  1. I was wiped out off and on for a good 6 weeks. I do think around the 3-4 mark it was pretty bad. I remember gong hiking with a friend thinking that I was a month out so I could do a "real" hike. I had to turn back... just couldn't do it. Now... I have all the energy in the world. I feel much better than I did pre-op. It takes our bodies a while to adjust to our new anatomy.... you'll get there.
  2. I dont know, but I imagine that most of the guides are for bypass which has a malabsorption component. Thankfully the sleeve has no malabsorption so you are able to get many vitamines from food. We don't eat a whole lot though, so we need to take a little something to make sure we are getting all we need. I take centrim daily vitamins as well as calcium citrate supplements. Many people take iron, vitamin d, and B12 sublingual as well. If you get a multi make sure it has biotin and zinc to help stave off hair loss. If you go to the Bariatric Advantage website, they have vitamins by procedure. I haven't had my labs yet so I don't know if I'm low on anything, but I feel pretty good.
  3. I had a rough time right after surgery. I can't remember how long it took... I want to say 12-14 days. I finally had to use milk of magnesia. things like stool softners and miralax and m.o.m. don't have the same kinds of dependency issues as laxitives do... they just attract water to your bowls. For that reason, if you use them you need to drink lots of water... your already at risk of dehydration. I think I used the milk of magnesia about 3-4 times, and now that my diet is more varied I'm doing fine. I do eat a little fiber one (the hamster food kind... not the over processed kind) with some soy milk once a day. I still only go about 3x per week, but since I don't eat that much it seems to be fine. good luck
  4. I'm 5/7 also, and I too was going to say 6-8 depending on your body type. With dresses that are fetted through the waist I can wear smaller, but if they are fitted in the hips and butt I need larger (yup..i'm a pear). Right now I'm 163 and 8/10 on top and 12 on the bottom. I have found that when I buy things too small for "goal cloths" sometimes they don't fit exactly right when I reach that size. Not to worry though. You can always take it to the cleaners and have this or that seem taken in. And.... believe it or not.... you'll get there
  5. It sucks now, but I promise it gets better quickly. I was feeling pretty good by day 3 (not marathon running good, just walk around the block good). I hate to tell you though.... it was about 7 days before the gas was really gone.
  6. I noticed on my omeprizole bottle this morning that it says "may cause dizzieness"
  7. Its hard right after surgery because you just want to GET THE BALL ROLLING ALREADY. Your time will come to do lost of exercise and weigh all the options when making food choices. Right now is your time to rest and heal. Walking is always good, but save the big stuff for later.
  8. I think its pretty normal. Mine lasted for a couple of weeks and still comes back every once in a while. I found that walking helped, maybe it just got my mind off of it. I remember I had trouble laying flat at first because the constant churning seemed to abate when I was upright. Your docs right, keep sipping and it will pass.
  9. Pre-Sleeve, when I was a compulsive yo yo dieter, the cycle was perpetuated alot by my need to punish myself for my indulgences. I would be on a reasonable diet for a while... then blow it a little bit. That little bit of blowing it turned into a full on WTF binge. After the binge was over I had to get on track... but a part of me needed to punish myself for the binge. I would eat nothing but almonds for 3 days or do hours and hours of cardio. Of course all that self punishment led to another binge etc etc. I was horrible to myself. Be kind to yourself.... embrace your indulgences and know that you will continue to move in the right direction. Maybe falling off the wagon and getting back on in a way that is loving to yourself is what you were meant to learn here. take care stacey
  10. How Awsome that you see your ribs!!!!
  11. okay... this is a completely pointless question but I was just pondering.... right now I'm slightly out of proportion. My top half is a 8/10 and my bottom half is a 12. Now I know that my bottom half is always the last to loose... but eventually things even out. What if I stopped loosing weight right now (I have no intention of doing this). Do you think things would eventually even out, or would I be lopsided forever. Clearly I have too much free time
  12. I find the low GI thing to be true also. I am at my best when I include some complex carbs like a baked yam or lentils. No sugar...no flour (not even whole wheat,) basically I go for lots of protein and then shoot for legumes and stuff like that. If I don't get those carbs I feel horrible and end up wanting to binge on sugar and simple carbs. I limit my fruit and if I do have fruit I always have a bit of protein with it to lower the GI impact.
