How did you stock your fridge/pantry with for post op?
stoongal replied to tennessee1031's topic in Food and Nutrition
I got a 6 pk of Isopure Protein drink and have bought them at least 3 more times, drink them even now..I didn't use any of my pkgs of SF Jello, but did stock up on homemade chicken broth - ate the chicken from it later as I chopped the meat up fine and added them to the diet as i progressed. Yogurt and fatfree cottage cheese worked well for me, poached eggs after a couple of weeks, and, like Tiffy, loved the babybel lowfat cheeses (could nibble them to mush slowly early on) I bought way too much protein powders, and have most of them still sitting here 3 months later, so go slow on those, wait til afterwards. Canned broths or soups you can strain out the solids for week 2 are great. Crystal lite - banana strawberry orange is my fav, as we all seem not to enjoy plain Water for quite a while, but do dilute well as they will be too sweet at first. Grape juice and unsweetened applesauce are good at first too! Hope this list is a help! -

I only lost 3.8 lbs in July
suejersey replied to O2BSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes the body just needs time to catch up. And I find that I may not lose one week and the next week lost 3 or 4. So don't despair. Make sure you are getting ENOUGH calories, too! Some good things to bring with you for snacks/lunch: cheese sticks Dry roast edamame Greek Yogurt lunch meat babybel cheese Flatbread or tortilla (low carb/calorie) with 1 or 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter Protein powder (shaker bottle) cottage cheese beef Jerky (I love jerky hut jerky - 90 calories 14 grams of protein (I think) for 1 ounce - very filling but very meaty) Try to start walking just to build up your stamina and then add to it as you feel stronger. I really didn't exercise (other than walking) until I was about 7 months out. I started at the gym when I was 200 pounds (started at 278) before that I really don't think I would have been able to handle it. So walking (like walking the dog pace) a few days a week was all I got up to that point and I still lost. Not saying that is the best way to do it, but for me I focused on getting the nutrition and losing enough that I felt I could handle more intense exercise. (I also, because of my job sit at my desk typing for 8 - 10 hours a day 6 days a week -so I was VERY, VERY out of shape). I am now doing zumba, body pump, Warrior Workout, HIIT classes. So you will improve your fitness very quickly (4 months for me going from 30 minutes on the treadmill to the above) Good luck and you can do it. Keep working at it and make it a lifestyle and you will see the results. My new favorite saying is: Fit is hard. Fat is hard. Pick your hard. (Not my quote - but I love it!) Work hard....see results! -

Weight gain is caused by high protein food and lack or exercise. Exercise and proper diet are very important to lose weight and improve fitness. Avoid all high protein food like meats, nuts, grains, cheese, fast foods, fried and dairy products. Eat fresh fruits, vegetables, yogurt, drink green tea, fruit juices and plenty of water. Go for walking, running, cycling, practice push ups, bench press and chair squat. It improve mood, burns fat, make strong bones and muscles, boost energy, improve heart functions and improve fitness. Why did I do this?
bellzfamily replied to Elisha1015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was December 2nd. I should have been out on Thursday the 4th. My bowels would not wake up...I could not pass gas. I walked my rear off. I fought hard too. Friday the 5th I decided enough is enough and would walk til I could not go anymore, take a short break and walk again. Still no gas coming out. By 430 I was having projectile vomit, my IV wouldn't support a drip and I was so dehydrated they couldn't get any others to go....after and this # is accurate I counted 24 sticks from various people a guy came in and got one on the first try in my foot! It worked. So from 430pm to 12am I was being stuck. Finally exhausted I crashed. The next morning I was slowly passing gas. I was discharged Sunday about 430pm. Had my first post op today. I told them I felt like I just opened my front door to publishers clearning house and they had a check for the rest of my life back along with all the other hoopla. I can tell you I cried several times while in the hospital...said to mulitiple nurses I can't believe I did this to myself. But each of them encouraged me to believe it would get better. I have a full 4 weeks of soft foods, nothing thicker than greek yogurt. When we checked out my hubby under my encouragement went to a Wendy's got himself a burger with cheese meal...the smell doesn't bother me. Just me for now I know there will be challenges but being this overweight has taken away so many options for my life! I feel like I am empowered to take them back! -

