the first two weeks post-surgery. A lot of really good suggestions here for vegetarian/kosher options. Surgery is Monday, so I have a couple of weeks to check them all out and place a few orders and see which ones my taste buds like best when I get a couple of weeks out. I really want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions. -
Huge Emergency Issue. Proti-Diet liquid protein is NOT vegetarian/kosher and my surgery is Monday!
JerseyCityGal replied to JerseyCityGal's topic in Food and Nutrition
These are all good suggestions for Stage II, but Stage I has to be a liquid Protein in Water , sort of like those MIO squeeze bottles that you squirt the liquid in the water. My instructions say I can't have any shakes until Stage II. It's extremely hard to get hold of the nutritionists at my surgeons office. It took six or seven calls over a week and a half last time, plus a few e-mails. I can't believe I would be the first person in Northern New Jersey that they would have run across that has these restrictions. It would be like being surprised to find out there are Alaskans in Alaska. -

so you have to have vegetarian drinks? never heard of that being a requirement pre-surgery. Is that a sleeve thing? My dr. put me on a liver shrinking diet pre-surgery. Protein drinks /bars and one lean cuisine at dinner. lost 10 lbs pre-surgery. -

so confused and upset at week 2 with weight loss
jallsop replied to liguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery the same day u did. I came home from the hospital weighing 16lbs more than I did the day of surgery due to all the IV fluids. I was 236 DOS, 252 day of hospital d/c and at 2 wks out I am 221. I have been on liquid diet w some puréed food but I really haven't eaten much. I am really struggling to get my protein and fluids in so congrats to u!!!! The one thing that struck me about what u wrote is all the exercise u are doing. I haven't even been cleared to exercise yet, see my surgeon Wednesday for 2 wk postop. Just today I went to the gym for the first time and just walked the treadmill at 2.5 for 30 min. Just be careful and I'm wondering if the extra exercise and few calories being taken in could actually be working against u. Well I wish u only the best of luck! This sure is a bit of a challenge to figure out, isn't it!!??? -

Just ate one of these for lunch. I tried to attach picture. It was perfect for lunch. They have 4 different kinds. I paid about 1.50$ last night at Target. Anyone else have any experience with these? -

Today is my first day on liquids. I am not a fan of milk so milk based Protein shakes gross me out but I am dealing with it. I had decaf coffee and then put my Premier Protein shake in the blender with ice and instant decaf coffee. It wasn't terrible just wish I had food :-( The good news is that I am not hungry. I am trying to drink Water but I felt myself getting nauseous so I stopped for a while. Wish me luck!!

I also try to keep a 40/30/30 ratio for protein/carbs/fat. Don't always succeed though. I was told by my NUT to be eating between 800 and 1200 calories per day. I go to the lower end on non workout days, the higher end on workout days. I try to work out 4 to 5 days a week (again, that 5 days doesn't always happen because life gets in the way sometimes. LOL!). I Swim for 45 minutes or so twice a week, do cardio/ heavy weights twice a week and take one class called body works plus abs (which amounts to a fast and light weights) class once a week. -
question please..

I am 11 weeks out and I also have gone up to 1100 calories a day. I have felt the same but realize that as long as I am not eating junk and what I am eating is protein or fiber then I am good. I make sure I am drinking 48-64 ounces of water and the next day i try mu best to stay within 800 to 900 calories. The scale is still moving. Slower than in the brginning but it is moving doen... 40 pounds down.

Since we can only put so much food in our pouch, why not choose the healthiest and tastiest options? Wow, there are some really delicious recipes out there that are both nutritious and low carb/fat, etc. I'm going to still have cookouts, I'll just cook the "heavy fillers" for the guest and make sure I put in a couple of "healthy gourmet dishes" for us body conscious peeps. No need to suffer in our journey.

June 5 here! I am curious to know as well...about the prep. I have started getting my kitchen needs together. (I didn't have a food processor/blender) and making a hospital packing list. Also, trying to find the best place to buy protein powders.

Sleeved in April anyone got exercise tips
Barry W replied to possum83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what equipment you have, but a basic regimen I am using at the gym now that I have recently started going back is: - curls (bicep) - either lat pulldowns (bicep/trapezius/lats) or rows (bicep/trapezius) - bench press (shoulders and pecs) - fly (shoulders and pecs) - military press (shoulders and triceps) or tricep extension (triceps) - leg extensions (quads) - leg curls (hamstrings) - leg adbduction (hips/butt) - leg adduction (hips/inner thigh) - toe raises (calves) at 3 positions of foot alignment - abdominal curl/crunch in machine (abs) - abdominal extension in machine (lower back) From the mat: - leg raises (abs) - crunches (abs) - side leg raises (butt and thigh) - supine trunk twisting w/bent legs (lower back flexibility) - standing trunk twisting (lower back flexibility) - toe (or as far as you can go ) touching (lower back and hamstring flexibility) - overhead stretch (upper back and shoulder flexibility) Not saying that you need to do these things, there are lots of options, but this covers the body fairly well and gives some muscle work as well as flexibility work. I am older - 56, and I spent 15 years as a young man reading about and doing weightlifting, and another thing I'd suggest is that while muscleheads and trainers, especially young ones say "no-pain/no-gain!" and also advise one to choose a heavier weight allowing you to do no more than 8 reps to build maximum strength.... if you are older, maybe dealing with some injuries, aren't that flexible, or just haven't been exercising, I would say absolutely do not do that. Choosing a weight that allows you to do 15-20 reps before exhaustion will still allow you to build strength and build muscles, but (1) you'll have more endurance, which is helpful in practical situations, and (2) your likelihood of herniating or tearing a muscle, or tearing or even snapping a tendon, will be a lot lower too. The pain of lactic acid burn is one thing, but the pain of an injury is something else.
