Food Before and After Photos

Love this idea. Why did I never think to do that? I was looking through my camera roll the other day and realized I had zero pics of the way I used to eat. And I wish I did, because the difference now is kinda wild. My “after” plates are just a few bites and I’m done. But back then? It was like... Olympic-level portions. lol Might do a fridge shot soon too. It’s gone from being a snack graveyard to actually looking like someone gives a damn about protein. Appreciate the inspo! -

Slept like a log last night. 6 hours of uninterrupted bliss. Feel like new money this morning. Feeling even better after a mug-and-a-half of good java. The protein shake makes for a great sweetener / creamer. Sliced a couple portabellas and hit 'em with Tobasco while the cast'arn skillet came up to temp..... Whipped 4 eggs into submission and let 'em ride in the skillet. This day is off to a good start.....fueled up and ready to roll. -
Abnormal Post Op Bloodwork Results
Moonbeam510 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I am 4 weeks post op and had bloodwork yesterday. My regular results were normal but my metabolic panel was high in some areas (Bun Creatinine) was really high. I know that has to do with liver and kidneys. I am wondering if it is because I drink mostly no sugar gatorade and bone broth besides Protein shakes and maybe A cup of water a day. My Chart results. Haven’t spoken to Doctor. Has anyone else experienced this ? -
This was both very informative and very kind, thank you! It's good to know that this level of aversion/nausea might also not be normal. As for telling the surgeon, I think you're right. I see this as a failure on my part to follow the instructions, which is making me ashamed to bring up more than necessary. I'm also really telling 5 different people on his team since other people respond, so maybe they don't know the whole picture. So far I've gotten "don't worry about the protein shakes just eat what you can", extra GERD medication for the GERD and trouble drinking, and to do my best. But I really do need to outline everything directly to the surgeon and have my follow up coming up. My dietitian was only assigned pre-op, but I have a request to the insurance to let me talk to her again. I genuinely can't get that much water down, especially at once. Ice water is helping me even get to this much 😞 The PPI was supposed to help but I don't see it helping with the water yet. Electrolyte drinks have fake sugar /: I have POTS and was drinking LMNT daily 😭 The probiotic is a great suggestion, I'll add it! Yeah, with the exercise it's very, very hot outside. I walked 5 min the other day, AC on both sides, cold water in hand, and was still nauseous all day. With the POTS I don't have good temperature regulation and chronic fatigue. I'm doing some light indoor exercise, but yeah that one is tanking very hard. I don't want to sweat out my water or use my little amount of protein to build muscle instead of heal. I was going to start once I could get down more protein but I haven't found a way to do that consistently. Genuinely thank you for reaching out and giving all the suggestions!

When to stop drinking protein shakes?
BlondePatriotInCDA replied to AnV1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still drink them at 17 months post-op - 1 a day. That being said you can give them up at anytime as long as you can get your protein in other ways. I personally find it easier to assure I'm getting my daily protein in by including Fairlife, but I'm still only eating 800 calories a day which makes it difficult getting 80grams of protein so they help. Yes, they're a pain to get and $$. I finally just decided Amazon auto ship subscription works best for me. You can just add protein powder to every thing you eat if you want.. 😁 -
Lost but happened ....now what
summerseeker replied to Counting Carbs's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am so glad you came back in the forum. You have made the big step by admitting your weight gain. It happens. To me you have done great, only 50 pounds on in 13 years means you have been on it. I have seen this advice given to others - You need to prioritise protein, then veggies. Up your water. Try to quell the snacks. Exercise more. You need a calorie deficit. Good luck, you will get lots of help from other members who know more than me. -
So as I mentioned in my last thread, I had VSG in 2014. I did quite well for a decent amount of time but after really losing focus of my diet and lifestyle I have had significant regain. I have literally had GERD my entire life. When my surgeon initially told me that VSG WAS an option, I decided to go ahead with it thinking it was a much 'safer' option than RNY. He did reassure me that the GERD I had was directly related to my significant abdominal weight and that with weight loss it would subside. It DID, and eventually I went from a double strength PPI twice a day to a H2 blocker (at my lowest weight) a few times a week. I thought I was over the moon with this! However, fast forward about 4 years and now my GERD is worse than ever, I literally have productive reflux now. I will be sitting and talking to my husband and what I ate a couple hours ago will just shoot up to my throat without warning (I just read another thread saying this same thing). I get it SO bad when I lay in bed that I will run to the bathroom and literally spit out acid. When I had my VSG I had a hiatal hernia repair too, and I was under the impression that was a permanent fix but i'm thinking maybe not. I have EGD this Thursday and frankly, I am petrified scared of what she will find. I'm not worried about my sleeve but I AM worried that there is irreversible damaged to my esophagus or God forbid, esophageal cancer is found. IF I am found to not have anything significant, I've decided to go ahead with a revision for my longterm health. I have been on PPIs for decades. I want off of them. And I want to conquer the regain.

