  1. Im almost 23 weeks and have no intention in getting an unfill. Sometimes I feel tight in the morning and I really have to chew soft bread well but other then "common" band rules, I have no problems. I was told there is no reason to unfill if I dont need it. I was banded in Oct 2010 so my band was under the "new" technique of "tacking" it in place. They say there is less chance of slippage now. My thought is if its going to slip during delivery, it will whether its full or not. If your comfortable and healthy I say leave it. Having no morning sickness did play a part for me too in deciding not to unfill. Good luck.

    Ttc In June

Good luck!! I didnt have IVF but did struggle for 17 years. I am 22 almost 23 weeks and I can feel my port through my skin but it doesnt hurt or anything. I am not considered high risk at all. The Dr is happy I have the band because gaining too much weight is more dangerous to you and your baby. I have 10cc'c in a 14 cc band have have not had any taken out and dont plan too. You have to be conscience about what you eat for nutrition but you would have to be even not banded. Relax and dont put the horse before the cart because pregnancy is hard enough without the band. As long as you have a good OB you will be fine. Its not as hard as it seems carrying with the band. I am having a wonderful experience so far. Band complications are the furthest thing from my mind at this point. If you need an unfill... its as simple as that. Again, best of luck!!
  3. My Dr suggested waiting a year after to lose weight and just be healthier. I think its just a good idea to be your healthiest before getting pregnant but that is my opinion. I waited 14 months and I was off any and all medications I was on, my blood pressure was down and my blood sugar was normal. If I would have gotten pregnant earlier, Im sure I would have been high risk. As of now I have no problems and have only gained 6 lbs in 22 weeks.
  4. Hi all! I am moving to Prescott Valley for a year while my husband is over seas. Anyways.... are there any recommended Drs in N.AZ? I want to have one in place "in case" I need one. I am about 20 weeks pregnant and have 10cc's in a 14 cc band. So far all is wonderful!! i just need someone if I do need to have a bit taken out and to also check my band after I give birth. I prefer fluoroscopy if possible. Did I mention I love my band

    Lapband Is Not For Everybody

I agree that people think it is a magic pill. As for one of the other posters, for me it has been magic, BUT, I also worked on changing my habits BEFORE surgery. It has been one of the easiest things to do. Yes there are moments, especially in the beginning that it is very hard, but that for me was psychological and it lasts a very short time. I could not be happier with my decision and have reached many goals of why I chose the lapband. I still have some to loose but it will have to wait until my miracle baby is born. 17 years waiting and after 1 year with the lap band.... SURPRISE!! Sorry off topic but hard work pays off significantly!!!
  7. I am 19 weeks and have 10cc's in a 14cc band. As of now I have absolutely no problems and have no plans on removing any. The Dr will monitor the babies growth and adjust my nutritional needs if needed. I am 35 and this is my first one so I dont know everything about being pregnant with the band but the Dr assures me that most do very well with the band. Good luck and definitely see your Dr before trying so you can be the healthiest you can be.
  8. I am 18 weeks and so far no problems. Well... breakfast at times is a bit hard but I blame that on being lazy and not chewing. As I get bigger my port is getting pushed out but nothing I can see. Nothing hurts and other then breakfast, its business as usual. The Dr said unless there are problems I should just leave my band alone. I am a lucky one, I had very little nausea and no vomiting. My Dr did say most people have a good experience with the band and pregnancy. I wish everyone the best of luck. Relax and enjoy your pregnancy. The Dr will let you know if your nutrition is lacking but like I was told, most women do very well with the band.
  9. I was extremely nervous before my surgery too but had a wonderful post-op experience. I was worried about the slider food too but I try very had to make good food choices and try to eat quality meals. Believe me you can still binge with the band. Slider food are named that for a reason. They go straight down. Know your trigger foods and stay away. chips and ice cream are mine so I try to ignore them. Stay focused and use the tools around you like this site or support groups in your area. Over eaters anonymous believe it or not is a great group. Best of luck and a swift recovery.
  10. I declined any and all testing because I honestly dont care and besides, what could I do to fix any problems. ALL medical professionals say things that "other" professionals dont agree with. I have had so many friends given low numbers in the last few years and not 1 has had any issues. I do think that at the height of weight loss, our blood work can come out wacky. I do agree with that 100%. It didnt seem your Dr was "blaming" the band but offering an explanation on why the blood work came in weird but your amnio was fine. I honestly dont agree with being pushed to have the tests. But again that is my personal opinion.
  11. Number 1 DO NOT STRESS!! I agree with one of the other posters, sometimes God has plans we dont and cant understand. I was on that long painful, tearful road for 17 years. Dr's couldnt give me ANY reason I could not get pregnant. Their suggestions were lose 15 lbs. Ok I lost 25. Was tested, retested and tested again. Nothing. Yes for me the band was instrumental in getting pregnant. 18 months and BAM! Sometimes when you lose a significant amount of weight in a short time, the hormones that your body produces by fat burning can work against you. Fat loss produces estrogen. I truly believe I got pregnant was because my weight hit a huge plateau and I was on birth control, and 2 weeks after I stopped... well you get the point. I was taking a progesterone only pill so I think that helped balance me out. I honestly believe when the time is right it will happen. I blame trying too hard, stressing about getting pregnant and a being upset each month it didnt happen to the years it took. It can and will happen when its time. Best of luck.

