shues138 got a reaction from AC_RN for a blog entry, Mds Appt Yesterday, C25K Start And Skinny Bucket List!
Yesterday I went to my lapband doctor for a fill. Now, I'm an old timer with a 4 cc band, so when I see you guys getting a whole cc in a fill I'm thinking to myself "lucky" before my fill yesterday I had 2.5 ccs in a 4 cc band. Today I now have 2.75 ccs in a 4 cc band. I asked why such small fills, and was told that it will make me keep coming back gotta love doctors lol. But on a good note, since my last doctor's visit I lost 7 pounds and am at 288 lbs. 8 lbs to where I was when I had my gall bladder taken out in September. I feel so good about that. The APRN asked what I did to lose the weight I told her "not put food in my mouth, excercise, and will power because I'm hungry". So for the rest of the day yesterday I was on liquids, had a protein shake and some soup. Today I'm on liquids (so far just coffee--hey it's a liquid!). Tomorrow and Thursday mushies and Friday back to my normal eating.

After the mds appointment I got home, got dressed for the gym and started the c25k program. I'm not going to lie I was out of breath, but from what I hear from other people on this forum that do c25k the next time it gets easier I sure hope so. I told my friend that I wanted to run a 5k next Easter, she told me an inspiring story about how her mom's friend was in a plane crash two years ago; had her legs and one arm amputated; now is being fitted for prosthetics and they want her to do a 5k next year as well. That right there is an inspiring story, mine is so insignificant to that. I will be rooting for her every step of the way.

Today I'm going to the gym to do some weight training on the upper body, nothing crazy. Just want to build some muscle and see if that revs up my metabolism. I mean 7 lbs a month is not bad, but I would like to lose about 10 lbs a month. Also when we go to Key West my dad and I are doing some serious fishing so I want to have some upper body strength to reel in a big one! Oh yeah, just checked my calender 25 days until vacation!

I saw on the forums this morning about a skinny bucket list. I think I have a few I want to jot down, and maybe one day look back and say "yup did them all". Here goes:

    1) Go to Kleinfeld's in NYC to get my wedding dress and not shop from the plus size bridal line
    2) Look proportionate to my friends
    3) Be one of those people who love to run!
    4) When I am a mother, be an active one.
    5) Wear a two piece bikini
    6) Get some sexy lingere, panties, bras etc (I like my stuff to match Lane Bryant does not lol)
    7) Live a long, healthy life
    8) Shop in any store in the mall
    9) Borrow clothes from my friends

Well I guess that's all I can think of today. Hope everyone has a good day and stay positive!

shues138 got a reaction from ready for my journey to be for a blog entry, Weekend Roundup
Ohhhh I was such a bad bandster this weekend I'm not going to even get into it, started with margaritas (4 of them) Friday night and went sort of downhill from there. I realized that I cannot take a vacation from eating right, but I also realize on the weekends I don't eat like I normally do (three meals a day 5 hours apart) and that's where the trouble starts.

New goal for this weekend: FREAKING EAT MAN!

Saturday was quite busy. I went to my local day spa and got my first Brazilian, not for anything special but because it was time for Andrea to put her big girl pants on and stop cutting myself in my lady bits, and it does not hurt! Everyone told me it was the most painful thing, oh come on, getting my eyebrows waxed hurt!

After that I went to Aldi's, which I used to not shop at because I only liked high quality foods (ie Trader Joe's Whole Foods) now to be honest with you I don't give a crap what I eat in regards to the quality, I'm so not into food anymore. I just make sure it's dense protein and my daily calories are around 1000/day and 60-80 grams protein/day. For two weeks worth of groceries, I only spent 57 bucks at Aldi's (which is dirt cheap in Connecticut) after that I went to Big Y and got my cat food, and whatever I couldn't find at Aldi's for another 40 bucks worth, so I have to say for grocery shopping for two weeks of food for me and my cat under 100 bucks is awesome!

