What should I take with me to the hospital?

You really don't need much. I wished that I had taken a couple of comfortable pillows. The ones at my hospital felt like cardboard. Take some slippers and a bathrobe. They want you to do a lot of walking right after surgery to avoid blood clots. You aren't going to want to do that in just a hospital gown. Take something to keep you occupied..magazines, laptop, book whatever...and don't forget your cell phone charger! Other than that just your toiletries...toothbrush, mouthwash (you'll have a terrible taste in your mouth the first couple weeks), hairbrush, cologne, deodorant etc. and some baggy sweat pants to wear home. Good luck on your surgery and journey!

I wore to the hospital what I wore home. Loose sweats, easy shirt to get on/off & slippers. I was so nervous & scared prior to the procedure that I wouldn't have had the ability to read a book or magazine to save my life. Once I got in my out-patient bay, things started rockin' & rollin. They weighed me, hooked up my IV, asked me a bunch of questions, gave me some happy juice and I don't remember much after that. They woke me up and I was very very groggy. I must have been snoring because the nurse told my husband she thought I had mild sleep apnea. I think it was due to the fact I was under anestesia and it takes a while to work out of your system. I just wanted to sleep. I think I had a popcicle because my mouth was really dry. I honestly don't even remember going out to the car and I slept all the way home. My husband stopped and got my pain medicine on the way home but that was all a blur to me. I didn't really feel like myself until about 9 or 10:00 that night after I had slept it off. Fortunately, my pain was managable. I only took the liquid pain medicine a couple times because I didn't want to be nauseaus. Trust me, throwing up is the last thing you want to do for the first few days because your belly is very tender. Each day got a little better and by day 4 or 5 my pain was minimal. Have a supply of gasX ready. They make one that is a strip that just melts on your tongue and it's a life saver. The gas pain that shows itself in your left shoulder is pretty painful and annoying. I think the gasX really helped along with walking. Very important to get up and walk every few hours even if it's just around your house. A few stairs up and down help too and is encouraged. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
