  1. My mom is really hounding me to do the band instead. Here are her arguments please help me to counter: #1 says its safer that if anything goes wrong you can just have it removed. (she is worried about leaks and peritonitis) #2 she says that the sleeve will relax some and maybe stretch some (she watched a youtube video of the surgery and that MD did an xray test on the day of surgery and then 4 yrs later and you could clearly see the stomach was bigger, still small but bigger none the less) so with the sleeve later you are stuck but that if I have the band it can be tightened if you are not losing, basically she is saying that you are stuck with whatever size you end up with after the sleeve but the bands can be adjusted Help

I am really nervous too and im not scheduled until June!

  13. Sometimes you have to weight the action potential and benefits of a specific med for you. You are more prone to C. Diff due to the fact that the acid reduction in your stomach and therefore you are less likely to fight it but C Diff can almost always be prevented with good old hand washing. The bone thing... well it's something we may just have to chance. I dont think I could deal with reflux daily so to think about not taking it makes my stomach burn  So all we can do is educate ourselves best we can and do our best to prevent this complications.
  14. Hey there! We will be going through together! Yay!

    32,000 feet high and ready!

I tried to get my mom to go with me as well. #1 She is my momma:) and #2 She is also a nurse but unfortunately she is recovering from chemo (breast cancer) and is just unable. I would feel so much better with there there. SO I completely understand momma making you feel better!
  16. I notice this used to be a 2 part procedure but folks with lower BMI's were responding well with just the first part. I was just wondering if anyone on here ever went back and converted to the duodenal switch?

    My story

Although it would be great if insurances would let this work but they don't. The problem with this is it wouldn't really cut down on her expense for the sleeve at all. See the way the OR's bill is in time increments (most are per 15 minutes) so basically as soon as the band is out, the billing would start over for the sleeve. I mean the doc may discount his fees a but but the hospital generally does not. I tried this with an necessary surgery with an elective one once.
  18. We are all thinking of you and wishing you well!!

    Staple Question

Here in the US you do not get your serial numbers and all that for basic supplies. You could ask for it in preop but that is not even something we record int he medical record. The only thing we record and provide to the patient like this would be implantable's like breast implants, knees, heart valves ect. I seriously doubt this will be info you can get. I mean we record the type of staples, the size, same for sutures but not serial numbers on the actual boxes