    How To Tell Spouse

I think having him go to a seminar with you could be your answer. My husband is in the military and in great shape and always has been so he didnt understand either. He really was only concerned about my health and the safety of the surgery so it was not a hard sell for me. Having the band is not a failure by any means. Struggling with weight your entire life can be over come. But... I think some of us need a little bit more help then others. With your knee problems pushing through intense workouts is not going to to anything but harm. What happens if you hurt your self bad enough you have to have surgery earlier? More weight would be added! Ill tell you I had knee problems too and I was 297 at my highest. About a month after surgery, my knee pain started to lessen and now I have none!! My husband did not attend the seminar but I showed him all the stuff I brought home and explained that it is totally and completely reversible unlike by-pass and it was safe to get pregnant. He was and is supportive. But like you he never could understand how I just couldnt lose weight. Good luck!!

    Birth control question

I used the mini pill. It has no estrogen which is what made me feel like crap. Ive tried all different kinds of BC just to get rid of the long, heavy, miserable periods I had. It was the only one that I didnt gain weight on or feel emotionally damaged.

Never Ending Menstrual Cycle Since Surgery

I had mine for almost 3 months post surgery. I had to go on BC to help regulate it. I did the mini pill because it has way less estrogen. As you lose weight, the fat breaks down and it produces extra estrogen. Some women have problems with bleeding do to too much estrogen. BC cleared it up for me for the most part. Once your body hits its own pre determined weight it likes, it will be like magic and should regulate its self. But quick weight loss is a very high estrogen process. Just see your regular primary Dr or a GYN.
  15. Well... of course no one likes to be told they cant have children. It has taken me 17 years to get pregnant and only 14 months post surgery. Your initial question was should you stop ttc. A wise and supportive comment would be yes you should stop. Only for now! You dont have to wait forever (I know a year seems a long time). I think Heather was just telling you the the facts. I personally didnt get that she was insensitive or not understanding. I just know my Dr stressed waiting because of all the changes your body makes in that first year. Yes I do believe closely monitored you can have a health pregnancy immediately after surgery. But I know to encourage you to get pregnant ASAP would be counterproductive as to why you got the band. If you were having trouble ttc before, lose the weight, get healthy so you have a happy and healthy pregnancy. If you do get pregnant right away, I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy. I am completely understanding of you wanting a child. As I said 17 years of tears and disappointment for me. But now that I am closer to goal, I am having a smooth pregnancy, I dont have to worry as much about obesity making this pregnancy either high risk or difficult. Being healthy is the greatest gift you can give your unborn child. Best of luck to you if you keep ttc or if you take a small break. No matter what, children are a blessing.
  16. After 17 years of tears and heartbreak, I am finally pregnant!!!!! I stopped taking BC at 13 months because it doesnt agree with me. Well... was pregnant weeks later! This is our first child and beyond excited!! Saw the Dr a week ago and measured 6 weeks. I am going back at 8 weeks to confirm gestational age and for a regular 8 week appt. I currently have 10.5 cc's in at 14cc band. I am concerned I may have issues but the Dr said I should be just fine. We will keep a close eye on the development to be sure I am eating enough and the baby is growing. She said most women do fantastic with the band and is pleased I didnt run out and get unfilled. So far MS is so mild that I do not vomit. She said there really are only positives with pregnancy and the band. I have had no problems in the last 14 months so Im hoping it stays that way. As for the baby... very very EXCITED!!!

    Drinking water with food?

You should be just fine. Occasionally I drink about a 1/2 cup and as long as I dont slam it down Im completely fine. For those times when you need it, you just need it.
  19. My relationship changed for the better. He didn't change at all. I did all the changing. To my husband it doesnt matter what I look like or how much I've lost. He comments on how happy I am with me. He says he loved me no matter what I looked like and now I'm starting to believe him. Maybe therapy would work for you. However, only you can answer the question of staying or going. Good luck!!
  20. I was banded 10/15/10 so almost 5 months ago. Not only am I 65 lbs down but I am no longer insulin resistant and am off medication for it and high blood pressure!!! I have been insulin resistant for about 10 years and never thought it would just go away! My monthly cycle is normal now and I am completely healthy!!! This was my major goal getting banded. I didnt think it would happen so fast but Im so excited. I just had to share with my bandster family!!
  21. Thanks everyone. It has been one of the greatest moments in my life when the Dr told me everything was normal again after like 10 years!!! We can do this, be healthy and look great. I am by no means close to my weight goal but have already surpassed my life goal. It happens for those of you who are on med. Maybe you will never be completely off just because of genetics, but if its just because of weight like mine.... it will happen!!

    How is your progress?

I was banded oct 15 and I feel fantastic. The last month I havent been exercising as much as I should or have been. Im at 65lbs and staying steady at about 2 to 3 lbs a week. Closer to 2 but 3 or more when I workout 5 days a week. Getting back on the workout plan. Its just been a tough month with being sick and stuff. I hope everyone stays positive! We are all different and any loss is a huge step forward.

    Greek Yogurt

I love Athanos. My favorite is vanilla and strawberry.
  24. I use them whenever I want. I personally think it causes more gas or even causes gas. 5 months post-op I just burp some if I use a straw. I do take sips of soda but because of calories I dont drink more then a few sips. I have a friend that says soda hurt because of gas build up. I guess it depends on how big your stoma is. Oh, she said champagne is the worst feeling ever.
