  1. as others have touched on above, it depends on what you call a "normal sized meal". can i eat my "normal sized" pre-wls meal from my obesity heyday? hecks no. but, let's be real, those meals were bigger (and not as often-consumed) as the meal sizes of not-obese people. now...can i eat enough food to maintain my current weight, feel satisfied AND not feel like i'm depriving myself? yecks, YEAH. from the outside and to those not in the know, it probably looks like i don't eat enough, but its enough for ME. my restriction is still very much in effect, so i don't eat alot in VOLUME at one sitting. but i did* manage to get my 2300+ calories in by eating often, and choosing higher calorie foods. (NOTE: i exercise ALOT, so my caloric needs are probably higher for your average 5'2" person, but still) *clarification (and to go off on tangent): i WAS able to do this, but lately am not eating as often - for other reasons** - so my average calorie count has been dropping, but i'm working on it.... ** i got braces and my pure HATRED and annoyance of having to clean my teeth after eating ANYTHING has effectively stopped me from eating. it's in my head, i know. i'm working on it....
  2. been on a sugar binge the last couple days. 1) yesterday's afternoon snack: 1 cup of silken tofu with 1 tbsp of maple syrup: 235 cals, ate it all (no dumping effects) 2) yesterday's dinner party's dessert: 64g NY cheesecake with 1 tbsp of salted egg yolk puree: 236 cals for it all, ate about ½ the cake, and all the yolk (dumping effect: fell asleep on couch for 45-60 mins and went to bed early to promptly fall asleep again) 2) todays first food of day (i was lazy AND hungry, ha!): 1 homemade oatmeal cookie my niece made and 1/2 an apple fritter: 265 cals, ate it all (dumping effect: tbd...) mr. always chastises me for eating sugar and asks me why i do it if i know i'll likely be put out of commission...my answer: because its DELICIOUS, and because i CAN (sort of, ha).

    UK Mounjaro friends!

I think it's definitely worth considering. I was going for the sleeve but thought I'd try this first. Been on it 5 months now and lost 20kg. Being in a deficit has helped me eat healthy and I now understand how bad food is! I plan on still having surgery should I plateau at the end of the journey, but I'm seeing how far I can go. My BMI was actually too high for surgery and I've managed to drop down into a BMI so I can now have surgery if I need to.
  4. Yes, and it's annoying as hell like I do not even sometimes want to eat after all the gurgling. I just wanna throw whatever I'm eating against the wall. My gurgling starts as soon as food hits the stomach. It doesn't happen at the end. It's like right when I start eating. 🙄🙄

It’s that time of the month and bloating

During my bariatric journey and I'm only one year postop I have learned that I do not force food in if I'm not hungry. I just don't eat. hunger fluctuates during the month one week I'm ravenous, one week I can eat OK, one week I cannot eat it's just I don't force it, but I think it's different strokes for different folks. I have heard people go back to some Hardy bone broths which are always yummy during those times.

Recipe Needed for Spaghetti Sauce Please.

TBH using fresh tomatoes is over rated. A good quality tin with a spoon of tomato puree works just fine. BUT, if you want to use them, Peel them first. Put in boiling water and then plunge in to cold. The skins will fall off easily.

    Purée Stage

I did not mainly because I wasn’t really hungry. My focus was on hydration and protein intake. I mainly did full liquids/thicker liquids, then I progressed to soft foods at the appropriate time. What is considered puréed on your instructions? It may have been considered soft foods on mine.
  8. My first question is why are you feeling like you need to track your food? I know some people find it helpful, but in your case, it sounds like it's just causing more stress than it's worth?

    800 calories

Love it! This is a very reasonable menu for the day. I like that it relies mostly on real food and supplies a lot of nutrition from veg, fruit, and beans. My dietician would be thrilled with the macros. If you wanted to avoid the protein shake, you could maybe add 3oz of ground turkey to the chili to make up the protein. I'm 10 months post-op and this would be a manageable/very filling amount of food for the day.