On the way to my dbf house, I forgot to get a V-day gift, so I stopped at Gamestop to pick up a gift card, well while walking to the store (this is what I get for parking so far away) my bra strap breaks! So I have to walk in there with one perky boob and one droopy boob and I'm just like "hurry up, I got to get a bra!" so I go next door to Dots (which is like a hoochie mama clothing store, honestly though I buy clothes from there that aren't hoochie mama, but you know) and get a bra, which the boyfriend loved, and I'm like "this is not sexy this is out of necessity lol". What a day

That night dbf and I went for sushi for a belated V-day dinner, I was so worried that I was going to get sushi stuck, but alas I did not (I really don't want to eat sushi, I love it so much, that I want to be restricted enough just to eat sashimi because I could eat those darn rolls all day!). At the restaurant they had this crab salad that I devoured and I think that was the most I ate, also shrimp tempura ::hides:: I'm hoping by my next fill I will only be able to eat sashimi, fingers crossed!

Sunday morning, dbf brought breakfast in bed, mmmm those eggs were salty lol. Didn't finish eating those. Went home later, and made my dinner for the week (beefy tortilla soup with an extra can of kidney beans for protein) in my crock pot. Then I was so un motivated from cooking that I had a lean cuisine for dinner ::hides again::

I also tried to figure out what a 4 mile run would be from my house to wherever (my previous post, if you didn't read, was my goal to run a 5k next year) my friend who runs them told me once I get the endurance to run 4 miles since it's a little more than a 5k, so the 5k will be easy. So I drove two miles and holy crap that's a long distance, but I'm going to do it!!!!

OH OH OH! One more thing, I bought two big things of plain Chobani yogurt and a ton of mix ins, so today's Chobani flavor goes as such: 1 cup of 0% Chobani with 1 T sugar free white chocolate instant pudding mix 1 T Torani white chocolate syrup (sugar free duh) and 1 T sugar free rasberry preserves.....YUM!

Tomorrow I'm going to mix in Coconut Torani and some canned pineapple for a pina colada. Sounds good, no?

Well time to get to work, thanks so much for reading, everyone stay motivated, and if you had a bad weekend like me, remember today is a new day, be accountable, get moving and DON'T GIVE UP!

    XOXO,

shues138 got a reaction from Caribear for a blog entry, Happy Valentine's Day And A Nsv Right Now!
Want to wish everyone a great valentine's day, if you don't have a valentine, I'll be yours, I have love to give to everyone!

I wasn't going to write today, because I didn't really have anything to write about. Then the caffeine hit me and I had a total NSV!!!!

So, in case you didn't know I'm going to Key West in oh let me check my calender....39 days. Usually, all I can think about for a vacation is what I'm going to eat, what the food is like, etc.

Not so much this time!!! First I decided in March I'm going to try the couch to 5k program (if anyone wants to be my buddy for this let me know!). I'm also going to start working on weight training for my upper body since my dad and I will be going out deep sea fishing while in Key West. Gotta get jacked to reel in the big one (I hope I do!!!).

So then instead of thinking of food, I was thinking about "how am I going to work out on vacation" well my parents must have read my mind because my mom sent me an e-mail asking if they wanted to pack my bike in their RV (they are driving from New York state to Key West in their RV, I'm flying). UM, YEAH ABSOLUTELY! The RV resort where we are staying is at Mile Marker 15 on the Keys, so I'm thinking that in the am, I can ride my bike to at least Mile Marker 10 and back, maybe more, who knows. Can you even ride a bicycle on US 1? If anyone knows let me know thank you.

So I have to consider this a NSV when I'm usually thinking about "oh what restaurants are we going to go to" or "what am I going to cook while we're on vacation" I'm more concerned about how I'm going to work out.

So proud of my self ::hugs::

    Have a great day!

shues138 got a reaction from Bremartus for a blog entry, Back On The Wagon
This weekend was a disaster food wise. But, today is a new day, and I'm just going to get back on the wagon and deal with it. I made the HUGE mistake of weighing myself on Monday and I gained six pounds. Then I realized it's my TOM this week, and I usually gain about 5 pounds from that. But still I'm just annoyed because the old me is still there in my head where I just want to eat everything over and over. I want to be able to enjoy times like these (ie Superbowl Sunday) with my friends, but I think at this point, for this year, any event that involves food I'm just going to have to stay away from until I beat this love I have with food.

