Hello Everyone, As some of us are starting to trend on to "band friendly" foods, we are hopefully tracking our food. If anyone is on My Fitness Pal, we should add each other so that we can help stay connected in good behaviors. Plus we can help share food this way and so on. Just another way for us all to loose together and help each other succeed. My user is fabricwife on My Fitness Pal. Feel free to add me. I would love to stay connected with all the Feb Bansters. Cheers to our Success and faithful loss.

i was just going thru some post and came across yours and the replies. My office has actually told me to get more cardio type exercise. As one post said.......burn more than you take in??????simple math. I have lost 70+or- a pound or 2. I havent really exercised at all. I have loose skin now that i dont think I would have had if I had started working out earlier. Muscle burns off fat. Muscle is also smaller in area. Yea it may not look on the scale like a loss. I f your office cant understand that they need a few more classes in nutrition and excersise . Also most of the Lap Band procedures are followed for ever.Thats part of the package. I assume you had surgery here in US since you go to an office for f/u. You should see a doctor atleast a few times' PA's are okay sometimes maybe better, they will spend more time with you. How often do you get fills?? Does a doctor do that for you?. I have also had the esophageal spams just latelyas a matter of fact. It finnally stopped after a few hours. Not something you want to happen BELIEVE ME!!! So I say jog....walk ...run. What ever makes you feel good.

did you have any complications and what were they?
Megabuck886 replied to birdmadgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was readmitted to hospital 2 days after my initial discharge... Hadn't been able to tolerate liquid meds- caused nausea, vomiting and dry-heaving. On top of all this, I had the worst diarrhea 5 days post-op through day 8... My surgeon thinks it might be a new lactose allergy, so when I'm feeling better i'll test milk out again and see how well I tolerate it. With the meds (Zantac, roxicet), I found that each time after I took them, I would instantly start to dry heave (surprisingly the med actually stayed down each time... Don't know how!), I think it had something to do with the smell/taste... I've always been a gaggy person if I smell or taste something gross, but in this situation I stayed nauseous all day long, unable to get in my liquids so ended up readmitted for dehydration and to sort-out my meds plan. Haven't been able to take anything for pain now except childrens tylenol, and I'm on Prevacid solutab now instead of Zantac- something about chewables go down fine. I also have a PRN order for compazine (anti-nausea med) that is a suppository... A little gross but when you feel like crap and cannot keep anything down it definitely works fast and does the trick (plus I'm a nurse, so it doesn't gross me out too bad). I'm home now, and feeling MUCH better-- able to meet fluids and Protein goals each day, but still cannot do liquid meds (I tried again, and failed again). That being said, I still have some occasional pain but I'm just grinning and bearing it... Another complication, though I bet it's fairly common, is that I became really itchy around my incisions which were all covered with steri-strips. I also developed a warm red rash around them too- kinda bumpy, almost looks like poison ivy. It had been 9 days since surgery, so the clinic nurse had me remove the steri-strips (in case they were causing skin irritation), and apply hydrocortisone cream... While I'm really happy that all the incisions are healing nicely (doesn't look infected, it's definitely an irritation due to the adhesive) nothing has changed so far, so I'm going to call my doctor's office in the morning if it's still not better when I wake up. With all these issues it's been a rough 10 days, but I have yet to regret a thing! I know this was the right decision for me and for my future, and I am so incredibly grateful for all of the support I've received from the message boards-- you all have been so great! -
:-) What kinds of specifics are you looking for? I should have listened when people told me to write down my progress, I never really did...but I will try and wing it. In the summer of 2003 a friend of mine introduced me to WLS. She was talking about bypass, but I told her quickly I wasn't interested. I did research it and I came across lap band. I thought about it and thought about it and researched and researched it and finally told myself now is the time. I am a teacher, and I taught at a year around school at the time and I had three weeks off in the month of October. I knew I couldn't get it done here and be back to work in three weeks, so I went to Dr. Ortiz. I was able to have it done the next week. I started off at 287 lbs..I am 5'7". I wore about a size 24-26 depending on the brand or whatever. I didn't get my first fill until December. I kept on losing and eventually my fill wasn't working. The my Dr. checked me and there was no fill left. He filled me again and had me come back in a month...the fill was gone again. He checked me under flouro and there was a leak. It took about a month and a half or two months before I was able to have it fixed. During that time I was unfilled I never gained any weight, but I didn't lose any either. I had my port replaced in November of 2004 and I've been losing slow and steady ever since. I am about 180ish and I'm wearing some 12's and 14's. I feel wonderful, I am just having a hard time living in my new skin. Sometimes I wonder if I should seek some professional help. When people (who knew me at 287 lbs) tell me how good now, I look I really could just crawl under a rock. But when people I don't know complement me, it's different. I dont know..i just feel uncomfortable. I try to help my husband understand, but he just does not. MEN!?!?!? haha..he's great though. I have never set a goal weight because If I never reached it some people would concider that a failure. Others might just see it as an easy way out or whatever. If I don't lose anouther pound, I feel that I am just as much a success as the person who made it to their goal. I've changed a lot of habits, but one major thing is I won't deprive myself..that's not what I got into this for. :-)