    Food Before and After Photos

Popped into the local grocery store yesterday to pick up some yoghurt & on my way to the arctic zone I spied a garlic and Parmesan chicken parcel ready meal. I hesitated but picked it up. Can’t say it didn’t puff well but maybe that’s where the 19g of protein listed on the nutrient panel was. It certainly wasn’t in the almost non existent barely 2 level tablespoons of the creamy garlic Parmesan chicken filling. I have no idea where the chicken actually was either - I saw two or three small shredded pieces. And it tasted unpleasant. I know why I avoid these mass produced processed ready meal foods. The second one is in my fridge though it may be in the bin later today. At least my usual vegetables were yummy.

    Disgusted, Disgruntled, but Determined

From various bariatric groups that I'm in, I hear that the people who regained weight who luckily regained control of their situation, They stated that they shifted their mindset and went back to things that Worked from the beginning. some said they quit night time snacking. Some went back to tracking their food, some stopped over eating, some stopped eating out and went back to cooking their own food and meal prepping, so it looked like they were just getting back to the basics that helped them lose the weight at first. Movement was a big aspect as well. They started back walking Or running.

Helpl 16 years out - regain is REAL

My primary care physician put me on Zepbound before my conversion to Sadie and she said she wanted me on it for life. She says that a metabolic disorder is a chronic disease and I will never be rid of it. Having both is amazing not just for the food noise and the cravings and lowering the appetite but also for the inflammation that we get as we get older and for brain health, it does amazing things for brain health

    Lansoprazole and hunger?

It's definitely the holiday foods too, but I managed to survive Thanksgiving without feeling as hungry. So it could be hunger returning, holiday food and stomach acid going haywire. My stomach is constantly doing something. I just feel like a burp waiting to happen lately. Even with an empty stomach.

I know balancing everything with the cravings and frequent meals isn’t easy, but you’re doing your best, and that’s what matters. We’ll take it step by step with food, and it will all work out. Do you have any go-to meals that help keep you satisfied without overdoing it?

    Food Fatigue?

No issue with flavour (which does sound like it could be related to your medication change) but I feel a bit meh about food. Nothing really excites me. I enjoy cooking but at the same time I can’t be bothered. I do because I know I have to & I’m hungry so I stick to pretty much food on repeat as I don’t have to think when preparing it. Even if a new recipe or a dish I’ve seen looks interesting I can’t be bothered to make it as it seems like too much of a phaff. When I do try something new I feel disappointed by it. It’s ok but not rushing to make it again. Maybe I just need someone to do it all for me! They can plan the meal, do the shopping and cook it. Oh, maybe I need a wife. 🤣🤣🤣 Though I think I just need to shake things up & get out of what is likely just a funk. (Probably as I’m nearing one of those decade ages.)
  16. You really do a have a great attitude towards weight loss and maintenance! That’s half the battle for me. The surgery still makes the body shrink back to manageable size when our tracking and weighing attention comes back. I gain weight every Christmas because the foods only happen at that time and OMG pie… But by New Years my WLS still works great. I find I have to ease back into tracking and water etc. I usually start with drinking water. I had a roommate in college that had ED and would punish herself with being severe suddenly with food restrictions and over exercising. I hope you continue to be kind to yourself. Your honesty has been an absolute inspiration to me!

    Hitting my first stall?

I applaud you for working hard to make ends meet. You can only do so much in your situation, so you may not have a ton of choices, but I too am somewhat concerned about the quality of your diet. Protein shakes are not a bad choice sometimes, but you do seem to be relying on them more than you ideally should. Leaning on shakes so much, I'm specifically concerned about whether or not you're getting enough essential fats in your diet and if you are meeting your basic vitamin and mineral needs. I do hope you're taking a vitamin supplement? I know when things are tight, things like vitamins can be one of the first things to go. If you're not taking a vitamin, I'd encourage you to try to find a way to fit them into the budget since your current diet is so lacking. While a bariatric vitamin would be best, if that's just not in the budget, even a regular drug store vitamin would be better than nothing. An alternative might be to see if you can find meal replacement shakes that fit your budget instead of so many plain protein shakes. My experience is that protein shakes can be more expensive than regular food. I know time is also an issue for you, but If you could find the time on the weekends to meal prep two meals a day instead of one, that might help a lot. Alternately, are there some real food options you could consider for breakfast?

