Did you really lose 121 pounds in 7weeks? I started at 285 and thought I was good losing 40 pounds...feeling like a failure now ☹️

Wait. Where does it say that I lost that much. Those may be stats from when I had my lap band years ago. I’ve since had it removed. I’ve lost 30.

  2. Hi all. I haven’t been on here in forever. I developed severe complications after having my lap band for nearly 8 years. I had it removed 2 weeks ago yesterday and am already up 16.2 pounds since removal. I was 138 the morning of surgery and now am sitting at 155. I feel completely lost and discouraged because I have eaten small portions of quality foods since removal and it seems to not be getting better. Anyone been where I am and have any positive advice? I really need friends right now because I don’t have anyone that understands what I’m going through.

  3. I went to my new doc yesterday and it made me feel very renewed. Sometimes you just don't click with people. Whether that's your doctor, boss, coworkers, relatives, etc. I may have been extremely high maintenance to my former doctor, who knows. My patient file reads that he saw me as doing great until this past visit. All in all, he wasn't encouraging or friendly to me in any of the visits I've had with him (and I'd been seeing him for 5 years). His nurses were very encouraging and friendly, and honestly, that's why I kept coming.

Water under the bridge now, I suppose! I have a list of support group meetings I can attend and I've already set up an appointment with their dietician for two weeks. I am already feeling more positivity about my band and that's all I really wanted. Thanks for your input and support, guys! I appreciate all opinions.

  4. I have already requested my medical files from my doc's office and have set up an appointment at another surgeon's office in two weeks to be a transfer patient. I'm going to move on from that awful, awful experience this morning! Thank you all for your kind words!

  5. Well, I have only gained 35 pounds according to my doc. Our interaction became very heated. He told me I need psychiatric help to work through my eating disorder and that a fill won't help me. He kept saying I had gained a MASSIVE amount of weight. He was quite factual but used absolutely no softening words to speak to me. As I sobbed, I told him he was berating me. It was then that he became noticeably irritated. He said that I was rude for saying that to him and he would "release" (fire) me as a patient if I kept speaking to HIM that way. He told me he was gonna leave the room to see another patient so that I could think about what I'd said. Like a scolded child. I then sat and cried and decided I needed to suck up my tears because I came to him for a fill and I wasn't leaving until I got one. Even though he'd already said a fill would do me no good at this point because I was obviously just eating terrible foods and being lazy, I beg to differ. Can we all just take the time to talk about how he removed my Fluid 6 months ago due to complications, I found out I was pregnant and then miscarried. I have gained 35 pounds but it's extremely emotional to experience a miscarriage. The session ended with him adding fluid and telling me since I had a Tummy Tuck that if I gain weight, I'm gonna look like I swallowed a basketball and I'd look silly. Very last words before he left the room. Now I'm supposed to have a follow up in two weeks. Am I crazy? This dude is an a*****e, right? Are any of your doctors like this?

  6. Hi! I'm Stephanie. I originally posted in the wrong section, so forgive me.

I have been banded for 5 years! I have been noted as being one of the success stories for my area. I lost a total of 137 pounds with hard work and then assistance of my band!

After losing the weight, I had 10 pounds of excess skin removed and I was ready to move on with my life! My surgeon that removed the skin told me that in some band patients, as the swelling from my skin removal subsided, my band could potentially tighten. Did it ever! I got down to 147 pounds and eventually had trouble drinking Water (all of a sudden one morning). I went and talked with my lap band doc and he decided to take all of my Fluid out. He scheduled an upper GI and I was unable to have my X-ray done because I found that I was pregnant. I told myself, "you know what to do, so just take care of you and baby." To my dismay, I miscarried at about 10 weeks. Since then, I emotionally ate because I was sad. One morning, I looked in the mirror (after gaining 36 pounds) and realized, "this is how you got as big as you were, get it together." So, I started working with a nutritionist and a trainer 3 months ago. In that time, despite my hard work, I have only managed to lose 4 pounds. Weightloss is good, though! I was tired all of the time and never had energy. I am also hypothyroid diagnosed. I met with an endocrinologist at the beginning of the week to have a complete blood panel and talk about my struggles. He told me with a smirk that patients with hypothyroid only can be purely successful with the assistance of WLS. Then proceeds to tell me that my surgeon no longer offers banding. That my doctor saw that the failure rate was far too high. He's strictly sleeve and bypass now. I suggests converting my band to sleeve since I ran into so many complications.

