    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

She said that whatever you drink the week prior to surgery during the fast, many people seem not to like it afterwards. She said everyone is different and sometimes your taste preferences change.

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

5/10. Im a bit nervous. Also a failed lap band from 2010 :( but my team is great and im envisioning a healthy future to keep me motivated. I packed lip balm. Moisturizer. Earplugs. Phone charger. Don’t plan on being there long and come home in same clothes wore in! The dietitian said not to plan on liking any protein shake i liked preop so be careful what you stock up on. I seem not to mind any of them so it will be ok! New to posting and talking about all this.
  4. I have moved in the last four years and the only local physician in-network has stopped placing Lap Band... She actually talks negatively about it. Needless to say, I didn't go back. It has been three years since my last follow up and I am failing. I have never lost more than 15 pounds with the band, but it did not come back. My last visit I had a stretched esophagus so they took the Fluid out of the band to heal the esophagus. I want to see a new physician and I am looking for someone close with a good reputation in the Hershey/Harrisburg area (17033). I would like to get back on track and If that isn't possible I am willing to consider other options. I am also currently having some heartburn after having the Flu and Bronchitis and fear something might have happened with all the coughing. Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.

    Using Straws

You can drink too much through a straw and swallow more air than usual, which will cause some discomfort. Usually, you can burp air without a problem, but the band allows minimal stuff down or up, so burping does hurt a bit, and if you have to burp and cant, you might be uncomfortable for a while.

    why so slow

I often have trouble with breads coming back up, even things like cereal. The chest/back pain is the feeling of something trying to fit through the little narrowing from the band. The esophagus expands to let it fit, but your band does not. Make sure you chew well, slowly, and swallow half bites instead of whole mouthfuls. That usually helps me. I have been able to eat just about everything as long as I eat carefully. You shouldn't be outright vomiting because it can cause slippage of your band, so be gentle on your new stomach. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about calories and types of food you are eating to be sure you are on the right track.

    first-aid freak out

after the doctor says his bandages can come off, the wounds should be uncovered so they can dry. creams, neosporin and ointments aren't good until they are completely healed because they make the scab moist and vulnerable to infection. you should really talk to your doctor about what to do about it. I found out I am allergic adhesive after gallbladder surgery and had huge blisters everywhere a steri strip touched and everywhere the bandage was. Doctor knows best!

    starting to freak a little

the lapband.com site is good. You can sign up as a member which gives you access to track your weight before and after surgery, help you with a list of questions for your doctor, and there aretons of other things available on that site.
  12. Lap band is a "tool" for weight loss. After surgery you will be on a special diet for the first month. Then after that it is like a baby, you introduce new foods cautiously until you know what you can and can't tolerate. You will eat much less, but you can eat many of the same foods you love. I had chicken tenders yesterday for the first time and they were fine. You have to be careful to follow you doctor's instructions or the "tool" will not work right. It is a lifetime committment so don't take it lightly, you are right to have concerns and maybe you should talk to your doctor. Your post stated your stress well, take it with you to remind you what to ask about or call them on the phone.
  13. week one liquids (described by my doctor as anything that will fit through a straw but without using one) week two mushy foods week three solids
  14. Congratulations! Don't worry the pain will go away. I hurt from shoulder pain in the hospital so bad I cried and paced the halls all night. Morphine, toradol and percocet gave minimal relieve and for a short period of time. It took a whole week for me to be able to sleep in bed. Don't eat too fast because it will cause the pain to come back once you do get rid of it.
  15. It looks like you are having 2 protein shakes and three meals. I am starting my third week and the doc told me to go off the protein shakes and get my protein from my three meals (good quality food) eat the protein first and then the carbs.
