  1. It really sucks that this has happened to you. Good luck for the future and what ever you decide to go with.
  2. Hoping everyone had a great Christmas. I ate a little of what ever i wanted and i enjoyed it. I am up 1/2 kilo today but it was worth it. Off for a big walk later, that 1/2 kilo will soon be gone. Next challenge - New Year! Cheers everyone.
  3. Merry Christmas everyone. Have a fun and love filled day tomorrow. Enjoy your meal and get back on track next day.
  4. I had a pain like a stitch in my left side for about 4 weeks post op, it was worse if i walked straight after eating or if i got constipated. I think it was just the band settling in and the stitches they used to anchor it healing. I still get the pain occasionally if i lie the wrong way or eat too much. If in doubt, talk to your clinic. Good luck.
  5. I have had issues with fills. I had my first fill under xray. After a lot of pushing and prodding and the use of contrast they put in 6 mls. I felt no difference. Two days ago the doctor tried another fill in his rooms. He said he got out 6 ml and put it back in with an extra 3ml but couldn't get it back again so isn't positive it went into my port. (My port tips and the needle slips out) The fluid he gets back is yellow and previously he has said it wasn't from my band but he doesn't know where it is from. No pockets of fluid were evident on xray. Any way, because the doc is not sure if the fluid went in he gave me a referral for another xray that i have to get done next week if i dont feel any restriction. From there he is thinking of an endoscopy. Well i am eating the same as before with no problems but yesterday after chicken and salad i had a tight feeling across my back radiating up into the side of my neck that slowly eased off over time, not a bad pain just annoying. Do you think this is a sign of restriction? I am looking for food again before 4 hours is up but am not sure if that is just head hunger. I could have zero, 6mls or 9mls of fluid in my band. I dont know if i need to have the xray or not. Doc says i must have restriction if i am loosing weight, but my loss is very slow and i am dieting basically, and exercising nearly every day. I have never had a stuck episode, never PB'ed and never vomited but have definitely exceeded the amounts i food i should be able to eat. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.I dont want the xray if i dont need it.
  6. I want to eat that burger, i could eat that burger, and about a month ago i did eat that burger, and it was gooooooood.......... But the guilt that followed was awful.
  7. This is what is happening with me but the surgeon is unsure what to do. I ended up with a fill of 6 mls under xray but felt no different. Doc tried again yesterday and said he put 3 more ml in but is not certain it went in. If i dont feel restriction in the next couple of days i need to go back to xray and from there to endoscopy and i expect eventually to surgery to have my port repositioned. Surgeon is certain the port hasn't flipped but cant understand why he cant get in, he says it could be because of how deep it is. I am big but i wouldn't have thought i was the biggest patient he has ever had, he only uses regular size needles - like when you get an injection. Xray doc uses extra long needle. Doc also questions my restriction because i have lost 3 kilos in the last 6 weeks. I told him it was because i am dieting and exercising but have no restriction but he doesn't agree. I am frustrated but need to stay focused because i refuse to put any weight back on.
  8. Well, went for a follow up at the surgeon after my very eventful fill 2 weeks ago. He didnt have the report from the radiologist and decided to try and add some more fluid as i have no restriction. He is not certain the fluid went in but thinks it is possible he added another 3 mls to my 6. If i dont feel any restriction by the end of the week i have to have another fill with the radiographer. Any more issues and he wants to do an endoscopy. He is concerned that the fluid coming back is not from my port but if it is a seroma it should be gone by now so he is puzzled by where it is coming from. The fluid coming back is not clear, it is yellowish. All i can do is wait and see. We were going out to dinner tonight for our anniversary and now i have to have soup just incase the fill went in. I hope everyone else is doing OK.
  9. I just ate a big lump of fresh bread without thinking - and...nothing no problems. I am starting to wonder if that 6mls actually went in to my band after all. They had such a hard time accessing my port and had to use contrast under xray - twice, to put the fill in. It wasn't my Doc and i dont think he withdrew it to check the fluid was in my band like my surgeon does. My surgeon thought he had put the fluid in previously and withdrew it again to check and it came back a different color and twice the volume so he wasn't in the port, he was in a pocket of fluid around my port, so i just wonder if i actually have any fill cause it doesn't feel like it.
  10. I have had one fill of 6 mls in my 10ml band and have very little, if any restriction.
  11. I am going to be honest here. After a week i could function quite well but got tired and sore quickly. After 2 weeks i was back at work but was still having a little discomfort and got tired easily. My port wound took 4 weeks to heal up completely. It was 6 weeks before i could say i was no longer having twinges and strange little, and not so little pains. But appreciate those little pains, they reminded me that i was banded and kept me on track with my eating even though i had no restriction as i was afraid i would damage something if i ate more than was recommended. Good luck with your journey.
