Dave,
Honestly...the first few days after the surgery, I had a problem getting all of the shakes in...because I wasn't hungry. I did get hungry towards the end of the first two weeks of shakes...so I did start stage 3 a day early. However, once I started the stage 3...I was surprisingly full after meals...even as abbreviated as they were. Even though there is no "fluid" in the band, I think there is still some restriction...due to swelling etc...but I was able to eat anything (within the stage 3 diets) with no problem. Stage 4 was even better...I like my breads, so I experimented with some...I found a 100 calorie "thin sandwich" bread by Arnold that is very good...and I was able to eat sandwiches for lunch...oatmeal for Breakfast instead of eggs all the time...and I have not had a problem.
Now, I have had my first fill (4cc in a 10cc band)...and I have had some problems with doughier foods...muffins, rolls etc...but those thin sandwich breads are calming that craving...and I am still losing weight!
Go for the surgery. You will be very surprised with how you feel afterwards...and rewards are great. I can see my toes without bending over! LOL
