    People knew i had the lap band because I was an evangelist, loved it, lost 100 lbs in 8 months. After 13 years of problems and revisions, I'm not telling a damn person except my husband and mother...because my mom is getting sleeved at the same time, across the country, so we can support each other. In fact I'm telling work that I'm getting my hernia repaired to explain the time off and liquid diet. I no longer care what anyone else thinks. I want this for me.

    Hey guys
    My name is Norman.. I'm 25 years of age and I'm starting my pre-op Bariatric surgery (sleeve) journey. My hospital where I'm having my surgery is the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.. My surgeon will be Dr. Noel Williams (head of department) and my first appointment is scheduled for 07/20/16, I attended an informational session yesterday and I say I'm about 90% sure I want the surgery.
    I'm currently 5 foot 9 and 390 Pounds with a BMI of 56.6 and though I don't look like it... many people say that.. I feel/am the biggest I ever was in my life!!! this is actually the second time I reached an astronomical weight.. at 17 I reached a high of 309 accompanied by high blood pressure but some how, with minimal diet changes and labor jobs I had over the years.. I was in my 240s.. don't know but I was that low in weight and ever since 2013 and now I've reached a breaking point where I'm tired of being Obese and want to do something permanently about it!
    I'm not just fighting everyday temptation from eating bad food.. though I admit I say more than half my gained weight was my fault... I'm fighting genetics. My dad was 6.2 over 400 pounds and had his first heart attack at 30, throughout his 30s.. heart disease, broken ankles (weight), numerous attacks and strokes... They found him dead in his apartment on my 12th birthday.. it was assumed he died of heart failure... I'm not going out like that !!! I plan to live as long as I can so along with the lifestyle change.. I hope this story gets me there
    I've done alot of research and don't have any questions as of yet... I have 1, hows the pain during post op as you are recovering?

    The feeling of seeing the scale move down instead of up is the best feeling in the world. . I cant really explain the joy im feeling in my life right now..! And congratulations girl your killing it!! I'm glad you see where I'm coming from.. It's definitely possible 100's and thousands of people have wls so there's no way that people wouldnt be super slow or super fast loser's.. But you know how social media goes.. Damn if you do.. Damn if you don't.. I don't let it get me down I find it funny lol because to think someone can tell another person about their body is ridiculous lol but girl take your Honey moon stage and run with it use this time to really get into yourself and drop the weight you are already on a amazing start and I wish you nothing but the best! I'm not here to make someone believe what's realistic or not so I'm supposed to downplay my journey or not post my victories just for someone else to believe was realistic or not? Come on now that makes no sense.. you want realistic go to your doctor and get a chart you don't go on a site and look at other people and judge them.

    I hated most shakes I tried... but I found out that I am intolerant to aspartame and sucralose. bipro is stevia based, and I've been on the liqud diet 2 days and drinking them a few times a week before that and I still think they are delicious. It doesn't taste "fake" and overly sweet like the other ones do imo. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a few ice cubes to curb the powdery taste and I'm good to go.

    thought i'd share some pretty incredible numbers i got back from my last blood draw a few days ago. and compared to 2 weeks pre-op. so about 14 weeks total......

    weight: 370 -> 285 BP: 180/120 -> 115/70
    resting pulse rate: 72 -> 48
    fasting glucose: 125 -> 91 (basically "beginning stages of diabetes" to "can't get much better than that") hBa1c: 7.5 -> 4.9 total cholesterol: 276 -> 156 LDL-C: 201 -> 94 Triglycerides: 140 -> 79 ALT: 64 -> 20 (f*cked up liver to not-f*cked up liver) AST: 103 -> 20 (f*cked up liver to not-f*cked up liver) cortisol: 20.5 -> 6.5
    so that's what can be quantified. what can't be quantified is the emotional changes and degree of overall happiness, which are now off the charts. i am also 14 weeks sober, which has never happened for me since i started drinking back in college! (but desperately needed to)
    anyway, i was a walking time bomb before, but now a walking picture of health. and just signed up for a half-marathon next spring!
    god bless this surgery. i feel fortunate that the problem i have had my whole life has a medical fix like this. others aren't so lucky.
    i'll post some pics when i build up the nerve.

    general_antiope reacted to kristenmh in Anyone else have a staged surgery lapband removal and waited for vsg months out?
    It's totally normal (it happens to almost all of us) to stall between weeks 3 and 5 post-op. I'm also seeing a trend of stalling again around month 5. Most of the March 2017 sleevers I know report stalling about 5 months out.

    It's true that revision patients lose slower -- I made a very conscious decision to throw everything I have at losing wait in the first six months. I started exercising (walking) 2 weeks post-op. At month 5, I'm doing cardio (elliptical) 4x a week, weight training 4x a week and doing yoga 2x a week. My calories are hovering between 800 and 1000 a day. As my weight loss has started to slow a bit, I've just started experimenting with Intermittent Fasting. I figure the harder I work during the "honeymoon" phase, the more likely it is that I'll have good habits to sustain me as I approach goal and maintenance.

    I had my band in 2008 and lost 70lbs. Had the band removed in December 2016 and was sleeved on March 20th, 2017. As of this morning, I've lost 98lbs. 38 pounds until I hit goal!

    Recovery from the band removal was super easy; the VSG recovery wasn't hard, but it definitely was harder than the band placement and removal.

    I’m now 6 days post op and since my last post, I’m still doing fine though I’m nervous about the number of Protein Shakes I need to have beginning tomorrow. I’m only having 1 per day right now and while I’m getting through it ok, I’m not looking forward to having more throughout the days ahead. I’m thinking I’ll sub in the Greek yogurt that’s on the approved list.

    I’m surprised I’m not really hungry, but I have waves. I’ve been able to prepare things for my kids. I did order them a pizza on Thursday while my husband was golfing. I really wanted a taste, but that was all. (And no, I didn’t follow through with it!) I also went to work for a few hours on Thursday and that went well though I was tired.

    My husband I went to costco this AM and it was good. He got a smoothie at the food court and I had a small sip - wish I could have had a taste of pizza. Apparently pizza is my weakness! [emoji23]

    I don't really like eggs, but I've been craving them lately! I have my two week follow up this week, so I think eggs will be on my new food list! (Fingers crossed!)

    6 days post op... and it’s hell. I don’t want shakes or Soup, just Water. I ordered all these Unjury products and can’t stand the taste. 12 pounds down in 6 days but I know I can’t live off water and popsicles. Trying to stay strong.
