  1. Hi Heather... My doc says NO to all carbonation; as the bubbles will stretch out the pouch (banded area). Not worth the risk to me. I turned to Crystal Lite and Diet Liption Tea.

    Feeling Discouraged :(

Amy, my 18 yr old was banded with me (mom) on the same day and her biggest issue in feeling weak and bad is that she is not drinking the protein shakes. I went to GNC and purchased the chocolate Syntha 6 Protein powder and mix it with skim milk and it is pretty good stuff. If you drink 3 per day, one before you leave the house and at lunch and dinner you will feel so much better. During the 14 days, start walking, eat yogurt, sugar free pudding and some broth and you will make it thru. With your busy schedule, carry a jar of bouilon cubes to go in hot water for your broth. This helps with the hunger and tastes really good when you have had nothing else. Hope this helps ya..
  3. Hi Nicole. I had surgery on 7/21. I agree with the other members comments, do the Protein shakes. They really do help you feel full and will give you energy. I actually bought some powder at GNC, Syntha 6 that is much better. I wold recommend sticking with the diet that they have proposed, especially if you have already had some issues. While it seems like a long time, it really goes by quickly. If you walk, you will lose pretty fast. During the 14 days, I did 3 shakes per day; yogurt, broth and sugar free pudding. The drinking shouldn't apply while you are on this stage. The reason for the drinking rule when you start on soft foods is that when you eat, your food needs to stay in your "pouch" for 2 minutes for a signal to be sent to your brain that you are full and if you are drinking vs sipping, you will wash the food down and the 2 min starts over and you will eat more... Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK.

Just to the right of your photo on your profile, choose edit profile, then edit signature and paste it in there. Flatulence

I was banded 7/21 and still have the gas... I think they say this is normal for several weeks following the surgery. I'm just glad it is no longer trapped. LOL
  6. Klisa, the protein shakes are the best way to maintain not only the protein, but vitamins. I chew a vitamin a day as well. I was banded 7/21 and wow what a lot to go thru in such a short period of time. It is hard to feel well nourished when your taking in liquids, but the shakes give you energy and should help until you can start eating. Good luck to you.
  7. I did the same thing.. I thought, what have I done to myself. I was banded 7/21 and about 7 days later started feeling 100% better. The gas will subside and you will feel better soon.
  8. Hi there. I was banded 7/21 and went thru all of those horrible gas pains. I was taking about 3 diff gas relief pills per day, but what really helped was walking. I read it all over this site and just made myself start walking around the block. Take it slow. It started subsidinig within 2 days of walking and I was so grateful. Your right about the pain lying down and then getting up. The gas moves around the most when going from one position to the next. I did not have the pain after eating or drinking so might want to call and ask your doc's office about that. Could also be the gas. Good luck. I started walking in the house as well, but seemed to get better when I got outside and hit it a little harder.
  9. I just had my surgery on 7/21. I called a few days ago bcs of some discomfort like a burning, pulled muscle and was asked if my incision was infected. They said what they look for in an infection is fever, redness and if it is oozing. If you are 8 days out, I would highly recommend going into your doc and have them check it. Good luck. Hope you feel much better and soon.
  10. Hi there. I had my surgery on 07/21 and went to the first orientation a couple of months before that. My doctor has a facility where all of the testing is done in one place and in one day. After the testing the insurance took about 3 weeks to approve and then I schedule my surgery a few weeks after that. Takes about a month and a half to finally get on that surgery table.
  11. Thanks for sharing your pics. I can really tell a difference. You are looking good. Keep up the good work.
  12. I second that one. They are a life saver.
  13. Hi there. I put out a similar post as well to try and find out what everyone else is doing and wow I am getting mixed responses. I was banded 7/21 and am on a 14 day liquid diet and then very soft foods, such as oatmeal, maltomeal, ect.. for another 7 days. I have lost almost 17 pounds. I received a 3cc fill during surgery and really haven't been too hungry until this weekend. I started on some soups this weekend. How is yours going?
  14. Thank you for your awesome message. It is so informative. I am a newly banded member and am trying to read as much as I can to be successful. I am very excited about the journey ahead and welcome the change. Thanks again for the good info and Congrats on such a significant weight loss.
  15. I was banded 07/21/10 and my doc put in 3cc as well. I have already lost 18lbs, but am worried about starting to eat again and will start gaining....
  16. Oh, excellent weight loss by the way. Keep it up.
  17. Hi KimmyTX. I am Kimmy in Allen, Texas. I was banded on 07/21 and have lost 18 lbs and am so excited. I see you are newly banded as well. Post op did you have to do the 14 days of liquids before starting on soft foods? Just curious if diff doc's are instructing diff. I rec'vd 3cc fill in surgery and have not been hungry. Belly is growling, but just do the protein shakes, jello and so forth. I am ready however to start on some oatmeal or something just to feel like I am eating. I go back for the first adj in three more weeks. How has your experience been? Any suggestions? I am walking, walking, walking every day...

Thank you for sharing your pics. You are looking great. I started at 267 and was banded on 07/21. I have already lost 18 lbs, but you know when you are heavier it is hard to tell. I was wondering when I might start noticing, but according to your pics after your loss, you can really notice and you are looking great. Keep it up!!!

    Mashed Potatoes and Eggs?

I am new to this site. I found the tickers, but don't know how to add them to your profile where they show when you email or reply. Can someone let me know how to do this? Thanks...

    Mashed Potatoes and Eggs?

Yes, it really is amazing how many diff stories you will read on here. I am supposed to stay on liquids for 14 days and then start on soft foods for 14-21 days. Is everyone else instructed to do the same number of days? Just curious if diff doctors are doing the same...

I never thought I could lose over 100lbs

Congrats to you, that is awesome. I just had my surgery on 07/21 and have lost 17 lbs in the first week. It is so wonderful to see it coming off after all of these years. I have 101 more to go. Your story makes me excited that I might actually be able to do it this time with the band. Thank you for sharing and good luck on the last 13. Sounds like you have it in the bag.

    Mashed Potatoes and Eggs?

Hi there. I am only one week in, but I do remember in my pre - orientation the day b4 surgery that they said they have not met anyone yet who can eat eggs scrambled. Fried, poached and boiled seem to be fine, but not scrambled. Just trying to save you some heartache. Good luck!!!
