You ever got food stuck in the passage way?
My mother in law was banded over 3 years ago and has had a stuck episode several times, basically from breads or pasta, sometimes meat. She can either drink water and it will pass or go to the bathroom and cough it up. She has always been able to breathe.

September Bandsters!
Hi  I was banded 9/22. Surgery went great with really no gas pain afterwards. I had a sore abdomen mostly and pain in my incisions, but minimal. Hunger pains hit me yesterday afternoon, but I made it through. I need to get my Protein shakes in, I know that would help greatly! Congrats to everyone on their new band or upcoming surgery! :crying:

Gave pre0op a try with terrible result
The higher % of Protein the longer you will fill full. GNC 100% whey Protein has over 20g per shake. They are great and easy on the wallet. sugar free Jello and Sugar Free puddings are great Snacks. I am on day 10 of the liquid diet and my surgery is in 4 days. The first few days were HORRIBLE! I cried, I was mad I couldn't eat. Now, it is so easy and I am down 9 lbs. You can DO this!! This diet isn't for just your surgery, but it prepares you for when your banded. If you need extra motivation, send me a message at any time! Best of luck!

Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
Brian, I'm with ya; I too have incorporated some light soups to replace the sweetness of the shakes. Healthy Choice and Progresso have some fabulous low cal/fat/sodium choices that I've used. GNC has a delicious 100% Whey Protein Banana Cream shake mix that is yummy and I think so much better than Chocolate. :alien:

Gained 3 pounds on pre-op diet
I'm sure you haven't gained if you've cut your caloric intake and have been exercising. It's probably just water. Don't get your spirits down.

$200+ consultation fee w/ insurance?
My Physician's office has a program fee of $1,000; insurance or self-pay. Half is due by your 2nd appointment, the last half due on your Physician Consult right before surgery.

Help
To be successful your going to have to make the decisions to eat healthy and monitor portion control. Drink water when hungry, exercise, walk. WLS is a tool, not a miracle.

WLS article in my local paper today...
This is in NO way an easy way out. We still have to work at making healthy choices, eating correctly and exercising. I've not told alot of people, for that reason. We do this for us, to be healthy and ultimately, loose weight. Good luck.

Liquid Diet Struggle
I am going into day 7 of liquids only and it has gotten a LOT easier. Hang in there!

Question about what to do before meeting with surgeon...
I would go to your first appointment and from there, they will tell you what appointments are needed. They have certain physicians they work with and often schedule for that person. Sometimes trying to personally speed up the process only slows it down in the end.

How long is the lap band process?
It really depends on your insurance requirements, physician requirements and if your required to loose a % of weight for surgery. I've seen it vary from 6 weeks - 1 year.

Seeing the Doc in the morning!
Welcome to the journey! Looking forward to seeing how your appointment goes. Ask away here if you have any questions.

Psych Evaluation
My evaluation was a breeze. It lasted about 30-45 minutes. He gave me 2 short multiple-choice tests and then discussed the questions and answers afterwards. He also went over the WLS in general what to expect, if I understood it and the decision I was making and if I was prepared for the life change that comes hand in hand with the band. I also got to look at the ink blot pictures and tell what I saw The psychologist my physician office uses is in house; so it was covered. If you have questions, your billing person or insurance rep can verify your benefits.

Gallbladder remove before lap band surgery
My Dr is removing my Gallbladder in the same surgery. He is removing it first. Sure, there have been cases of contamination and banding will be postponed, but he said that rarely happens. Good luck to you, I definitely understand your concerns of being put to sleep twice so close together. Keep us updated.

BCBS of Ga
Hi. I have BCBSGA. They require a Nutrition Evaluation, a BMI of 35 with 1 co-morbidity or a BMI of 40+. My Dr's office submitted for approval on 8/17 and I was approved 9/1; my surgery is 9/22. They don't require a supervised diet or any % of weightloss; but your specific doctor might. I would call BCBSGA to verify your specific plan has bariatric benefits. [They can email you thier gastric policy, which lists their requirements for surgery in detail] Good Luck!

Three Day Pre Op diet question
Hi. I am currently on the pre-op as well and I am to have protein shakes (4 per day) along with a choice of 6 servings of out of various sugar-free jello's, puddings, etc selections....The calories is probably based on your lab results, weight and other evaluations. I am getting between 500-1000 per day. Each Dr is different so there probably isn't a correct answer. BEST OF LUCK!
