Hello
I am in the process of awaiting insurance approval. My brother has gastric bypass 10 1/2 years ago. He did lose an extreme amount of weight in a short amount of time. He was healed from being an insulin dependent diabetic. His cholesterol normalized in 4 months. He never regretted getting GBP done, but he did have some really severe things happen to him. He had problems maintaining his minerals ie calcium, iron etc. He had severe dumping syndrome ir he ate even a hint of sugar, even fainting and having severe cramps after even a small amount of sugar. When I continued to suffer with physical complications with my weight and began to consider WLS, he refused for me to have GBP..lol. I had considered it but as I have continued through this process, I personally have felt more comfortable with Lap Band. Like the other people on this site have told you, make a list of your pros and cons...you have to do what is right for you.

Dealing with hair loss.
My hairdresser(who is aware of my upcoming surgery, gsve ma a few tips) Keep your hair out of a ponytail if possible. Gently wash your hair. Use a good hair product such as Lanza for color treated hair, sold in better salons, It is easy on your hair. Increase your protein to about 90gm per day. Biotin or a blend of Biotin and other B vitamins is best. Jello...just a few tidbits I hope they help.

Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
Now sounds like the perfect time for you to get banded..it seems like you are "In Your Season of Change." HH Nursing is crazy at times..I am in the middle of that storm also. You will be bringing children into a home where the mother has made a choice to be healthy...sounds like to me you are providing more than a stable enviornment..Jump in with both feet Nurse! (I am an adoptive Mom...remembering that home study and the adoption...sweet memories.)

In need of support
I would recommend that you research all aspects of the Band surgery. Make a notebook of that research, and go to a seminar. If he will go, have him go to the seminar with you. People in your life can sabatoge your dream for you in many ways. You have to know if this is this right decision for you. When people like us have suffered all of our lives that takes a toll and I believe makes us stronger in our convictions for change....Keep your head up and know that there are others praying for you...

Waiting...
The waiting game is hard....trying not to whine...lol. I am planning my Fall and Winter around when I get banded. I am going to take a couple of weeks off from work. I realize that I do not physically need that much time but I feel like I need to concentrate on me for a little while.

To Doctors, Please give me your professional opinion
You are not all that far from Concord NC. Dr. Roc Bauman is an awesome Dr. His staff helps you through the process of getting approved. Although I have nor received my band yet, many friends have received theirs with Dr. Bauman. Not only is he a good surgeon, but he has an awesome staff. He only does bariatric surgery now. Hope this helps. Jill