Anyway, I'm back at work, back to eating healthy again and back to the gym, I'm not giving up!!!!

shues138 got a reaction from journey4me for a blog entry, Just Feeling Blah!
Nothing much to report back on solids again, had a chobani for b/fast with some granola (1 T) and yogurt covered raisins (1 T), was feeling fine until an hour before I could eat again and my stomach is growling, I know that's not "real" hunger but it's annoying.

Wooo talking about "real" hunger, um let's see what have I learned this week: headaches and fatigue for me = hunger. On Tuesday, I had a huge headache, I was still on liquids per mds orders so I thought "well maybe I'm hungry" made myself a protein shake and sure enough voila! Problem solved!

Yesterday, I was so tired that I ordered a cup of coffee (something I don't usually do after 4pm) and a packet of veggie cream cheese (since I was still on mushies) at D & D and I don't know if it was the coffee or the cream cheese, but once I got home, I was ready to go kick some @$$ at the gym!

So, I think I figured when my stomach is growling, that's just my body being pissed off. When I have headaches or am about to fall asleep standing up, that's hunger.

Also I ordered a Keurig for my office, I really do think I need a pep in my step in the afternoon. It's 1:30pm here and I'm yawning!

Have a good weekend! I'll be back on Monday!!!

shues138 reacted to zil for a blog entry, Wls Bashers / Walk A Mile In My Shoes...and Then See What You Think Or Why I Had Wls
I have heard the same harsh comments as many people have...just cut back, exercise, diet, drink more water, eat more veggies...you name it, and I have probably heard it.

I didn't choose to be overweight, it just seemed to creep up on me slowly and before I knew it, I weighed 300 pounds...from having kids, from not being active, from being a good cook, from marrying into an Italian family.

I had WLS after my husband said to me that he was concerned about me and my health, and that he wanted me to be around so we could enjoy retirement together. He didn't want me to sleep all day and not be able to go for a walk, and mostly he could see how I was depressed from my weight. He is my biggest supporter, and he didn't care how much it would cost, just "get it done".

So, after years of yoyo dieting, trying every fad diet in the land, I was banded and I have to say it is the best money I have ever spent. I do not regret it for one moment because you see, I am a food-aholic...just like an alcoholic, but with food. I was not able to help myself.

Now, I have learned healthy eating habits and choose the foods that appeal to me. I no longer crave the chips, chocolates, ice cream, cake, cookies, popcorn that used to rule my life. Now when I get a hankering for something to eat, my thoughts turn to protein, veggies and fruit. But I know this would not have been possible without my band. My band is a reminder to me each and every day of the new me, and I am going to be on this wonderful journey forever.

So, when someone gives you a bunch of grief because you have decided or did have WLS, tell them to walk a mile in your shoes, and tell them to be sure to climb those stairs 2 or 3 times a day, and then tell them it is not a crime to want something better for yourself, to want to be around to see your kids or grand kids get married, to see them graduate. My bi-weekly trips to my dr's office are fantastic. I get excited to get on the scale and see that it has moved backwards, closer to a new me. The dr is proud of me too, and I can tell you, that goes a long way in my book of "good feelings".

So if you are contemplating WLS, I say B-R-A-V-O. YOU GO AN 'GET'ER DONE'. You will probably find the road a little bumpy at times, but so worth it.

    I LOVE MY BAND

Banded 8/19/2011, starting weight, 299, weight loss to date 76#s, and another 65 to go...hoping to make it by 11/1/2012. Oh, BTW, it did take me 5 months to get into the green zone and that was with fills every 2 weeks.

shues138 got a reaction from Caribear for a blog entry, Be My Valentine Challenge
So today is the official start day of the "Be My Valentine Challenge" looking forward to it, my goal is to lose ten pounds by the end of February, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

So glad to be eating mushies today, was on liquids all day yesterday and it was no fun! On top of that I worked overtime, and I did not give up on the gym, and why is it when I'm at the gym there are a ton of food commercials on? Really????

