  1. Going through this right now too going from liquids to mushy food. Its an every day occurrance and I am starting to get concerned. Glad to hear I am not alone.
  2. Hi everyone. Wondering if this is normal or should be cause for concern. I'm 10 days post op and started mushies yesterday. I went from not being able to go number 2 at all to having diarrhea today! I'm not eating anything greasy or harsh really. Nothing off my plan at all. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Is it just my body getting adjusted to everything? Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks.
  3. I had a hard time wrapping my brain around this little sip thing too, and I am only about 6 days post-op but I am drinking out of 1oz medicine cups, finishing them in about 10 minutes..and that has helped me be more mindful of taking little sips. And today while in the car, I didn't have access to my medicine cups and only had my bottle of water and I found myself automatically taking small sips. It's all abotu retraining ourselves.. Maybe that will help for you?

  5. I had my surgery on the 10th and I didn't have one until today when I took a sopository (eeek!) but it worked and made me feel better. It was very small though.

3 days post op SUPER HUNRGY

I had surgery last Tuesday and I am on liquids and I AM FAMISHED!! My doctor allows protein shakes, and they help alittle bit as well as creamy soups.. so if your doctor allows any of that, it could give you some relief. I think this is just the most difficult week so far. I am starved so you're not a lone at all.
  7. Hi friends! So I had my surgery on Tuesday (Yay!) and I haven't had many major issues and I'm probably just paranoid but I just want to make sure what is happening is normal. I'm currently on liquids until this Thursday. The first few days I was not feeling hungry at all but the last three days I constantly am hungry! I "eat" then literally minutes later I start feeling hunger pains. I get a full feeling but then I'm hungry very soon. Is it just because the liquids are filtering thru my band quickly? It's really so aggravating! My second question is about burping! In the beginning I didn't burp much at all. Now after I eat, I burp once usually. And it's normally right around the time I feel the full feeling. I burp once. Is it normal to be burping? My last question. I am normally a side and stomach sleeper. Ive been sleeping on my back since surgery but able to now start laying on my side and stomach with minimal discomfort so I've been trying to lay that way because it's much more comfortable for me. Is it damaging at all to the band to be sleeping on my side or stomach at this point? Any help is very appreciated!! Thank you I'm probably being paranoid but please any help would be appreciated!
  8. Thank you both for your advice! I hope this gets easier soon.

    Two Days post op

I got my surgery on the 10th. The only thing that is going down smoothly with no issue is water and juice. When I drink protein shakes or take my meds it takes a really long time to get thru it. I usually have to get up half way thru swallowing them and walk to make myself burp so I can keep going. It should get better for you as well. It's probably still very swollen around the band, making it difficult for things that are a little bit thicker to pass through. Make sure you're chewing your vitamins really well. That seems to be easing them down for me.
  10. Hey everyone. I am posting from my hospital bed. Surgery was yesterday. Right after surgery I was unable to pass urine so I had a foley catheter put in for the night and taken out this morning. Right after they took it out I was able to pee. Since then theyve discontinued my IV fluids and have been doing bladderscans and I have no urine in my bladder! I've been drinking an ounce of liquid(Water and ice chips) very 15 mins but nothing! I can't be discharged until I am able to go. Did anyone else have this problem post surgery ? I am assuming it's because my liquid intake has been cut pretty significantly and my body is probably hanging on to every last bit of it. The medical staff doesn't seemed to be too concerned but I am. Aside from this issue everything else has been smooth sailing i appreciate any feed back or advice anyone may have. Thanks in advance!

  12. Finally the day I have been waiting for since beginning this whole process in October is less than 24 hours away! I have a whole rush of emotions... nervous, anxious, excited, terrified.. I hope this is all normal. I will be in the hospital until Wednesday, possibly Thursday but I should be out by Wednesday. Good luck to everyone having surgery this week. We are all going to kick some butt!! I just keep reminding myself of how awesome it's going to be a year from now. Here we go!

    Tomorrow is the day!!!!

Good luck to both of you! My doctor is Alan Posner out of Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY. I have actually been on my pre-op diet since March 1st, which was essentially the South Beach Diet Phases 1 & 2 and am down 22 lbs since then. Today is my first full day of just liquids then tomorrow surgery at 8:30! We are all going to do awesome! Let me know how you girls do!!

    Food Question "Pickles"

Pickles ARE on my DO NOT EAT list HOW SAD! I have surgery on the 10th and just got my post-op diet info and I was so sad when I read that. Pickles are the best . Maybe I'll be able to eat them eventually.
  15. Hi! My surgery is the same date as yours! The general consensus on what I've read is that most people are pretty mobile after 5-7 days, but to expect some pretty bad pain with in the 2-4 days after the surgery. I think if you're going to school just for the test, you could possibly do it but I am not sure how well you'll do! I'd have someone lined up to drive you though because chances are it's going to be still too tender for you to drive. I don't think attending school full time again 2 days after the surgery is realistic. My doctor also told me everyone is different but he said expect the first 3 days to feel like you got kicked by the biggest horse you've seen, if that puts it into any kind of perspective for ya. Hopefully we will both wake up on day 2 feeling minimal pain! Let me know how you do surgery buddy!

    Any May 2011 Banders?

Surgery is a week from today for me! Just had my final weigh in and lost a total of 24 lbs! Yay! Starting to get nervous now though. It's finally starting to feel real. Good luck to everyone getting there's this week!
  17. Hey! My timeline went and is going a little like this. Jan 27th I had my seminar.. I started the paperwork in October! Had my first appointment at BGH on March 1st which is with the physical therapist, nurse practitioner, and dietician Had my 2nd appt with the dietician on April 7th Had my surgery consult appointment on April 11th with Dr. Posner At that point everything was in order and I FINALLY got to schedule surgery, which is going to be May 10th! Once the ball started rolling, it went quickly. I didn't really hit any major speed bumps and they were all very shocked with how quickly I could get the whole pre-op process done but it is possible to get it in less than 4 months from the seminar date! They do take their sweet time with calling you so don't be alarmed lol. Good luck!

    Does everyone Throw up?

Noway is throwing up normal. My surgeon told me that if I threw up even once regardless if it was the day after surgery or 10 years after to call him right away because something isn't right!
  20. Hi everyone! Not sure if anyone has had experience with this, but I have my nose pierced. My surgery is scheduled for May 10th (yayy!) and I was wondering what the protocol was with piercings? I have a hoop in it now, but I can put a plastic retainer in it. The hole closes up really really quickly and I would hate to have to get it re-pierced again. Anyone know if the retainer will be allowed or if they'll remove that as well? It would be made totally of plastic. Thanks everyone!
  21. Surgery May 10th!

    Any May 2011 Banders?

I honestly don't know yet. I go on the 3rd to get all of my instructions for surgery. I am assuming if there is any kind of liquid diet I'll find out then. I've been on a pre-op diet since the beginning of March which is basically the South Beach diet and have lost some weight and need to continue on that diet. I know I'll be on Clear liquids the week after surgery. I'm not looking forward to that part. I hope it flies by too! I have so many appointments for pre-op testing, surgery clearance, and final weigh ins with the surgeon that I am sure I'll be kept busy. I am trying not to worry too much. I am just hoping all goes well and it is worth all of my efforts!!