First you decide how much you want to loose? Exercise- do some yoga and go for walk, jogging,do ups amd down bend down so tat it looses fats from stomach. And to flatten your tummy do some strecthin exercise which strectches your stomach so tat u can loose some fats.Everyday you do need to exercise 1hour. Meal- Meal is very important.see that you dont skip your Breakfast, lunch and dinner.Breakfast is very important have something light have fruits and drink milk to get energy in breakfast. In lunch have Chapati with vegetables, dal and have salads after your lunch so that it get digests fast .In dinner you must have somehthin light things. Maintaining Weight While Travel
B-52 replied to losangelesislovely's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Agreed....I stopped eating red meat after being banded, had trouble with it and figured it was a good thing to give up...everyone kept telling me so anyway... So when eating out, that's 1/2 the menu..... Then take away breaded, fried foods....get stuck on those....... Take away breads and doughy things, rice, globby melted cheese products, all those things on my "Do Not Eat" list because of getting stuck, and what's left on a menu?? Very limited...... Now eat off a menu 24/7 for a week, and that is why I always LOOSE weight when traveling... (also, I never stop exercising) -

Any Military Dependants out there????
bugginbri replied to mljalways's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My husband is a cop. He's currently deployed to Kuwait but he's flys into Iraq weekly. He's been gone almost 3 months and we have 3 more months to go. Its been tough mainly because I have three young boys to take care of. Finding time to focus on me is hard. I am still loosing but I have bad days. On the days that I am feeling sorry for myself and lonely I have noticed that I don't eat as well as other days. I know that I am an emotional eater and its tough. I just keep facing forward because I know that when I go to bed that is one more day closer to my husband coming home. -
Hey guys! So I was sleeved May 6th and have undergone several major surgeries and about 16 smaller procedures to correct a leak that occurred 10 days after my initial surgery. That being said I was put out of work for the last 6 months and have now returned to work as of the 7th of this month. I will gladly add that I have been, what I call, foreign object free for about a month. Currently I have lost a total of 156lbs since the date of surgery, and although physically I look good (very few stretch marks, no saggy skin, etc.) I'm having a problem with just daily stamina and exhaustion. My doctor says that along side of the fat loss, I have also lost most of my muscle mass as well. My back will start to hurt after some time being up and active due to lack of core strength, and I need some advice with this. I'm now able to eat soft foods after having been on NPO (no food or drink by mouth) for almost 6 months. So I'm trying to be mindful as to what I'm eating and reminding myself to eat as well. But it doesn't seem to be helping too much. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys!!

New profile, just getting started! Any advice?
PantxaPetita posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I just wanted to introduce myself. I just created my profile and I must say this comunity is sooo great!! I have my first appointment with the surgeon in a couple of weeks! I am excited, confused, happy and freaking out at the same time. I'm not decided 100%, but I just know that I need to loose more than 80 pounds and I can't seem to think about anything else lately. I just hope that by reading your stories I get the motivation I need to go through what all of you have and are going though right now. It feels good knowing I am not alone, even if I have very little support from my family and friends regarding the WLS. I just bought myself the Big Book o Gastric Sleeve, and I am reading everything I can from the forums but if you guys have any advice for a newbie I will appreciate every single word of wisdom! -

Hi all! My surgery date will either be the 20th or the 27th. I am hoping for the 27th since it will tie nicely into my paid holidays at work! I am so very excited. My only regret is that I didn't do this earlier. Until this past summer, I didn't know that my insurance had made the approval process so much easier. You have to have a certain BMI or a slightly lower BMI and 2 health issues like diabetes, pre-diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol etc. No pre-surgery dietician or nutritionist, although my surgeon required 2 appointments and I am glad he did! Another big shock was that my insurance now considers the skin removal as an included surgery since it was the result of the treatment for a disease (obesity). 18 months post op, as long as the weight loss has slowed and can show a steady weight for 3 months, the removal is covered. I have the required cardiologist and pulmonologist appointments for final surgical clearance next week and I do not expect to have an issue. I'm excited and so motivated. I look like my mom, who looks like my great grandmother. Hearty stock I say. My mother had bypass 14 years ago and is still keeping it off and super healthy. She was pre-diabetic, hypertensive, etc at the time and now at 70 she only lakes a multi-vitamin. Ok, well, nice to meet the rest of the December Sleevers!!!

