I'm considering VSG with Dr. Aceves versus VSP (Super Sleeve) with Dr. Ortiz. Undecided today,...any advice?

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy(VSG) involves cutting and stapling of the stomach (though not as drastic as bypass) and the Vertical Sleeve Plication(VSP) no stapling or cutting away of stomach tissue. VSP is in it's limited trial phases in the US, so insurance will probably not cover this yet?? But it is the latest procedure and they are doing it in Mexico with success. If you google either, you can get good information on both. Good Luck!

I'm definitely going to Mexico for my surgery, I'm just trying to decide on which Dr and which procedure, VSG versus VSP?? What are the Pre-tests that I've seen mentioned on this site? Is this something that I need to do in the states prior to going to Mexico? What are the tests? :confused1:

I've been researching as well and I'm trying to make a good decision. Why did you choose plication over vsg? And why Dr Covala over Dr. Aceves? Has one performed more plication procedures than the other? Your input it appreciated:confused1:

Congrats! I'm in the decision making stage at this moment. Can you tell me about why you removed your band and elected VSG? I'm trying to decide which procedure and I'm leaning toward the VSG or the "Super Sleeve" Plication (VSP) just not sure at this point??? :lol0: The people I've known that were banded, didn't have great results but that could have been the Dr?? Or the individuals?? Very interested in your journey and what brought you where you are.

Thanks for the info. I've read about a second surgery that's performed after the initial VGS, do you know what that is and why a second surgery could be needed? Congrats on the 65lb loss!!:thumbup:

What an ordeal, so glad you are on the mend. I'm still in the "consideration stage" for WLS. Just curious, what is DS? I'm trying to decide between Veritical Sleeve Gastrectomy and Vertical Sleeve Plication?? :confused1: Then there is Super Sleeve and Laproscopic Total Gastric Vertical Plication??? This is why I'm confused but I will be having a phone conference with Dr. Martinez on Monday in hopes of clearing up the confusion of "choices". I also want to learn as much as possible from the people who've had these procedures. Any and all feedback is much appreciated!

Has anyone heard of the OCC (Obesity Control Center) in TJ with Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Martinez? From what I've read they have been on Ophra, Dr. Doctor's etc. and are esteemed in the industry. Their facility is state of the art meeting/exceeding US standards, cerifications etc... I've noticed that everyone here is or has used Dr. Corvola, Dr. Rodriquez and Dr. Watkins. Any feedback is appreciated both the Dr's and GVS, Super Sleeve, plication, etc..:confused1: Thanks!!

I'm just learning the lingo and quite frankly, it's a little confusing. Ok Kamie you had the GVS surgery, correct? Is this plication (super sleeve)? Or a different procedure?? I was trying to decide sleeve versus plication?? Now there is Total Gastric Vertical Plication Sleeve, Super Sleeve, etc... :thumbup: Which one did you have?

Looks like we are at the same stage of this journey. I'm also looking for any and all feedback. WLS is scary and you certainly don't want to make wrong choices. So glad to hear this, I am leaning toward the plication for the same reasons as well but was not sure it could get all the weight off?? Didn't want to go through surgery and spend $$ and not have the success 'm looking for. I'm a healthy food volume eater as well. Thanks for your comments, keep posting your progress!!!!:thumbup::thumbup1:

Wow looks like you are moving right along!! Is your current weight 151 lbs?

So how are you doing now? What about the weight loss? How do you feel? Any problems? Considering surgery not sure which one I should do (plication versus sleeve)??
