  1. I'm not too far away in Germantown, MD, but I wanted to invite you to join our D.C. Metro Sleevers group on Facebook - we meet up once a month...and this month's meeting is in Alexandria!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/dmvsleevers/
  2. To throw another answer in the mix, my doctor doesn't restrict carbs (or calories...or anything, for that matter). My only job is to eat a minimum of 70g of protein per day, and other foods are my choice. I've had a plethora of carbs post-op (I'm almost 3 months out), but find that I just can't eat much of them - they swell up in mah belly. I do enjoy them, though!
  3. Congratulations! Consult with your doctor, of course, and I'm sure all will be well!

Another thing to throw in your head - my abdominal pain has been linked to my gall bladder (after consultation with my doctor and an abdominal ultrasound). I'm 12 weeks post op from the sleeve, but about to go back under the knife to have my g.b. removed.
  5. Doctors sure are different - mine has never set a goal for me, either and ending goal or by weeks. Until I was 8 weeks out, in fact, he didn't care what I had lost...only wanted to make sure I was healing properly and getting my fluids/protein down. Relax everyone - the weight DOES come off. Heal, take care of yourself and follow the plan. It WILL work.
  6. I agree with your husband . Keep doing what you're supposed to be doing - the weight WILL come off. I remember being frustrated early on, but my doctor reminded me that my job in that time period was to HEAL with protein and fluids...not to lose weight.
  7. Post op? I absolutely can't drink while eating, nor can I drink until at least 30 minutes after eating. Restriction does that to a person
  8. The stat is true for everyone, based on the information...30% of your excess weight, though, so be sure you're calculating that . For me, I had 142 pounds total to lose (although "goal" is so far away, who knows what I'll look/feel like when I'm close to that). With that excess weight amount, 30% would be 42.6 pounds. Not sure when I hit that, but my three month surgiversary will be September 6th - and I'm down 50.4 as of this morning.
  9. I've seen repeatedly that sleevers should expect to lose 30% of their weight in the first 3 months, on average. I can tell you that I'm not quite at 3 months yet, but I've blown past the 30% part...so the statistic worked for me!
  10. Ask him about straws. And caffeine. (Since you're already asking about other hotly debated items )
  11. I track everything using MFP as well - mainly because I need to know how much Protein I'm getting in. While tracking can seem like a time suck (although, I find it very easy to do with my smart phone, tablet & computer. In reading your post, however, I think it's important to remember that I could not have done this without my sleeve. Yeah, I can track without it...but there's no way I'd be eating as little and as balanced as I do without it. I'd be starving. I'd give in and have a huge plate of nachos (and a burrito). I'd have days where I didn't care. The sleeve forced me to care, and it forces me to make the best food choices I can - I don't have space in my tummy to choose crap, and still get in my daily protein needs!
  12. While the two very well could be related, this is something I would be calling my doctor about!! Ongoing pain, nausea, etc. is nothing to mess with - consult with your doctor, please!
  13. There are a ton of SF creamers and syrups on the market that are delicious - try them out until you find one (or several!) that you love! As for decaf...can't help ya. My doc allows caffeine and coffee. Mmmm....
  14. When your weight starts with the number one!
  15. Then your body is adjusting - you just had major surgery (I'm guessing) and your body is bloated. It'll balance out
  16. Easy thing about eating/drinking post-op? You physically CAN'T drink while, or after, you eat. It hurts. Seriously - I have to wait a good 30 minutes after a meal to even think about sipping something (I'm almost 12 weeks post op). Even if you don't get the habit down pre-op, you'll be forced to do it after!
  17. I don't see old man NOR too thin. I'm jealous of your success, and hope to be there myself someday!
  18. My doc was fine with eCigs (I'm "vaping" the highest nicotine mg) - heck, I vaped in my recovery room. He thinks nicotine will eventually be proven to be as safe as caffeine...it's the 4,000+ toxins and tar in cigarettes that are damaging (especially post-op). I'd ask your doctor, to be sure, but mine was absolutely fine with the switch. He now recommends it to other sleeve patients after seeing my success!
  19. Join our group (link above) if you're on Facebook. Our first live meet-up is this Sunday (August 24) in Montgomery County, MD!
  20. Anyone in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area, please join us for our first LIVE support group: Sunday, August 24th @ 3:00pm Seasons 52 11414 Rockville Pike North Bethesda, MD 20852 If you plan to come, please let me know in a private message. We want to be sure our reservation covers those who wish to come!
  21. Hey, if you want to risk your post-op recovery, go for it. I'm glad you feel fine...and I hope you don't have the "one time" you don't.
  22. My doctor recommends cutting carbs to no more than 50g/day when/if you reach a long stall. Other than that, no restrictions on carbs! I find that when I focus on protein, which is what I'm supposed to be doing anyway, there really isn't room for hundreds of grams of carbs per day anyway!
  23. I've lost 29 pounds since surgery on 6.7.13 - quit whining . In all seriousness, you're doing great! Even though I've lost less, my weekly average is a little over 3 pounds a week - I'll take it!