This morning I was up at 3am, I've been doing that every night, I wish it would stop because it makes me so tired in the afternoon!

Well time to get my day started, have a sick cat at home (Buddy), or he could be faking it, I don't know. All I want to do is get my day over get home and make sure he's okay, I'm such an animal lover. All he did was cough a little this morning and I freaked out, almost called the vet at 6am! But I'm just going to monitor how he's doing because he's eating and drinking, going to the bathroom, and is not hiding or acting depressed. I think he did it for attention (the coughing) to get me out of bed so he could eat!!!

Yes, I am the cat lady (just kidding!)

    Have a wonderful day!!!!

shues138 reacted to SumthinsGottaGive for a blog entry, Top 10 Things I've Learned So Far...
I was thinking today about what I've learned so far on this journey. Shockingly, it was a great deal. Here are the top 10:

    10. Know yourself. There is a ton of advice all over the net and in our own circles.. but we have to be wise enough to know how to "eat the meat and throw away the bones." Not everything that others do will work for you. We've invested in our bodies and now we have to make sure we get a ROI (return on investment)!! Don't sabotage yourself by trying to stick with the regimen of someone else. If you're not sure, speak with your doctor or nutritionist/fitness expert. Your medical team created a plan specifically for YOU! So while it's always good to get ideas and advice, we have to make sure we are first and foremost doing what is best for us.

    9. Goals. Look to the future always. Don't get complacent w/the amount of weight you've lost or frustrated with the amount of weight you haven't lost..but always keep reaching for your goal. Set small goals in the interim and reward yourself. We're busting our asses and deserve to be kind and sweet to ourselves every now and then.

    8. Excuses, excuses! While we are our worst critics, we also tend to go easy on ourselves at the least opportune times. "I've been working hard..I deserve that slab of chocolate cake." "The kids wore me out, and now I can't exercise." Don't get me wrong, I think we all need a break and need to reward ourselves every once in a while..just be careful not to let it snowball. I made this decision because I needed a lifestyle change.. not to continue to give myself "outs."

    7. Positivity. Stress causes the secretion of Cortisol.. which leads to weight gain in many people. Thinking positive and generally finding the good in your situations creates what I like to call, "Happy Juice." Aka: Endorphins! Also created when you work out! Endorphins crush Cortisol and can result in weight loss! So stay positive and encouraged..even if that doesn't cause you to lose weight, you'll be a happier person!

    6. Kindness. Be kind to yourself. I have a very swift tongue and can cut someone down like a hot knife through butter... unfortunately, I can do the same thing to myself just as easily. Remember it takes time to see results..but if we keep placing one foot in front of the other and keep pushing we'll all get to where we want to be.

    5. Do something! Move your feet and your ass will follow!! Everyone works at their own pace. They lose weight at their own pace and that's OK. If you want to see results (possibly faster) and reduce your risk of other complications that come along w/being overweight, get moving!! Even if it's 30mins a day..some of us spend more time than that on the phone, watching a movie, talking to a friend, reading a book.. etc. The good thing about those activities is they can all be done in conjunction w/exercise.

    4. No Magic Bullet. This band is not a "fix all" ..after you get banded you will still have taste buds that crave certain foods.. you will still be a jerk or a prima donna..or a sweetheart.. you'll still have money problems if you had them before.. you'll still have personal life issues to deal with. The world doesn't stop just because we've gotten banded. As we're taking the steps to lose the weight, we must take the steps to improve ourselves to be more well-rounded and level people. Don't neglect the rest of your life..the band, while pivotal, is only a small portion of it!

    3. Support. Surround yourself with like-minded people, with common goals..not just for the band, but for life. This is such a life altering experience and you find yourself not only wanting to do better health-wise, but improve all the aspects of it. Make sure you have people in your life that will add to it, and not deduct from it.

    2. Keep it simple stupid! Don't major in the minors!! The band is hard...but it's not complicated. Follow the rules and listen to your body (the good stuff) and you will succeed. Don't make the band something it's not or try to complicate it. It's a simple tool.. work it and it works!!