Day 3 Post Op: does it suck this bad for everyone?
jaminator replied to Jenopolis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine done Wednesday and feel a lot better today. Been walking about two miles a day. I am taking the minimu m drugs. Carafate and acid reducer. They gave me hydrocodone but not taking that. Using Tylenol instead. Forcing myself to sip water all day. Today I went to smoothie king and got a high protein smoothie with yogurt and it made me feel a lot better. -
Cottage cheese ?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to kaysunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sure what you mean about without a NUT. Do you have a written post-op food plan? For my program, cottage cheese and yogurt were included in my full liquid phase. -
Your weight loss is on target. No you do not need to eat whey based protein powders. The numbers for the one you like sound okay. The extreme fatigue may in part be due to not meeting your protein requirements. I used FAGE 0% greek yogurt to my protein shakes for an added protein boost. A half a cup will give you 65cal 5carbs 13gms protein and 5sugar. I would add it to my morning protein shake since I worked out first thing. It was a terrific protein boost and fueled my day. You do need to watch your carbs and sugar throughout the rest of the day, but this helped get me started and kept me going without fatigue. It also made it easier to meet my protein goals by the end of the day so I had more time to focus on getting in my water.

@@BellaLuce4 Thank you. I'm surprised how much I can actually get down. I had 20oz of coconut water, 4oz Of plain water and 4oz of isopure. Better than I thought it would be. I also had 1 tablespoon of Fage 2% plain yogurt mixed with another tablespoon of chobani banana Greek yogurt. It was delicious. I just ate really slow and I was able to get it all in. I'm not pushing it though. I'm just sipping water for the rest of the night!

No restriction?
Colorado Cowgirl replied to AnnieD78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure it is all protein. A full egg is 7 grams of protein and only one ounce in volume. Log your food so that you are getting enough protein. I also ate refried beans at that stage. It's high in protein. Greek yogurt too. Add unflavored protein powder to all your meals including eggs before you cook them. It will help keep hunger away. -
What everyone else said. Be sure to keep yourself hydrated. Do thinned out Protein shakes to keep some nutrition going in. If you get to the point that liquids don't go down, call you surgeon's office even though it's a weekend. Tell then you cannot get liquids down and ask for instructions. Dehydration doesn't take long to set in, and man, do you feel horrible. So, please stay on top of it. I was overfilled once. I could not get yogurt or mashed potatoes down. Put up with it for a week hoping it would get better. I'd had 1cc put in. Had 1/2cc taken out...instant relief. A month later, things had calmed down....I went back and had another 1cc put in. Don't be miserable, it sucks.

Not wanting to go to next phase
gomekast replied to ualaw08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way. My nurses didnt blame me and said it was not a big deal. I did what another poster said and took my time. If I wanted to try puree chicken I did..but stuck with the yogurts and shakes. Now, 3 months post op, I have a tiny sleeve that doesn't allow for much. I like it that way too. -
6 weeks out and everything I eat gives me ouchie pouch
ready2B replied to Homecie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks out now and there are times things hurt my pouch too. I am on a regular diet now, but I can't seem to tolerate meat of any kind right now, even though I could 3 weeks ago. My NUT explained that some of us don't have the stomach enzymes that we need to break certain foods down like meats at first, and it takes some people longer than others to be able to eat them again. Be patient. In the meantime, I can eat cheese, yogurt, edamame, and a bunch of other things just fine and can get in my Protein with non-meat things. I do find if I eat or ever drink a sip of Water too fast, my ouch will cramp up and it HURTS!! It will take up to a couple of hours sometimes to quit cramping. I just wait it out, maybe sip some warm camomile tea, and then it all seems okay again. -
Hello June 2014 BPs! I start my pre-op, liquid diet tomorrow and I know that I am not alone. So, let's get a June 2014, pre-op diet support thread going! After going through five different brands (thank goodness for sample packets!), I finally settled on Syntrax Nectars Fuzzy Naval for the first few days of shakes. In addition to that I've got sugar free pudding, popsicles, Jello and Greek yogurt 100 calorie. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Surgery is getting close! What's everyone stocked up on? How are you feeling?

