  1. My surgeon had a nice talk with me and he said on patients over 300 pounds, he prefers that they get gastric bypass instead of AGB. I have always wanted to get banded instead, but at 400 pounds, am I SOL? I think he's worried about complying with the longer period of weight loss and says I won't lose all the weight I should. My father, a retired doc, says RYGB would be surer of weight loss. Opinions, thoughts, any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! I need to decide soon, as all I'm waiting for is my PCP's letter. Thanks in advance, Bill (Red wine lover)
  2. I'm sorry to say, as a man, that this is probably more of a normal response to a slimmer you. Whoever said men are pigs had it right, at least half the time!:phanvan It's this stupid society of ours, where we value skinny, almost anorexic, looks in all our ads, be they print or T.V. Or look at the cover of any romance novel, the men are chiselled hunks and the women usually have some cleavage showing. Is this the real world? Of course not, but we've been trained this way for a long, long time. And of course, it's not right! I've looked at some of the before/after pictures here and said to myself; what a looker! Then I look at the before picture and I can still see those good looks, but as a society we so often simply pass people by who don't fit that stereotyped look. I include myself in this; I'm one or two hoops away from getting banded and I can't wait. In the meantime, I've become very cognescent about how people look at and treat me. Even as a (fat) man with a great sense of humor, it's humbling to be 'blown off' because people don't really know you, they're going simply by size! End of rant . . . Most of us aren't doing this to just look good, we're doing this to live! Bill (Red wine lover)
  3. I've been trying to get my wife to see the above point of view. It's emotionally draining to know that once I get my surgery and start losing weight, we can have sex again. I won't have changed inside, I still desire her but I need her now, not 20 or 40 or . . . . pounds down the road. Good luck with your divorce. The pain and sorrow will pass. God has a reason for everything! Bill
  4. Hi! Just to introduce myself, I'm a 52 year old man with a BMI of 51.1, so we all know what that means! I'm currently trying to see my family doc for a recommendation that weight loss surgery is necessary. A recent sleep study showed severe sleep apnea. Last time I called the nurse and left a message for the doctor about WLS, he called back and left a message: "Just try and lose some weight"! I'm not a very 'pushy' person, but I can't let it drop, we're talking about my future well-being. I do have an appointment this Friday, the 13th, with him, so wish me luck! Any suggestions would be most welcome. Bill (Red Wine Lover)