Is anyone taking the vita fusion gummies
alyce20 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been taking the vitamins I was given preop... Mix with water they taste like tang ... For anyone that remembers tang... I am now 3 weeks post and it is making me gag... It was suggested I mixed it in my protein drink ... Totally gross... I want to go back to my gummies... Vitamin c... B12... Woman's gummy... Coq10....anyone taking these! Alyce -
I know nothing of Herbalife so I am half informed. I know that any gain in this early stage is of benefit. Its tough to drink enough never mind eat our protein quota. I would say - go with what works for you until you can manage something better.

Recently sleeved - with leg cramps
learn2cook replied to Janina__sleevingitallbehind's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I got/get the cramps too. I did talk with docs and dietitian and they suggested magnesium supplements and electrolytes. It solved most issues, but sometimes I still get cramps right after having a simple carb. It will happen even after taking protein in first. Apparently the sugars need more water to process so my body floods the simple carbs out and throws off the electrolytes. So I plan my occasional intake and have a prune and bottle of Fairlife protein milk ready on hand for when the cramping starts. I do also take 400 mg Magnesium Nature Made supplement in the evening regularly . I lived high altitude for a decade and it did happen more often then. My WLS doctor said I have avoided sweets so long now due to wanting to avoid dumping, that I’m super sensitive. I usually use Gatorade Zero powder in my water too. Side note, anyone else interested in researching whether cramping from carbs is more prevalent with diabetes or pre-diabetes? I had an elderly friend who inadvertently died from a cramp. She tried to walk off the cramp, broke her leg, gangrene and blood clots did her in,…it does make me wonder about the simple carb and blood sugar relationship and electrolytes relationship to muscle cramping. -
When did you stop buying new clothes?
PorkChopExpress replied to lussa's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I totally get the dilemma of needing presentable clothes for work events while knowing your size will change dramatically soon. Before my own weight loss journey, I stuck to versatile, forgiving pieces like stretchy trousers and flowy tops to accommodate size changes. For events, I’d often invest in just one or two classic items from affordable stores or clearance racks. It helped me feel polished without breaking the bank. If you’re into bags and accessories, though, they’re a great way to elevate any outfit, regardless of size changes. I’ve always loved browsing product roundups for timeless options like Coach bags and accessories. They make even simple outfits feel more put-together. -

4 protein shakes, and one meal - 4oz chicken 1 cup veggies one cup fruit. bleh. -
Gastric Balloon placed on Oct 24th. Sleep is the only thing saving me mentally right now. I was so good with my preOp diet- and thought I'd be great postOp....nope. Protein shakes- my go to is Protein Premier....and trying Isopure flavored drinks make me feel like barf! Drinking electrolyte water is good, but Gatorade zero is kinda barf to me too. I guess the thickness of those makes it hard on me. So my brain is like, sip some water to get that thickness feeling in my throat away. Mental battle is....I want savory- but bone broth is nasty to me. I want some protein mashed potatoes- so I ordered some from this websites store. Hopefully they are delicious. Headed to my followup tomorrow with my surgeon. Praying I get a clearance for my puree/soft food stage. Pretty excited to see my current weight at 214! I am looking forward to feeling physically up to and not feeling like gaggin' with liquids in my stomach. I look forward to getting back to exercising which will help a lot...especially with my mental health- to get out and feel alive again Whats your suggestions on pureed meat.. I was thinking some of those bariatricpal mash potatoes and puree up some ground turkey with taco seasoning. nom nom...can you tell I'm eggar for the next food stage

Hair loss at 4 months post-op! Ordered collagen pills. Anyone ever take those?

All protein is now gross
Waggy replied to zeskyizblack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found Nurri protein drinks at Costco. Just like chocolate milk, 30 G protein. Good luck! -
I try to get my 'sweet' through protein snacks, which are processed I know but at least I can be sure I get some protein in and I feel like I have had a treat. Considering, apart from my daily yogurt, everything else I eat is either a raw (nuts, fruit, veg) or made from scratch by me I don't mind the Fulfil or MyProtein snack. Shop wise, I allow myself dark chocolate such as Lindt with a flavour like chili or raspberry and I have two squares post dinner when I have it. My boss gave me a box of delicious Belgian chocolates recently so yes I indulged, though did share some. Twice now I have made delicious brownies using dates, yummy and gooey - https://nourishedbynic.com/brownie-protein-bars-nut-free-gluten-free-no-bake/#recipe Couldn't find a seed butter so I adapted and used a spread here that is made out of biscuit (Biscoff) so increases the sugar but by the time I portion it all out there is still not much for the deliciousness it gives (approx 250cal, 25g carb, 10g fat & 10g protein). I try to limit myself to one a day and freeze them.

