pnw218 got a reaction from Pastor Paula Jackson in Speak up those with leaks & infections!
ITA .... it seems to go in waves. When I first got to this site, things were calm. Then the dr ragging started. It is highly annoying and a distraction from the good things here.
I agree with what was previously suggested - that specific references to doctors and clinics are not included in public posts. If someone writes that they had a bad experience, they can pass their dr/clinic info via a pm to whomever is asking.
I tend to be an optimist, not a pessimist ~ so understand that some people are going to complain about any service or product, just to complain.

pnw218 got a reaction from AthinnerAmy in VSG for Lower BMI - HELP!
I think the numbers game is relative, just like anything else. Is 80 degrees too warm? For me, it is. For someone else, 100 is comfortable.
My BMI was lower at 33, however I have had the onset of depression, sleep apnea and bulging disks in my back as well as other smaller medical issues.
Yes I wanted to look better - but I also wanted to get healthier, enjoy my life and prolong my life. I was blessed with my first grandchild four months ago and the thought of not being able to enjoy her was not an option.
My insurance requires a minimum BMI of 35 and only with medical issues. And they want to monitor you for a year before saying yes, and they might say no. It made no sense to me at all to gain 30 or 40 pounds to qualify for surgery to lose weight.
My personality didn't allow for that situation. I did my research and booked the surgery. I was very frustrated with myself as I waited for my surgery to start that day .... why couldn't I lose 50 or 60 pounds on my own? However, that passed - valium does wonders! LOL I am now so happy just a few days out of surgery that you can not wipe the smile off my face.
You do need to decide for yourself. And remember that everyone, doctors included, have their own opinions. I chose to tell very few people ahead of time. I wanted to hear from those who had experienced the surgery more so than anyone who just thought it was a crazy idea "because".
Good luck to you! I hope you find the information to make the best decision for your life!

pnw218 got a reaction from 4ALongerLife in When is it a food addiction, and when is it just overeating?
I certainly don't know what the difference is. I thought about every next meal all the time and grazed in between meals. I am probably quite fortunate that I didn't weigh more than I did at surgery time. I ate to Celebrate and ate when I was depressed.
I am always busy and active, but not in an "exercising" kind of way.
I still miss food mentally. Had a party at my house Saturday night - kept walking by the food bar and reaching for something, and then would realize I couldn't have it. It didn't ruin my night but drove me nuts. Not sure how long before the auto pilot to eat stops.
Overall, I am doing well and like you said, really doesn't matter what type of issue it was, I needed the surgery for a variety of reasons.

I used to be a call receiver for 911. Many people would probably be shocked by how many guys "die in the saddle" first thing in the morning. Especially if there are any other contributing factors beyond just age and prior heart conditions.
All guys should be more careful in the am. Take a walk around the house or something first to get the blood moving before they overwork that heart : )

Hi Cindy and congrats on your loss so far!
I am new to the sleeve but can offer a little info.
    1. Heartburn - prilosec is available OTC (over the counter). I take one 20mg omeprazole per day; that is the generic for prilosec. I can take two if I need it. I have a rx for it and have taken it for several years. There are several other similar types of meds. Your doctor may direct you towards one or another, or maybe a pharmacist could help. I didn't have heartburn but would get a soreness in my stomach. I have had very little discomfort in my stomach but have been staying away from citrus and spicy foods, and anything else that hurt my stomach before surgery.
2 & 3 - I am still having a hard time getting 64oz of Fluid because I eat so slow. It takes me probably an hour to eat 2 oz. And I can not take a single bite more than that or I am too full and uncomfortable. Some people seem to have few problems with drinking. Most everything is settling ok tho.
I followed the Cornell University Gastric Sleeve Diet Guidelines. http://www.cornellweightlosssurgery.org/pdf/dietary_guidelines_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf
Maybe you can get some ideas for eating and drinking from it.
Sorry I don't have anything specific to offer! It can be different for everyone.

We disagree and that is ok. There is no law that says we have to agree on everything. If and when I am provided proof that convinces me that one doctor is better than another, I might change my mind. For now, I am not going to cry wolf just because someone posted something on a chat board. I find it very hard to believe that any doctor has a perfect record.
