    6 month diet requirement

I was self pay for my band in 2009. BCBS PPO here too, and they covered my revision with no 6 month diet. My surgeon had to show complications though, like enlarged esophagus...etc. As far as my hoops, I have a super strict surgeon anyway, and she required more hoops than my insurance hehe. Good luck!
  2. The one liter bottle? If so, you'll need to drink two a day, that would only be half of what your body needs. The only goals I had the first couple weeks is 64 oz of water and 60g+ Protein.

    Thai Miso soup

Miso lover here too. Never tried it with PB2. Great idea, thank you. If I'm a little low on Protein I add a tablespoon of GENEPRO in it. Sometimes I put in a few "Better than noodles" in it, they are zero calorie, low carb, vegan, gluten free and non-GMO.
  4. I once knew someone who had meat intolerance, and they had gallbladder problems. I think sudden food intolerances can be due to acid (ulcers) and irritable bowel syndrome too. I thought about not mentioning this because I don't want to worry you, but perhaps mention this to your doctor, just to be on the safe side.

    Is this normal?

I second those who said it's not normal. I'd go to the ER room, at the very least, contact your doctor ASAP.

    September 2016 Sleevers!

Wow, that is the most strict plan I've ever heard... Mine was clear for 3 days (or if there is zero nausea with clear I can go to Protein shakes and broth). I agree with @@rnstudent343, I'd contact them again and ask them again...

    Please I need encouragement

I think you're doing great. 4 weeks 2 days total, and you're down 18 lbs. To lose two pounds a week, one has to cut their calories by 1000 per day and you're averaging ~4.5 lbs a week. I think that's incredible. Hang in there emotionally, we're all going through this together. *hugs*
  9. Band to Sleeve revision on 9/2/16. My program is strict. It was 3 day Clear liquids, then switch to all liquids for next couple of weeks. Seen many programs on the net that they begin puree on day 8th and end that stage on the 21st day. Creamed Soups help as they are pretty comforting and filling. Campbells Soup to go has no bumps or lumps, for example. I know I get head hunger a lot though. Also, one of the nurses told me that a healing stomach will often mimic hunger, that makes sense and also when our stomach produces more acid it mimics hunger too.
  10. Been using Genepro for some time but never had it in my coffee until just now. I was low on my Protein intake today and remembered reading your post on how to mix it so it won't clump. It turned out great! Thanks.

Share Your Soup, Stew, or Chili Recipe!

I'm Asian Pacific islander and almost always make a tamarind base soup. Very tangy . I add whatever vegetables I have but usually napa cabbage or bak choy, chopped eggplant, tomatoes, onions, garlic and/or ginger. The main recipe is called "Sinigang", and some put pork and others put fish in it. It's very versatile. P.S. It's super low calorie/carb since it's tamarind fruit base broth. 13. Homemade fruit infused Water. Long time ago, I bought an infuser water bottle, and love it. Today, it's watermelon. Yesterday was green apple. No calories, no sugars, and still tasty. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  14. I was told as long as they are the size of an M&M I can swallow it whole, if it's larger (and not time-released, I break them in half). All my Vitamins are in chewable form (except for my multi which is in a patch form for now) as well as my Gas-X pills.
  15. Can you ask for a nuclear stress test? I had to have both types, and the nuclear stress test was by far the easiest stress test ever. They inject you with a chemical and in couple of minutes it's over. Most cardiologists prefer the latter. He wouldn't even look at the exercise stress test to give me clearance. I was so frustrated I did that for nothing. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  16. I was told I can sleep in whatever position I felt comfortable in, I was given a little pillow, and I slept on top of it on my left side/stomach.

    Freezing!

First week I was freezing and our place was 82 F deg... I kept taking my temperature too, but no fever. Second week was much better.
  18. Post 15 days here. Off and on muscular pain on the left lower quadrant, front and back, especially if I bend over. It feels similar to over working out my abs or someone taking a stick and poking me. If it gets bad, I may take a tablet of Hyocyamine (one of my surgeon's prescriptions, a muscle relaxer), and it helps.
  19. This is a very common question so #1 you're not alone. Since it's impossible to gain 8 lbs of fat when taking in 700 cal/day, it's Water. Our bodies do incredible things during healing , it'll come back off, just be patient.
  20. Post op 15 days today. Had my lap band since 2009 before my revision on Sept. 2, 2016. I'm 15 lbs down since I had my surgery. I average 597 cals, 60 carbs per day since the surgery. I talk a daily walk for 20 minutes. Super fast weight loss is almost always Water weight. People just don't lose 5 lbs of fat per day. The way I look at it, if I intake 600-800 cal a day, I'm going to lose weight at a good rate unless I'm retaining water for some reason. If I'm not losing, then I have to figure out why I'm retaining water. That's the way I look at it. Btw, the sleeve makes it easier to cut back on calories/carbs, way easier... I'm really happy with the switch. Really happy.
  21. I'm 2 weeks post op today. I have some pain on my left side, not stabbing pain but it's a throbbing pain. Hyocyamine helps because it's a muscle relaxant. I had stopped it after the 3rd day but when I started taking it again, the pain subsided. I called and asked them about it, and they said the pain is normal especially if bending down, twisting... etc. and just keep track of my temperature because any sign of a fever, it may mean something serious. One of my incisions has a big lump under it too. Thanks for posting this because I wasn't sure if that was normal and it saved me a call to the office. I call way too much as it is. haha.
  22. "As many as 50 percent of patients may regain a small amount of weight (approximately 5 percent) two years or more following their surgery. However, longitudinal studies find that most bariatric surgery patients maintain successful weight-loss long-term. Successful’ weight-loss is arbitrarily defined as weight-loss equal to or greater than 50 percent of excess body weight..." https://asmbs.org/patients/bariatric-surgery-misconceptions

Drinking liquids AFTER a protein shake

I was told that liquids and protein shakes go right through your sleeve (the latter, a little slower I'm sure), and the water rule does not apply in the liquid stage. I still practice it though. I had to do that for years with the band.

    September 2016 Post VSG Updates

How hungry do you guys feel after 1 week of surgery? Is the hunger feeling totally gone? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App 14 days post op here. Head hunger not totally gone, but real hunger, pretty much. Sometimes it's hard to figure out the difference but when you go to the kitchen to eat something, you automatically think "Nah, I don't feel like that." I was told that for awhile, one may feel hungry at first because when you're swollen, it sometimes mimics hunger. There is a video on youtube that covers that. Also an acidic stomach mimics hunger as well, so I have to make sure I take my antacid twice daily no matter what. While I may "think" I'm hungry from time to time, staying between 600-800 cal/day is unbelievably easy at this stage. Hope this helps.
  25. For me, if you ignore the feeling of the food giving a little pressure in the back of your throat and keep eating (my experience with the lap band). I'm 14 days post-op Sleeve but haven't slimed yet but I'm just in the full liquid stage still so I can't say, but I'm pretty sure it's similar. I was eating some Soup the other day, and felt the pressure in my throat so I stopped in a hurry. What was really weird was all the sudden I had a wash of sleepiness come over me. I had read another who said when she started to get full, she got sleepy suddenly too. lol. Weird, I know.
