pupichupi got a reaction from RJ'S/beginning in The worst time of the year!
    RJ,
I went to a therapist and she diagnosed me with Major Depression, and that is why I am on meds too, so I know what its like and I hope that someday I can figure out how not to be depressed but for now I just go along with the swing of things? I know right now is my bad time too, but of course I live in new england and it is freezing here and we have had sooooo much snow this year and I really hate the snow and the cold and so it makes it that much worse??? I feel off most days too and trust me I am not all here anyway, lol but being more off is just that much worse? I know it will pass, but I suffer from depression all year and it doesn't get a whole lot better? I sometimes wonder if my weight and my health has a role in it cause I hate my body and the way I look? So anyway I hope you feel better soon!!! You deserve to!!!

Hey RJ, I know how you feel, cause I have been saying the same thing about being depressed. I am scheduled to have my surgery in 2-1/2 weeks and I have been so anxious it's stressing me out, but then the depression from the weather here is awful. No Sun, all white, snow everywhere, and more coming. I hate it. I need to move out of Massachusetts to somewhere warm, but all my family and friends are here, and my job and my kids father everything is here so I don't go? I don't do anything just get up and do the same thing everyday go to work and suffer through it. I do take depression meds on a regular but I don't up them. It's also not an everyday feeling it's maybe a couple days a week and if I am lucky it's only once a week, but I just hate feeling down? I just want to crawl in bed and cry all day???? So please cheer up and hope everything gets better!!!

It's variable for everyone. My surgeon did a great job of making sure my pain was adequately controlled while inpatient. I was sure to hit my button before I would get up and do my strolls down the hall tho it honestly wasn't that bad. I took pain meds when I got home for a few days. Was more sore than anything but honestly not that bad. My c section was awful, gallbladder rough, and rny...breezy! I gotta say I think my dr was right about the get moving and walk and it would help. That and never miss any opportunity to blow out some of that gas!!!!

I know I'm going to have a drain but I can't for the life of me remember if anyone at my surgeons office actually told me that. I've had 3 friends that had the surgery with the same surgical group and they had them.
At first I was annoyed at the thought of it but then it was explained to me that if you have a leak you can get very sick if you don't know it. If you start getting weird stuff in your drain they may put you back in the hospital for a few day and not let you eat but it will probably heal on its own. So I'll take the drain I guess.

I think it's totally normal. Even tho u had the lap band u know RNY has a little bit more to it and is going to change life a lot. I was so scared and right up until the time they were wheeling me in I was like wtf am I doing? There are a lot of people who have these same feeling I just don't want u to feel u are alone and u are at the best place to vent and share. As for the boss...jackasses will always be jackasses! happy hump day!!!

Hi Tina1577 Thanks for the reply. I guessed id have to do LOTS of exercising... All though I have been a big person all my life I am pretty fit (by my thinking any ways lol)... Yeah in England you have to do the pre op for the amount of weeks before surgery dependent on your BMI. Im having mine done through the NHS.
They will do skin removal later on if it is a matter of health, other wise ill have to find it my self .
Yeap I agree one day at a time... Thanks

Everyone's different. I'm 54 but RNY was a breeze for me. Little pain, quick recovery. By comparison my gallbladder removal three months ago was WAY worse, and neither compared to my rotator cuff surgery five years ago - that was the WORST!!! Hope you feel better. :-)

I don't have a date yet, but I was told at my first consult that it will be in March. I have my last 2 appt's on Tuesday, then it's a matter of waiting for the appt call from the surgeon. Insurance is already approved, so I'm good there. I'm hoping for on or just before the 17th, my youngest (18yrs old) has that week off for spring break. It would be nice to have someone home with me for the first week. I get terribly bored, reading makes me sleepy and daytime tv is the worst. With him home we can play cards, put a puzzle together and just hang out which is something I normally don't have much time for.