How to intake more protein and cals

may not be a popular answer, but if you are looking for a high protein, high calorie, low density food, chicharron (aka pork rinds or cracklins) was my go to back in the day when i had very low stomach capacity and was trying to stop weight loss. worked like a charm. mind you they are also very high in fat (and depending which brand or how you make them, are also high in soduim) so keep that in mind.

    Petrified

I am about to have my band removed and I am petrified my old way of feeling and thinking about food. Before my band I was preoccupied with food thoughts. I wanted to eat all the time. I was constantly planning what to eat next even when I was eating. I was beating myself up for eating too much. I was sneaking food. I hated myself for lack of will power. With the band I stuck to my eating plan with no problem. Sometimes I would even forget to eat. How has band removal effected other people emotionally and psychologically?

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

Thank you! Yeah, spreading it out does seem to help a bit, or literally 'eating' the meds with something that barely needs chewed, like yogurt or cottage cheese. The three I am supposed to take in the morning are Prilosec, Strattera, and Chantix. Something about those three together is a recipe for ick and I'm not sure why. I wish I could ditch the Chantix but to keep from relapsing into smoking I don't dare yet. I've already slipped up a few times on the smoking; have to really focus on redirecting myself after eating to keep from lighting up while my food settles. I thankfully don't have issues with my chewable vitamins and do space my Calcium out at least three hours from my multi with iron; I mainly need to focus on mindfulness regarding all of my intake. I am glad my relationship with food is getting better though! I don't completely restrict myself from any food but just keep in mind how the food will make me feel. WIN: I'm definitely getting better about noting the difference between brain hunger and physical hunger and reach for a protein before a salty carb to sate cravings!

    January 2025 Surgery Buddies!

Phew - had it Thursday, only a 12 hour wait on the ward (first in , last operated on ). The NHS is clearly still overloaded in the UK, but still , it went well and a hernia was stitched Im told too , so thats good even if I am slower on the recovery now. I was home the next day (another 12 hour wait for my bag of drugs, glad Im an avid reader). I have strange pains in my left wrist which was a surprise - normally alleviated by raising my wrist or a heat pack. Fading today, so CO2 or canula related I guess. I am still on water , coffee, and actimel drinks, will try puree on monday. No hunger - instead a hard belly and only some grumbles in my head when my kids eat crisps beside me. For people to go through it - dont be a fool like me and try and pull 27 stone up into the standing position without going slow and careful . And dont dwell on what happens when you wake up , its not long and its over fast.

    Immune system support

I’ve been in a similar spot where I kept catching colds and felt like I never fully recovered. What helped me most was getting better sleep and cutting out late-night screens, it made a big difference. I also started doing short daily walks and cut back on processed food, and over time I noticed fewer sick days. Lately I’ve been trying out different things to support my immune system, just experimenting with stuff that might help beyond the usual vitamins. I came across a Qi Coil review while looking into energy healing and alternative wellness stuff. It might be worth a look if you’re open to more natural approaches.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

You may have to reduce your caloric intake more. I’ve run into this problem myself. There have been times when I gained up to 20 pounds. I had to eat less regular foods and more protein shakes and protein in general. I’m not quite back to where I was, but I’m trying. Good luck!
  24. For some… cami is hyperemisis syndrome can be problematic as well. Also during your first few weeks… there is a lot of mental health triggering with coming off your food addiction, from conversion to new addictions, hormonal changes, poorly studied effects on gastric motility and canibus mixed with a kinda ridiculously large surgery, and taking what is considered a depressant and appetite stimulant…cannibus is great for many folks and diseases I am sure, but… until we know more of what we are doing….it’s not a great idea. Sorry. For some it may be great, but it’s another bump in the road and we’re not sure about the car during the first few weeks.

I love comfort food when its cold so I want all the soups, stews and chilis. I also bought a Shepherd's Pie tonight for dinner, which I love, so I'm excited for that!