  13. I know right!!!!!!! sometimes I get so frustrated because I want it to happen NOW. Your right around there too!!!!!! We'll be there before you know it.
  14. I'm a slow looser so I exercise alot. I do a circuit workout (simmilar to curves) on my lunch break and then do cardio or swimming after work. Yesterday I was doing the circuit and the lady that owns the gym told me that I had "outgrown" the machines and its time for me to move on into strength training. She's going to start teaching me the moves next week!!

Well, as all of you that are of sound mind might have predicted.... my ticker moved!!!!! Man my head does weird stuff sometimes. I had so much anxiety the two or three days leading up to weigh day.... convinced I wasn't going to loose enough. Whew... I can put it away for another month. thanks stacey
  16. My blood pressure was too low before surgery. I get dizzy a lot.... just a little rush when I first stand up.
  17. a little off topic... sorry when we drink Protein drinks we are suppose to have protein isolate not protein concentrate. Is this the same for bars... are there bars with protein types that are better (more easily utilized) than others?
  18. I use a whole atkins vanilla shake as cream in my coffee. I use one part coffee to one part protein and I get to feel like I'm haveing a big fat mug of java when really its about 6oz. I remember back when I did south beach there was a recepie for crustless quiche muffins. You could bake a bunch and freeze them. I've been looking for it but cant find it. While I was googling the recepie I came across people who where making quiche muffins by taking foil baking cups and spraying them with pam. I haven't tried it yet but I assume you could do this with any quiche recepie... you could even make veggie quiche and get some veggies in first thing.
  19. I just take the chewable bariatric advantage daily. I have to suck on it real slow so as not to barf. Iron has always made this barfing problem with vitamines worse. What I'm reading though is I should add some iron and D and maybe B???
  20. There's a big difference between lake swimming and pool swimming. If there is anything there besides scar tissue I would really fear for infection. A pool is more hygenic but I was told I couldnt even do that until incisions were completely healed. Your body is realy vulnerable right now... but it wont always be that way. be careful... but be sure to have fun stacey
  21. My doc started me on a ppi 3 days post op. A capsul about the size of the tip of my pinki. I could do it... but I felt it going down. At about 10 days it was a breeze. Now... at almost 3 mos I can take four pills at once if I need to. As far as the ibuprophine.... its hard on the stomach lining. Its best to avoid for at leeast 8-10 weeks post op... after that some docs say you can have it some say you cant. The research however indicates its fine. Theres some other posts... I think titled NSAIDS where tiffikins posted some research links on this. good luck
  22. I took 2 weeks off and, for me, it was too much. I was just sitting at home obsessing about healing and getting in water and protein. It would have been better for my head if I just mixed some clear protein drinks and kept them with me at work. That being said... I have a desk job and don't have to lift anything more than a pencil. It was about 4 weeks before I had any real energy or felt like I could do something like deliver mail all day. If half days are an option that might be a good starting point. good luck
  23. I wonder if you could go to a doc out of your area and just ask for the tests you want without giing the whole story. I'm sure youd hae to pay out of pocket... but at least youd know. Once you had results in hand you could spill the beans. A little shadey I know, but sometimes you have to go in the back door. Just an idea.... I really hope your better soon. I cant imagine being sick on top of trying to heal from VSG. Hang in there!!! Keep us posted
  24. WOW that does sound annoying? I wonder if it has something to do with reflux??? Other than that I couldnt even guess. Have you had an upper GI? Do you eat close to bed time? Well, this isn't a very helpful post, I know, but good luck. Hopefully somebody will post after me that has more to say. stacey