Mellie May, my surgery is March 19th, I start my pre-op diet next week on the 5th, I am really excited. This is my second surgery, as I had the lapband done and it didn't work for me, I had many problems with it, and had to have it removed. I am now going for the Bypass, I am skipping right over the sleeve and going to the final surgery. I really am excited to get this journey started and get my weight under control. I have been a heavy all my life, and I am finally ready to get to a healthy weight. I have many medical issues that prevent me from loosing weight and exercising with all this weight so i feel that this is it for me. I am putting all myself into this!!! I am very happy I have a place like this to go to when I have questions and or need just a little push of support from people who have gone through it all. Thanks and I will keep you posted.

Hi Mellie May, I haven't told anyone but My Boyfriend and our best friend. I am not telling anyone till I feel ready. It won't be till after I have my surgery I know that, but I just want to show people that I can do that, and if they judge me that's their issue, I don't care what everyone else things as I am not doing this for everyone else, I am doing this for me, and my kids. I want to be around for my kids for a long time and at the rate I am going I won't be, so I need to do something now so I can be here. I love that I can just tell my story and show myself here because there are people here that know what I am going through, and there is support here, so I am telling everyone on here. I wish you good luck in your journey, and I support you!!!!

Tina I agree with you 100%! This is such a unique environment, and the WLS community is amazing at providing positive support for one another. It's great that while you and I may have a small support network at home, we have the ability to build a large support network online to help us with every step of our journey. When is your surgery scheduled? Please keep me posted on your progress!

I had my bypass surgery on 02/19/14. During my two week pre-op diet I dropped 15 lbs. My surgery weight was 303. Two night hospital stay was OK. the only real issue was sleeping....I sleep on my stomach. I have had very little pain or discomfort. Other than some very minor gas pain Sunday, not much to speak of. scale said 295 this morning! Pleasantly surprised how this has gone so far....especially since this is just the beginning of a new lifestyle. On my way to a new me!

You know what it sounds to me like you have done a great job of doing what you set out to do on the surgery, so my suggestions to you is that maybe it's time to let the cat out of the bag and let the people that your close to know. You shouldn't have to stress about going to dinner with friends or meeting with family and worried if they will find out. You have done this for yourself and who cares if they don't approve after it's already done, they have seen the results obviously. I think now you can just be like here I am and this is what I had to do to get my health in order, and if you don't approve well it's not your life and I am sure everyone will accept the fact that you did it, cause they love you, and they want to support you, but man I give you big props for doing it all on your own. That's insane, I had the lapband surgery prior to me now going in to have the bypass, and I remember how that was and I can only imagine how much worse this one will be and so I think your pretty amazing and I don't even know you!!! You do you, no worries about what others think!!!!

I had a secret surgery - and I mean SECRET.....

Aside from my surgeon, only my husband knew/knows. I am 9 months out. I NEVER regretted keeping this a secret. I joined this forum and only those here know.

Last week I had a breast cancer scare and saw several doctors, of which different family members came to different apts. That was tough because I HATED that I had to reveal to each doctor, my surgical history. I did well though with keeping my family from hearing.

I was told I was INSANE for doing this without ANY help....
My husband was out of state for work and was scared for me and didn't approve because I went through it all alone. I had one friend drop me off (lied to her why I needed ride to hospital) and had a different friend pick me up (also lied to that friend why I was there). I then took care of myself alone for the entire time. 6 weeks later, my Doctor cleared me to travel and I drove 500 miles to where husband was working.

So here is an issue I am facing....
I am 9 months out, and down 100lbs. People have indeed noticed the loss. I was VERY careful to not plan dinners with friends or go to restaurants with family - and if I did, I would generally say I wasnt too hungry or I didnt feel so great. I used the excuse of menstrual cramps pretty regularly. NO ONE questions those.

Do I feel a bit like a fraud? eh well yeah a little bit. Do I give a flying f*ck - NOPE. I could care less if anyone THINKS I had bypass.
I did have a family member ask me - and I burst out laughing in her face saying "seriously, you think I could have hidden a major surgery like that????"