Food Before and After Photos
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Roasting it! Steaming comes second. Winter squashes (acorn, butternut, spaghetti, pumpkins, etc.) provide a much better flavor if roasted I find. It brings out the flavors and you can serve them so many ways. For sweet I usually do cinnamon and clove with a bit of maple syrup l. For savory I like to do garlic and onion powder, salt, pepper and then the last few minutes broil with some kind of cheese. -
I have been keeping up with this thread and vitamin supplements can easily be confused. I can only tell you what I know. I took advice from my surgeon's team, including the nutritionist. Initially I was told to take 45 of iron, then later to take 18 due to my age and being post-menopause. I was also told that the over the counter medications for the multivitamin may not be enough as the bariatric vitamins. Bariatric vitamins are specifically made for the bariatric patient, so it follows the ASMBS standards usually, but you need to look at the "fine print" and look how many mcg, mg, IU, etc of each of the vitamins are in each of the multi-vitamins. Iron, B12, B50, B1, Calcium etc. should be based on your surgeon's recommendations. I have had the RNY Gastric Bypass 2 weeks ago, and I had options to choose from regarding my vitamins, but I followed what my surgeon's team recommended. At my 1 month appointment I am to bring my vitamins with me for the nutritionist to review, and to ensure that I am taking what I am to be taking. As for what is considered a by pass and what is not....Sleeve is not a bypass, but it is the first part of the SADI. That's all I know because a SADI patient told me this. Otherwise, I don't think it matters. I don't like to get into arguments online. I wish you well as you determine what vitamins that you should be, or not be taking.

I had my sleeve procedure on Jan. 21st, I feel as if I have conquered some areas - cruising along through gas pain, learning how to eat/drink, and my vitamins!!! BUT I notice I have high anxiety regarding my protein intake, my exercise, food variety and my weight loss and feeling hungry an hour or so after meals as well as some constipation/diarrhea. I stress about not getting enough protein when it seems like I am getting enough in protein shakes (at least 2 shakes w/ 25 or 30 grams) and food (20g w/ yogurt), right now I'm only walking but very slow paced with upper body, and now on phase 3 that's leaving me clueless on getting again enough protein and variety where I should be avoiding high fats, sugars, carbs, high cal....I know the stress will surely limit my weight loss... I'm down 24lbs, I feel like I'm sabotaging myself with worrying - any advice/suggestions!

Yes this part is tough, try your best to stick with it, you have done so well. People who havent had this surgery think we have taken the easy option ! Are you allowed to try strained soups. I could have strained chicken noodle soup, consomme, beef tea, milk and pho which was like a taste explosion after all that water. Good luck

Why did you prefer Gastric Sleeve over Gastric Bypass?
Boss Baby replied to HopeBar's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon and I spoke about my other health diagnosis and food habits at length. I was very adamant about wanting to be able to eat a variety of foods after if possible. Since I didn’t have previous GERD issues, and based on my other health and meds requirements, she suggested the sleeve was the best option. I also in my research saw there were just a few less complications with it so I was comfortable with that. -
Sticking to post-op plan working 80 hour weeks?
WendyJane replied to Chrys Kiy's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You should find out what your diet plan is before buying and thinking about food for the post op period. Some have liquids for 11 days then they are on full liquids, then they go to puree foods and then there are others that are on protein only diets before they are checked out by their nutritionists. There are a wide variety of diets, and several people are giving you food choices and advice, I refer you to your team for the post op period of time, it takes a bit of time before you can eat all foods, in smaller amounts. So be careful with other's advice. -
High in protein Pureed food Ideas…
Mama_Bee replied to Mama_Bee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Mmm I want to look into the protein pudding. I also looovee cheese as well and deal with the consequences later as I am lactose intolerant. And that eases my worries when you say everything sounds difficult but its a lot easier when going through it. I have anxiety so im a professional worry wart. I like to be prepared about everything. I also heard that RNY helps anxiety and boy I hope that it works for me! If not I’ll still be okay because after I started hitting my 5k steps a day my anxiety has gotten better! Thank you for taking the time to reply! -
Brand New Here
NeonRaven8919 replied to kellsbells0182's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here! Overweight all my life. The only reason I had the surgery at 35 (5 months ago) was because the NHS here in the UK finally approved me for the surgery. They don't cover Wegovy etc for weight loss so this was my only option. I wish I had started the process of getting approved sooner, but it wasn't until I lost my mother and step-father within a year of each other (my stepfather died at age 62 from pneumonia and liver disease that certainly was aggravated by his extreme weight, and my mother died almost year later age 67 from a perforated bowel that they couldn't repair because of her gastric bypass ten years before). While I knew the risks, I knew I didn't want to go that young so I was going to take my health more seriously. I'm glad I did it and have no regrets.