Walking 5 miles per day and can really tell weight loss in my face and waist. I start puréed foods on Tuesday. Dr. won't let me back into the gym for another month. I can't wait to get there!! Every day is different for me. I think everything I eat has at one time or another gotten stuck. Lunch seems to be the best time for me, mornings I'm tight, oatmeal after 9 am is usually ok, sometimes some yogurt. Lunch is fairly open with some restrictions, no bread. Cant tolorate it at all. Dinner is touch and go. Sometimes I eat whatever the family is eating, and sometimes it just ain't gonna happen and I bring out the soup. Good thing i love soup!

Hunger, Cravings, etc. Post-Op
Spiceyfrog replied to sarahbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ejones8979 when I went to my post-op appointment last Friday, the doctor told me I could transition this Tuesday, which will be two weeks exactly. I am looking forward to it, but more for a change of pace, not that I am craving food. I went shopping today and stocked up on Soup, yogurt, pudding and cottage cheese :-) -
Disneyland trip - 5 weeks Post-Op
ladylaura replied to Cyndie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Disneyland is really good for healthy options now. I see yogurt and such everywhere there! Also, they are REALLY accommodating if there are food allergies or any dietary special needs. I would just ask the waiter or waitress, or at the food counters and they can probably suggest something or even blend it up for you! -
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with this phase, it sounds like you have it all together, I may try some of those things you're doing and see it works for me! I live in a foreign country so I understand! I guess I'm finding it hard because I'm just not hungry so I don't want to eat, but I know I need to but if I'm still full from the previous meal why force myself to eat?! The struggle is real Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I hear you but you do have to force yourself on the protein a bit. My doctor wants me getting at least 60-70 grams a day. That's why the shakes are so clutch. Honestly I grabbed a bunch of single packs for this trip last minute and thank god I did. I don't know how I would have hit my goals without them. I just checked and I only have 3 left for 4 more days and I had been relying on them 2x a day. So I'm going to need to force myself to eat like fish or something on a strict schedule over the next 4 days or I won't hit my goals. It's really hard though. Like this morning I had to leave for the airport around 6 am. I woke up at 5 and forced myself to choke down a half a Greek yogurt. I sooo didn't want it, I'm never hungry that early. But now I'm on a plane and won't be anywhere near food/protein until at least noon. I looked frantically in the airport for a protein shake but they didn't have them. So even the measly 7 grams of protein I got from the yogurt was a worthwhile battle because without it I'd be at 0. Actually I just remembered I threw my last babybel in my bag so I can eat that now. I don't think we're ever supposed to be "hungry" at this stage. I would happily just sip fuids at this point. If it helps you at all- I make my protein shakes with milk for added protein. They have milk in Germany! Wow you're doing great, I guess I really need to focus more and really make sure I'm getting in my Proteins and such whether I'm hungry or not, I've been using almond milk never been a huge fan of milk unless it's in Cereal. Thank you for taking the time to respond with helpful tips/info I appreciate it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

question on protein shakes
Jodi_620 replied to Ellen86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am required to do the liquid Protein I can have the EAS shakes or Adkins. Other things that I can have are. Protein powder mixed with water or hood milk (they recommend unjury or any brand containing whey protein) chicken or Beef broth (1 cup) sugar free Jello (1/2 cup) Crystal Light Carb control yogurt smoothies (no more than on per day) They also recommended Citrocel because the Fiber makes you feel full but I just don't like that stuff... Have something every 2-3 hours as needed to control hunger. -
It wasn't so bad for me, but my nutritionist included things like sugar free pudding, fat free yogurts and cream Soups with chunks strained out in our full liquid plan. They advanced me after one week, but I was so terrified to eat anything I even put off eating yogurt for two whole weeks and ate mostly broth!