  12. TRy a warm cuppa in the morning to relax things. Stay away from McDonalds. Try some tuna or salmon or moist chicken and salad and eat slowly and chew well. Stay away from bread. If things don't settle you may need a slight unfill.
  13. Tell him you want support not supervision. All you need him to say when you cheat is that it is OK. We all need to cheat a little sometimes so, then for most of the time we can make good decisions. It is no big deal as long as you don't go back to old habits. I know for me i will crave things and finally give in and have a little and realize it wasn't as good as i though it would be and next time i am able to resist as i remind myself it was not that good anyway(or it hurt). So cheating a little can prevent cheating a lot! So tell him even though you ate something that wasn't the best for you that you are in control and he doesn't need to be. Good luck and well done on your weight loss so far.
  14. I had my first fill of 6 mls over a week ago and it really hasn't made any difference. I have been being cautious and eating slowly. But i have started to loose again slowly. I walk every lunch time during the week while i am at work and i am doing the post op exercises classes at the hospital every Saturday, so i suppose that is helping. I am aiming for 5 kilos by Christmas, but the Festive season is upon us and the lunches and dinners have begun, so it will be tough!
  15. I think you should go and see a skin specialist. They will order blood work to look for underlying causes and then treat appropriately. Do it soon before you get too much scarring. good luck.
  16. I have a ten - good, but i have no idea what it relates too .
  17. I figure people can't judge me for being fat and then judge me because I look funny when I excerise. I admire you for being so brave. I dont think i could do it.
  18. I agree with above, but if you haven't exercised for a long time start small. Park you car one row from where you normally would and, each day a bit further away. Two 5 minute walks a day slowly increasing. I was walking 1 block to start with and now i am walking for 30 to 40 minutes. As the weight drops the further you can go and the quicker you can walk. I shop more now as my back doesn't hurt and i can walk for longer. I use to do my walks in the shopping centre because i could walk, then sit, and then walk a bit further, but i didn't do much shopping as i couldn't stand in line at the check out without my back hurting. I also did things to motivate me as i am not that keen on exercise either. I would take the kids to the zoo or the park, anywhere i would have to walk but that was fun or interesting. Start small.
  19. Good view from the moon! I have had my first fill 3 months post op and have had the same problem. I head to the ladies for relief, but can just about guarantee some one else will be in there as well. So i sit and wait till the coast is clear. Then.... to the moon and back.LOL
  20. I am 3 months post op and until 3 days ago had no fill in my band and was able to eat almost the same as i could before my band, only a little less and with more caution. 3 days ago i had 6mls put in my band and spent 2 days on liquids but felt no difference. Today though i have a niggley pain in my shoulder blade similar to the first few weeks post op. I felt full after a coffee this morning and now i have just had some salmon and lettuce in mountain bread and am feeling quite full. Previously i would eat my mountain bread wrap and then have some extra salad on top. Even though it is a "no no" i have been able to drink after a meals but feel i can't/shouldn't today. This is good, i need the weight to start dropping again as i have lost very little in the last 4-6 weeks. Hooray for fills!
  21. I have had a laparotomy,3 c-sections, numerous laparoscopies including gall bladder removal. My surgeon didn't seem concerned and all went well with my band surgery.
  22. The top post on every page has an add in the box that runs into the post - it is soooooo annoying. I can not get chat to load either, had trouble yesterday but cant get in at all today.
  23. I had my first fill of 6 mls 2 days ago and have been on fluids only since. ( can start back on real food later today) My problem is i have a lot of gas and that is OK at home (my husband and kids may not agree), but i have exercise class this morning. Last week we did palates and the girl behind me had her legs in the air and.... whoops... I just dont want that to be me this week. I would die of embarrassment! Anyone know of any quick fixes ?
  24. Doc couldnt access my port so went yesterday to have it done under xray. He still couldnt get in to the port even though everything looked fine on the xray so he used contrast and still wasn't able to get the needle in. He was then talking about going in to have a look under anesthetic. But thanks to the xray guy, i was sent over to the attached public hospital where they used the bigger xray machine and a longer needle and finally managed to give me my fill of 6mls. I have a pocket of fluid around my port and every time the needle pushed on the port it would tip and the needle slipped off instead of going in. With a better view they were able to get into the port. The needle was pretty bent up when they finished. It didnt hurt.
  25. Finally got my first fill today. I spent all day in the day procedure unit. Had to do my fill under xray - surgeon still couldn't access my port so they sent me over to the public hospital where some doctor did it under the big xray machine with an extra long needle and contrast as well. Turns out my port was tipping when ever the needle hit it as it is still surrounded by fluid. Anyway had 6mls put in and am on fluids for 2 days. Funny thing is, i lost my first kilo this week after staying the same for the last 4 weeks. Oh well, with the fill i should see the weight start to drop steadily again (hopefully). Hang in there guys we will get there!
