    insurance

Hi Christine, when I filled out forms with my reasons for getting the band the social and mental health aspects were my main reasons. There were frequent occasions where I didnt go out because i just looked disgusting and I have always had thin Gorgeous friends to compare myself to.This lead me to a mild depression that has followed me since I hit puberty & started getting bigger. if you express to your surgeon how being heavy effects your life it should be reason enough. I really hope your surgeon is as good as mine. Im 4 days post op and lost 2kg and although the first few days were bad i can already feel how good this will be for me. I think people like us just dont have the motivation or commitment for diet and exercise to work so this option makes it alot easier for us. Good luck with everything keep me posted on whether or not you go ahead with it. From Chloe

    Losing hair

Has anyone had this happen?? I am def noticing that I am losing hair and it's freaking me out! I saw my dietician last week and she siad it could be because I am low in iron as Im not eating meat etc. I am off to the doctors on Friday for a blood test to see if that is the reason. Has this happened to any of you?? Does it right itself naturally or did you take protein shakes???????? Help!

    genepro

I highly recommend everyone do their own research and judge for themselves about the claim of 30 grams of protein in one serving of Genepro. The claim is that you get the *equivalent* of 30 grams of protein because of their production process and how much of their protein is absorbed versus whey protein. But definitely read up on it and judge for yourself. Don't just take the claim at face value without doing your research.
  4. I am 5 days post op and 1 thing before i forget, is I want to highly recommend the GENEPRO Protein flavorless. It gives you 30gms protein in one tablespoon, and I add it to clear broth, chicken, and does not change the flavor at all, and really helps to add to your protein intake for the day. I know people also like the Isopure, I think, but that is too much protein at once for me. Just a suggestion
  5. It's not at all unusual for you to start getting hungry right about now so don't worry. Make sure you are getting enough Protein and enough fluids in addition to your mushy meals and see if you can move up your doctor's appointment if you are still pretty hungry. You may find some useful information on my blog atSandi's Banded Living — My Lapband Weight Loss Success Story or you can email me and i'd be glad to share my experience with you and offer any support that I can. You're doing great!

do you weigh or measure your food?

Both. Solid protein, I weigh, and eat between 2-4 oz. Veggies, I measure by volume.
  7. Well since last wed when I was sleeved I've been staying at family house in case I needed help. I have basically run out of protein and ice pops. So the last two days Ive had a small cup (about 1/2 cup ) of sugar free Italian ices. Are they really any different than the ice pops? I know the pops have fewer calories but I needed something. This is the first day since my surgery that I am hungry. Tomorrow I'm going home so I have my shakes and ice pops to have. I hope I didn't screw up
  8. I go in July 18 & I'm feeling almost every emotion at this point I'm happy, excited, anxious, scared, & super nervous! They didn't really give me much of a pre op diet to follow but, I do have to replace 1 meal a day with whey protein isolate shakes which tastes as if it's something you are NOT supposed to drink YUK I mean it's not impossible to drink but, only because I have to I'm not loving it but, I'm quite sure I will love when I start seeing a difference in how I feel and how I look.....
  9. I was so worried about how the holiday season would go and if I could stick to my goals well I knocked it out of the park and lost 16 pounds between Nov 17th and Dec 26!!! I was in the middle of a move and chaos of traveling and visiting family that I did not always get my protein or water in and exercise was not happening. I am now settled in our new house and am back to eatting regulary and getting in my required protien and water daily and getting back to walking. I am proud of the 85 pounds I have lost over the last 8 months can't wait to get the last 30 off!! Here is to a great 2012 I wish you all the best in your journey!!

    No pre surgery diet?

I didn't have a Pre-op diet either. All went well for me. I'm 15 days post-op and am finally feeling better!! What I did instead of a Pre-op diet was try different Protein drinks, shakes, powders. I also stocked up on liquids for the post op phase. Every Dr. Is different as you will see on here. Good luck on your surgery :-)
  11. Just thought I would post these really delicious Protein bars and if anyone else has favourites they recommend please tell us them. I use Protein Bars as a Meal Replacement several times a week if I am on the run or somewhere there is no good food choices to pick from. I only like them if they are really tasty and it satisfies my chocolate craving because they are solid they also keep me feeling full for a long time. My favourite so far is an energy bar called "six star body fuel" that has 15 g of protein. I love the double chocolate chip flavoured one that has a real brownie cake taste. It tastes best when you unwrap it and microwave on high for 10 seconds. It costs about $1.67 at the Real Superstores and at 45 grams it has only 170 calories. My next fave Protein Bar is "PowerBar triple threat", the Chocolate Caramel fusion flavour. It has 225 calories and 10 g of protein and is 53 grams. It sells for about $1.99 each at the Real Superstore. Donna VBG/87 Revised By Dr. Cobourn to Lapband/06 251/164/125 goal

Thanks for the laugh Jack! :biggrin1:
  14. I was wondering when did you start eating raw vegetables. My favorite thing in the whole world is cubed tomato, cucumber, onion, salt pepper and dash of plain yogurt, but I am not sure how long I have to wait... Probably until next local farmers season.. I would chew on anything raw at this point, I am so sick of drinking my meals ( it has been almost 4 weeks - 2 weeks preop and then almost 2 weeks post op... I am losing it in between preparing meals for my toddlers and for my husband.... Ugh, it would be easier if we all could drink Protein shakes and have yell-o for desert... (cue romantic music... I can almost see the whole family skipping and dancing happily on the beach with Protein Shakes in our hands, I don't know, I am just in a desperate need of chewing. Popsicles make me sick and I hate puddings... Roar... Help me Obi-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope....
  15. I was sleeved on the 5 th. 2 wks liquids and 2 wks of puréed. I was great 1st 2 wks. A week ago started feeling yucky. Wed had 2 bags of IV. Food won't ness. Make u feel better. Struggling to Eat

