Tell Me
I'm British, so I thought I'd add my own bits of vocabulary We call a car's 'hood' a bonnet we don't go on Vacation, we go on holiday, We don't have trash we have rubbish that we put in bins! we call faucets (sp?) taps. As for sayings; My dad always said you make a great door but you're useless as a window... in other words I can't see the TV, you're in the way! Were you born in a barn? meaning close the door behind you!!! He said this to an Indian friend who came to visit... she was mortified and went on about her mother being able to afford to have her in a hospital!!!!

Should I have a minimum daily calorie intake (worried I am loosing weight too fast)?
Enjoy your honeymoon period because once your appetite returns, and before your first fill, it will slow down and possibly stop altogether. So long as you don't feel ill and still have energy enough to function on a daily basis there's no need to worry.

Hello everyone, new here, from Uk
Waiting lists are not the problem with the NHS you have to see your surgeon and then if he thinks you're eligible he will ask your GP to apply for funding, then if they agree, you get to join the list... depending where you are you could be through the whole process and on the table in 6 months or you may have to follow a supervised diet plan and try drugs and that may take about 2 years.... There's no way of knowing about your particular surgeon/PCT so you will have to ask when you get your appointment.

A Couple of Questions -Day 8
There are as many opinions on post op eating as there are surgeons.... I'm told that over my first week I can move through the food in stages as I feel ready to do so.... I'm day 9 today and I've had oatmeal for breakfast... Still feel stuffed to the gills!!

Why dont' you try the local Nuffield or Bupa hospital in your area, they will usually be able to put you in touch with their bariatric surgeon.... Hope that this helps....

Arrrggghhhhh!!! I'm not losing!!!
Thanks very much.... It's not like I didn't know all this stuff already ... like I say in my signature.... I'm unable to follow my own advice! It was the scales fault!! I shall banish them to the attic and get them out just once a week I think that will be plenty for anyone to endure ....

BMI 39... should I eat more??
I know that Europe is a long haul flight for you guys, but the costs in the US and Mexico, seem astronomical! I had my band fitted in Paris the cost was 4500Euro.($6005!) My surgeon sees quite a few USA citizens and fits them with the Lapband so they can find a fill doctor when they get back home. Even with the flights and hotel accomodation it would surely come out less expensive, if you can spare the additional time... I would recommend an extra week in Paris post op to recover and enjoy the world's most beautiful City!

Can I smoke after surgery / Why YES I CAN!!

Should parents be able to smack children in discipline
My boys are older now, but I did smack them when they were younger rarely... but it happened. They are healthy happy, law abiding, individuals who have a strong moral compass. M usual punishment if they misbehaved was the 'naughty step' a kind of time out away from everybody else.... Beating your kids is obviously wrong, but reasonable smacking can be a good form of discipline for children.

Arrrggghhhhh!!! I'm not losing!!!
Right I'm gonna moan, I'm 8 days post op and I've lost 10lbs since op day.... I'm on liquids, I worked out my calorie intake was around 600+/- calories per day, and I am sooo NOT hungry, and despite this I really can't be bothered to eat anything... which is VERY unusual I'm drinking my water although that's a struggle, I'm a gulper by nature, but I'm getting there with 2 litres per day. But for the past 3 days the scales have not moved and to add insult to injury I gained a lb this morning.... Someone tell me how the HELL that happened!!???!!!   I realise that I should step away from the scales, but it's a habit... get up pee weigh self, wash, brush teeth.... that's how it goes unless my eating is out of control, then the scales don't even figure in my life! Anyone who has some explanation how I can be eating virtually NOTHING and gain a lb, I'd be really appreciative it

Bandsters, What did you eat today???
I though it would be fun to start a thread ... a kind of food diary, that lets us keep track of what we're eating and also gives some of the pre op patients an idea of what life will be like with the band... it might be a good place to also put if the food you ate caused you to pb too! I'll start the ball rolling... 28/3/07 B: starbucks blueberry yoghurt L:Carrot and corriander soup 1 cup 250mls D: Roasted carrot and ginger soup 250mls with 150g VLF cottage cheese blended into soup for extra protein. Snacks... Drinks; blueberry ribena extra light 500mls, 2 large black coffees, 2 glasses water. 1 peppermint and liquorice herbal tea (300ml) No pb's but lots of burping, still on liquid diet.

Dr Chris De Bruyne does fills in Scotland and is a colleague of Dr Dillemans. Ask Dr Dillemans if you can use Dr Chris for your fills. ( I believe he charges around £50, but don't quote me as I'm not one of his patients.)

I'm back and I'm banded!!!
Had a good day today, much better since I changed my dressings ones I'm not allergic to! Feeling a bit hungry today so had a look at how much protein I'd been having and it was sadly lacking!! so I added 100g of very low fat blended cottage cheese to my carrot and corriander soups.... much better! I've been using weight loss resources to track what I'm eating to make sure that I've had enough of all the right things everyday... it's been really good so far. I still haven't managed more than 800 calories a day on fluids, and that was with the cheese added to 2 lots of soup. Good news is that I've had 6 portions of fruit and veg in one way or another!

I'm back and I'm banded!!!
MRSA, is a worldwide problem... about 20% of the population have MRSA on their skin, up their noses or in the groin or axilla (armpit), if you are healthy it will cause you no problems and will clear on it's own. It's only a problem if you have an open wound and it gets into it that it causes problems in hospitals it poses a threat because there are lots of vulnerable patients who would be very ill if they got the infection. Poor hand hygiene is the biggest cause of spread. Just make sure that all the nurses wash their hands before they touch you!!! You'll be fine!