1 month post op today and feeling frusterated!!
BrittneyH replied to Holls06's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with everyone! You are doing amazing! No need to be discouraged. You are doing this for you not for your surgeon! You need to set realist goals and that is more then most people loose upfront. That is really pushing it! You aren't gaining so I think you are doing great! -
My BF has seen me up and down with the scale, so that is not a concern. I hate the squishy skin on my belly and usually need to drape something across there. He does not care at all, but I do. Things were always pretty good in the sex dept, but are are a bit more athletic these days. LOL

The band is basically a tube with a balloon in the center, when you fill the balloon part it makes it tighten down around the stomach. It is made from the same silicone material as breast implants. The band is attatched to a tube, connected to a port. The port is stitched into a layer of muscle type of tissue, and is accessed by poking a needle through your skin, into the port, and adding saline. The saline, goes through the tubing, and into the band, causing it to tighten around the stomach, increasing the restriction of food passing so quickly. Which leaves you feeling full longer. Some people feel enough restriction just getting the band put on, and others require 7 or 8 fills of saline to get to a good point, called the sweet spot. A place where you can eat a small amount, and feel full for several hours. Welcome to LBT!!! Kat

Can anyone offer some help? x
PrettyThick1 replied to rosieposie88's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Quantity doesn't matter to us, quality does and from the list you've described you should have any of this stuff at this stage of the game anyway. What about your Protein? Rice (carbs), rice cakes (carbs), salad (no nutritional value alone, lettuce leaves) all can swell and or go down too large to pass through. Rapid weight loss won't hurt you, but if you aren't getting the proper nutrition your body will eventually respond in kind. You can expect to feel weak, suffer from hair loss, brittle nails, poor skin quality and the elasticity in your skin will also suffer. Until you can adopt better food choices, you should show diligence in taking your Vitamins and supplements. -
New to the sleeve but not WLS
tiffani_burns replied to annie93's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your story is so similar to mine. My band hadn’t slipped it just didn’t work. I gained all of my weight back and then some. My band was removed in Oct 2017. I was sleeved 5/22/18 and the recovery process has been really painful so far. I had a lot of scar tissue that had to be removed. I worry about not loosing but trying to stay positive. -
@acuttita i think there is a conflict with the two (2) statements above between you and your doctor wearing a stomach binder?? ask the dr if that is ok - putting pressure on that area doesn't sound like a good idea to me. might help you feel better - (holding yourself up) but i don't think its good for the incision area. The area needs to "breathe". Doc wants you to wear loose clothing. you will still feel pain, - but that is the healthy way to go - we always should listen to the doc! hope things clear up and you start to feel better good luck kathy

The Tortoise and the Hare
bosslady replied to loseforlife's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you for this post! I needed it this morning. I will be 5 weeks post-op tomorrow and have lost 11 pounds - most of which was the in the first 2 weeks (lost 20 pounds pre-op). I was feeling like maybe this wasn't going to work for me. Of course, that's pretty crazy thinking since I'm only eating 600-900 calories per day! I suppose I should be grateful that I'm losing slowly - seems like it would be better for my 50 year old skin! Thanks for the encouragement! -
Not getting any restriction......
Apples2 replied to Mom Of Twins's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I need to put this in my signature again...I lost 54 b/4 surgery on the six mo.medically supervised diet and the rest after surgery. Took me 11 months which is pretty normal IMO. Skin is good. Not much lower tummy skin, arms are good, no hanging chin. Upper thighs are a little saggy. I have had energy all throughout this process and even had surgery a month ago and popped right back. No hair loss. I have pretty good restriction but have never been too tight. I get all my nutrients EVERY day. I feel wonderful. -
Loosing weight after pregnancy with gastric sleeve
GreenTealael replied to leah_born's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on the safe pregnancy and delivery!!!! The more liquids in you the more breast milk you'll produce, however limiting calories too much may not be the best plan because you will have a very hard time keeping up with life (and a new born) on low energy I've seen a lot of people on social media (Instagram etc) go super hard with their plans being extremely aware/routine and loosing the baby weight. Eating protein , dairy and vegetables Nothing else Safe Journey again ! -
extra skin removal...does everyone have too??
tamra. posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

extra skin removal...does everyone have too??
Catherine55 replied to tamra.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not everyone needs it. My dr. has a 45/45 guideline. .he says that if you are 45 YO or more, or have a BMI of 45 or more, you will very probably need skin to be removed. He told me that I probably would not need it. -
1. With the sleeve you have to always be vigilant for the signs of GERD and act fast, 12 days, months or years down the road. 2. I drink at least 30oz before eating anything in the AM. Is a mixture of water, tea and coffee. Hydration goals are underrated. 3. Kept it a secret. I had very good reasons and still do but people want to know how I did it and I will tell strangers the truth if I think it will help them but say diet modifications to plain old nosey people. I feel deceptive, although technically it's the truth. 4. DRINK WATER. You skin will bounce back quicker. Detruction of brown adipose will happen faster. You will have more energy. Water (pure) is essential. Congratulations and safe journey!