I'm trying to avoid stalls by keeping my calorie and protein intake up. I eat a lot of the same things. I drink about 48 oz a day. I exercise 4-5 times a week cardio. I avoid carbs like the plague. I don't get sick/throw up but eating is such a chore. And I do get nauseous sometimes from the shakes.
  17. Hey all, I had my pre-admission testing this a.m., and then went to Dr. Abkin's office for Pre-Surgery Class. I'm not sure if all Docs have this class, but mine requires attendance. The Nurse Practioner was fabulous! Honestly, I didn't learn anything 'new' that I haven't learned on this board. What I did learn was pretty much a step by step of what I can expect at the hospital, what my specifics are for eating after surgery, what meds to take and hold on 1/30, etc. The best part for me; was definately having the feeling I was so much more educated than anyone else in the room. At the same time, was kind of shocked to think there are so many people out there who elect for this surgery - but don't gain the knowledge. There were minimal questions for the most part (Other than mine). There was one man in the class who, IMHO will fail. Not for lack of eating; but for his lack of awareness and COMPLIANCE. He will certainly not follow bandster rules. Said so himeself. "I don't like soft cheese", "I have to have my caffeine from soda...I don't drink coffee...I don't want to get up and be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m., I don't like dairy products, Can I fly the next day, Can I go in a hot tub, Can I jet ski. Oh yes....I am very serious. THESE were his concerns. Honestly, I'm not trying to have no value in his concerns, as they are his. But seriously man...isn't there anything MORE important you should be asking? About your meds, Protein supplements (of which NO ONE in the class is prepared with!). :omg: I think what it comes down to is this board, and all of you have SO incredibly well educated me going foward...I'm spoiled. :clap2: Anyway, I left the class feeling great. About my decision for the band; which I did doubt here and there - but no longer. I felt great about my new HEALTHY future; especially when the nurse said how HUGE of a difference just 10% of weight loss will affect/improve my recent diabetes diagnosis. And I felt great, knowing that I am going to finally have the tool to help me beat down these beasts of fat, hunger, obesity and illness. Thank you for playing a huge part in my preparation!!! :scared:

    returning back to work

I'm back to work 6 days post op. I make sure I drink my fluids, add flavorless protein to them if I can't get a protein shake down. I'm in a desk job and going back was not a problem AND I thought about good less keeping busy!!

    Sleeved on 12-14

Sorry you had a rough time. It will get better and in time you will so thrilled with how good you feel. I am almost 6 mths out and feel great. I am a little over halfway to my goal. Make sure you get lots of fluids in and the Protein will help you feel better. Takes work, but is so worth it.

    Pre-op Diet

Thank you. Nut told me to try out some different protein shakes for breakfast now. Which proton shakes have you tried pre op? And did you like them after surgery?
  21. I got sleeved on the 16th of May so I am 13 days post op weight I've noticed for the last 5 days I'm able to drink a lot more water at a time before 2 oz took me 30 minutes but I am getting down close to 8 oz in an hour now. I'm sipping it so much I don't even realize how much is going down because I am ALWAYS feeling thirsty for water now. It still takes me an hour to drink 4 oz of protein shake. I also noticed that I am not getting that like full stuffed feeling like I was getting after an oz of anything....I'm scared that I stretched my new stomach with all the water I've been drinking.....should I be worried???

    protein drinks

What I've learned about protein drinks is that it varies widely from person to person. Also people say their taste changes after VSG and the protein drinks they liked before surgery, they hate after. So it's a complete toss up. I'm pre-op and I currently drink Premium from Costco. I hope you find one you like.

    Pre-Op Diet Jitters

I'm right there with you. My sleeve date is May 9th, and I start my liquid diet tomorrow. My surgeon required a trial liquid diet before my first visit with him, so I know that I can do it. I did it once, I can do it again. But this time I am having jitters because this time it is for real. Surgery is at the end of this two week liquid diet, and today I am having a hard time wrapping my head around that tonight is my last real full meal for the next two and a half months. But, we can do this. One day at a time, and the start of a better life is waiting for us just around the corner. On my trial liquid diet I wasn't really hungry, but I wasn't completely satisfied either. The first 3-4 days were the hardest, and I learned quickly to evenly space the liquid Proteins out through the day, otherwise I'd end up feeling light headed and ill if I went too long without. Good luck, you can do this!
  24. I had my surgery on 7/29 so I'm 5 days post-op! I've done pretty well over all but I'm having a hard time getting in all my Water and all my Protein in. It's tough to drink that much without overfilling! Any tips or tricks to get all this in? I've been a little light headed and I definitely don't want to get dehydrated! I hope everyone else is doing great with their surgeries as well????
  25. Have any of you had RNY Surgery in Mexico? I am curious. I am doing some research for my options and my Insurance will not cover RNY. If you have or know some one who has had surgery in Mexico... What was their experience? How much did it cost? How was the follow up care. Would you recommend? Thanks so much in advance for any help you can provide.
