  1. Happy 53rd Birthday Roseband50!

  2. Oh, BTW, good luck to you! Rose
  3. Hey, can someone tell me how to get my photo that I have on my profile to show up to the left of my messages? Thanks. Rose
  4. Hi Lynn, The liquid diet the week after surgery is difficult. After the 2nd day, I was able to drink 8 oz. every few hours. I had to remember not to "gulp" my liquids. It is a bad habit I have and I'm relearning it now. The nurses told me to to "sip". Learn to "sip" and small swallows. I was drinking 8 oz. of liquid for each meal and then in between I had Crystal Light and water. The first 2 days was very difficult to get all my liquids in. As far as protein, the first week with liquids I relied mainly on my protein drinks which have 14 grams of protein each, plus I make them with 8 oz. of milk (the drink is a powder) which adds 9 grams of protein. They are Medifast shakes I got through my surgeon and now I'm ordering them directly through their website. Anyway, that's how I did it. I was wonderful to get to the mushy phase. Reply if you have any questions. You are going to be so happy you got this done. I am ecstatic! Rose [/url]
  5. Hi March Marauders! Hope folks are doing well. My surgery was 3/2/10 and things are going great. I have some minor discomfort around the port site but it is getting better. I'm still in the mush food phase. My appetite is almost obsolete right now but I find myself seeing food out in public, on tv or at the stores, etc., and wanting it. The visual cues are still there. Also smelling food. It is difficult to remind myself I'm not really hungry. Any ideas on how to help with these situations? I'm open. Pre surgery weight loss 15 pounds - Post surgery - 18 pounds lost

Banded Living- Is This the EZ Way Out?

My response to "sandi2004" is "ditto" for me! All the things you mentioned are difficult. An entire lifestyle change. Mindset too. My decision to commit to WLS has not been easy starting with the 7 months pre-op requirements I had to meet before the insurance would authorize treatment. Thank you for your reminder Sandi. Things will continue to be wonderful. Surgery date 3/2/10 - Pre op weight loss - 15 pounds - post op - 13 pounds. Rose.

Banded Living- Is This the EZ Way Out?

My response to "Bree99". I'm glad you brought up the point as obesity being a medical condition and the tool of WLS to utilize to accomplish that goal. I'd forgotten that and I appreciate the reminder. If anyone ever tells me this is an easy way out, I will remind them! There is nothing easy about this. Difficulty for me has been managing weight of 290 for the past 5 years and uncontrolled Diabetes on insulin. So this is my option to choose to control my "medical conditions" - Obesity and Diabetes. I'm 9 days post op and still have some minor pain around the port but the weight loss has been great. The liquid diet sucked but now I'm on mushy foods which is great. What I really love is that my appetite doesn't exist right now. I'm imagine that will change but for now I'm loving it. I still get "visual" cravings for foods from the tv or when I'm out but I know they are visual and I'm working on ways to get through those. Everyone here is a hero in my book and I know we will continue to be successful! This forum is a great support for me. Thank you all. 15 pounds pre-op - 13 pounds post-op.
  8. Hi Everyone. Just a quick note to say things are going well. Still having pain mainly by the incisions that are at the port site. I've lost 11 pounds since surgery on 3/2/10. I had lost 15 pounds pre-surgery. I can't believe it. The liquid diet is working but I looking forward to some more consistency in some foods next week. If anyone wants to chat, let me know. This is a new and awesome, sometimes scary experience for me.
  9. Hi Marauders. I had my surgery 3/2/10. I'm still in lots of pain but it's decreasing daily. Wondering if anyone had surgery around that same day and would care to share stories, or support? Shoulder pain is bad and incision pain where the port is located is bad but I'm still glad I had the surgery. I finally tolerated some yogert yesterday. Amazing how exciting that can be. The liquid diet is boring (consistency wise) but necessary. I can't imagine eating anything solid at this point. Not hungry. Wish that would last forever!

  12. Hi Cheri. Thanks so much for the reply. The iv fluids were the culprit and plus my surgeon said the kidneys shut down during the operation and the pain medications make them slow down overall the first few days. It improved the next day. The incisions where the port is located are very painful. I'm hanging in there. Starting to miss having some consistency in my liquid diet but know I can work up to some thicker consistency starting in 4 days.
  13. Had surgery today. Severe pain at port sight and peeing every 30 minutes. Thanks! Rose.