    1. Prepare to wait! Patience is KEY in losing weight this way. As the saying goes, "We didn't put this weight on overnight.. we won't lose it overnight."

I'm learning a ton about myself..but the most important thing I'm really starting to grasp is that I'm worth it!! =)

shues138 got a reaction from ready for my journey to be for a blog entry, Weekend Is Over :(
Had a great weekend, including Friday. Friday I tried to not write down what I ate and just concentrated on how much I was eating, and to be honest I had a really hard time with it. It's definetly mind over matter which sucks and I'm hoping I can work on that eventually.

Anyway, Friday night went to the dbf house for dinner, he ordered Chinese, I had crabmeat rangoon and a small thing of pork fried rice and that filled me up. Saturday I was cleaning like crazy all day, I had eggbeaters with cheese and some sausage in the morning, a chobani with some granola and yogurt raisins for lunch and had corned beef, cabbage and carrots for dinner (corned beef is disgusting! Never tried it before, not my favorite cut of meat, dbf loved it!).

On Sunday my parents called me early in the morning and wanted to meet up in Newburgh, NY for brunch (Newburgh is halfway between the two of us, they live in NY I live in CT). So much fun I don't know why we didn't think of doing this sooner. It's an inconvenience for me to drive 3 hours back and forth, and I usually have to take a half day off on Friday, this worked out perfect. I had a mushroom and cheese omlette some hashbrowns and rye toast, and that's all I ate for the day, except for a handful of trail mix.

Today I'm back at work, I'm hoping the week goes by quick, I took next Monday off, to recover from Super Bowl (go pats!). I have an appointment at my surgeon today at 4pm, I'm nervous to see how much I lose/don't lose in the past two weeks, my last appointment was on January 16th and I was down 21 pounds from my weight on my surgery date. I'm hoping they bump me up to 2 ccs in my band and see if that helps, if not it's only 4 weeks and I go back again for another fill. NOT GIVING UP THIS TIME!

This morning after I got out of the shower, I wrapped the towel around me, usually it comes undone the minute I move, oh, anywhere, but it stayed around me until I had to get ready, I guess this is some sort of a nsv (if it is than yay!!!)

Which got me thinking about goals. Also it got me thinking about how oblivious men are. Before Christmas, my co-worker was telling me about these rings that she gave her son's girlfriend for Christmas, they're called stackable expressions (google it!) so I tell my boyfriend about them (and not for nothing they are not that expensive!) for a Christmas idea and sure enough, guess what I don't get?? But he did give me a nice necklace.

Okay back to goals, so I've decided that with every ten pounds I lose I'm going to get one ring. Of course I'm not going to buy them every time I lose ten pounds, but for example, when I lose 50 I'll go to the jewelers and pick out five, cannot wait!

If I look at another shrimp again I'm going to be sick. I'm all shrimped out and that is one of my favorite foods, oh well they always have it at the grocery store. Next week I'm getting a fill and the mds requirements are two days of liquids two days of mushies and then solids by Friday, I totally forgot about this, so I guess I'm going to have to freeze the meatballs I made last night and also the corned beef and cabbage I'm making this weekend, but hey it's always good to have meals on hand!

Last night I went to the gym for 45 minutes on the elliptical. I like love to listen to music while working out, I have the iheartradio app on my phone, and I put it on to the spin cycle station, which is great club music and NO COMMERCIALS it keeps me motivated enough that I don't even realize that my time is almost up.

By the time I got home I was too tired to pack a breakfast and lunch for work tomorrow, so I had to resort to the cafeteria here, which is okay. I had a veggie egg white omlette with a little cheese it definetly filled me up.

I've realized I cannot be so obsessed about how many calories/protein I consume a day. If I eat something and I'm full, then I'm full. I'm going to try that for the next couple of weeks and see how that goes. Can't give up on my chobani though!

    Have a good day!

  15. Like
shues138 got a reaction from LosingitinVT for a blog entry, Nsv (Kind Of I Guess?) Also Goals, Food, Etc....