So, I contacted my band surgeon's office to tell all of this to. An upper GI has been ordered and I have an appointment with my band doctor next week. I was told he only converts band patients to sleeve if they meet certain requirements. What I'm wondering now is if I actually weigh enough to qualify.

Has anyone else gone through any of these struggles or have similar personal experiences? I know that I'll officially know next week during my doctor's visit if I qualify but I worry and stress over things like this ahead of time. Any kind words, similar stories or advice would be much obliged. I'm feeling like a failure at this point and need some friends.

  7. I also lost my father very suddenly 5 years ago. His death is what motivated me to have surgery. Coping with death of a close loved one is never easy. Just take it one day at a time. He's watching over you and will see your success.

    Much love.

  9. Hello fellow banders! I hope you are all doing well!

I would like to start off by saying that I've lost a total of 103 lbs so far since my banding! Wahoo! My doctor tells me he'd still like for me to lose around 37 more pounds before I maintain my weight but I have a question for you all:

How many calories should I be taking in? I exercise 4-5 times per week and I use the MyFitnessPal app on my phone (and website). I know that our bodies are different than other people now that we've made our life changes but I'm curious as to how many cals I should try to hit. I'm striving to try to get the last bit of this weight off before fall and I just want to make sure I'm eating like I should to stay healthy.

Tips and advice are very much welcome! Thanks for reading!

  10. So, I've noticed that the flex points that they give me every week leads me to get too carried away. I've been on the plan for roughly two months now and have lost 6 pounds. All weight loss is good weight loss. BUT! I feel like the extra points every week kinda make me go nuts when it comes to what I eat. So, I've made a conscious decision to just cut out the extra splurges until I get a better feel for my plan and get at least below 200! So, just keeping you guys updated and motivational words are ALWAYS welcome!

  11. Hey guys! I, too, recently re-joined Weight Watchers after seeing this thread! I have lost right at 60lbs and stalled completely out. I started a week ago and have had to adjust to taking in more food than before. But I've noticed since starting, I feel SO much better! I feel like my energy sustains better throughout the day and my stamina is much more consistent when I'm working out. I called my WLS doctor and talked to his nurse about my change. She said she did something similar (she's banded, too) to break through plateau. She says it's a really good way to make sure you're taking in healthy and smart foods. She was worried about how many points they've given me per day. The first three days, I realllllllyyyy struggled trying to get in all of my points but now I think I've gotten it under control. My weigh-in day is tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes! I'm not investing too much faith in the scale since I know this week, my band and body will be adjusting to these changes. Just thought I'd share. Any other suggestions you guys would like to add, feel free!

    Wish me luck!

  12. Hi all. I was banded in November and have since then lost right at 60 lbs. With that being said, I have now been at the same weight for three weeks and the scale doesn't seem to wanna move. My nutritionist put me on a diet of 1265 calories per day and I was wondering if maybe I need to eat more? I'm honestly not sure what to do at this point. I'm exercising 5 days a week and always making smart food choices and not sure where I'm going wrong! Anyone with some advice that could be helpful would be great.

    Thanks!

  13. Hey all! Since I was banded in November, I've lost 32 pounds! Yay!

Even though that's means to shout and Celebrate, the real reason I'm posting is a question about calories. I just wanted an opinion from you guys. Most of us know how many calories we need to intake per day in order to lose weight. Well, does it vary between patients? Some people say they steadily lose weight and eat about 800 calories per day. Some people say 1,000. Some 1,200. Do you guys think that it just varies with different people as to how many calories we should intake with the band in order to lose weight? I just remember being on WW and the leader telling me that my weightloss stall happened because I wasn't taking in enough calories per day. I think this has happened again because I haven't lost any weight in nearly two weeks. I've probably answered my own question about just raising my caloric intake to more than 800 but I just wanted an extra opinion. Sometimes, that helps!

    Thanks!

  14. I ate quite a few things I shouldn't have on Christmas (even though I told myself I would only eat the healthy sides I brought), and I have been suffering ever since! I've spent so much time in the bathroom paying for every unhealthy thing I consumed! I was so mad at myself after all my hard work! I'm back on track now, I'm just hoping that my body will be ready to drop some more pounds soon!
