  1. i think it's so wierd how all the doctors do it so differently. some doing liquids for weeks, some doing them for only a few days, and etc. i wonder how each doctor decides how he wants his/her post op diet to be.

    forget calories?

i've been paying attention to the protein content (as instructed by my nutritionist) and trying to keep the stuff low cal and low fat and etc. i'm still on mushies but hope that i'm doing it all right.

    is anyone NOT weighing themselves?

since i bought my scale, i've been weighing myself everyday looking for lower numbers. it's like some said... like an obsession of sorts. i wanna see a lower number every morning and sometimes i do and it's great. sometimes i don't and it's a little disappointing but i try not to let it get me down. what i need to do is stop weighing and start exercising. i'm being a little slow about starting on that. i need to get moving!!!!!
  4. i am now 13 days post op and not really have any issues (other than itchy incisions) but i remember the early post op days and i felt that weird "lump in the throat" feeling and feeling like i needed to burp but never was able to. i think that might just be part of how it feels at first. it slowly went away for me and probably will for you, too. it seems like everyday that goes by it gets better and better and you start feeling more normal again. i know that sounds frustrating (one day at a time) cuz i sure thought it did when i was one and two days post op, but it really is true.
  5. you look awesome! you have come so far. i was just banded on 3/12 and my goal is about 150lbs. you are only 1 inch taller than me so i hope i get close to where you are and look as great as you do!!!! you are inspiring!!!!

    1st post op appt!

thanks for the encouragement ya'll! in answer to some questions... i have no idea when my first fill will be. my doc doesn't do any fills til you're at least 6 weeks out so sometime after that i guess. whenever i'm feeling "hungry" enough to need one. as far as putting a tracker on your profile, you can click on other folks' tickers and it will take you to the ticker maker page. then once you make yours you just post the html code into your signature box. your ticker will automatically show your new weight when you update it at the ticker site. the others of ya'll who are around the same time out as me, seem to be doing well, too. yay for us!!! today was my second day of mushies and i'm really enjoying them. it's nice to have some tastes in my mouth again! tonight i had chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes for dinner. pureed of course! but it was still good just the same. although i am worried how the pureed diet will slow weight loss down. guess that's where stepping up that exercise needs to come in.
  7. well, today i had my first post op appointment and it went great. they took out my stitches, told me i'm doing good, and i found out that i'm actually lighter than i thought by about four pounds. apparently my home scale is about four pounds OVER my doc's office scale. so i will keep that in mind for future weighing. all in all i've lost 12 pounds in 12 days. i'm happy with that! i also had meetings with my nutritionist and the therapist and have been moved onto mushies. yay!!!! i immediately came home from the appt and had scrambled eggs. they were great and i filled up on just 2 oz. wow!!! for dinner i had some pureed fish and mashed potatoes. it tasted pretty good after so long of just being on liquids. and once again, full on 2 oz. they did tell me i need to step up my exercise so i'm gonna get working on that. but i'm excited about my progress so far. :Banane20:
  8. so i'm trying to figure out what exercise regimen i wanna start with and wanted to get some opinions. here's the things i'm considering: option 1: joining curves (again). i have been a member there two times in the past but never really went like i was supposed to so i never really saw any results. not to mention that the locations were inconvenient to me. still are kinda although i'm not working right now so i have more free time. has anyone had any real success with it if they go like they are supposed to? option 2: joining the gym (again). i have had a gym membership a few times before but once again didn't go like i should have so didn't really see the best success. the one time i did go religiously and followed my trainers program, i actually gained and gained instead of losing so i just stopped going. i'm kinda torn about joining the gym cuz i'm not sure how i feel about working out with all these strangers around. i don't have a workout buddy. and i've noticed that the "fit" folks at the gym tend to look at the not to fit ones with a judgemental eye and i hate that. and if i join a gym, i'm not sure what kind to go for. snap fitness 24/7? fitnation? fitness lady (local)? the free gym on the base (i'm a air force wife)? option 3: home workouts. i'm already about to get an elliptical and maybe even a treadmill, too. not to mention that i have workout dvd's and plan to add more to the collection. not sure how motivated i will feel about just doing everything at home though. i wanna go ahead and get my plan together for what i'm gonna do and i want input. my husband says i should just hit the gym on base but i feel really wierd about going to workout with a bunch of fit air force folks. especially men! i like the idea of curves but am not sure if i'll ever get real results there. however, at this point i'm not so much looking for awesome results but just something to get me motivated and in the habit of working out again. something that i won't get burned out on or dread going to and lose motivation. i guess you might say i want something "easy" to start with and then move onto harder things but i dunno. i'm so undecided. tell me what ya'll think please!

    curves, gym, or what?

so i think the decision has been made. i'm getting an elliptical for the house along with a handful of new workout dvd's (i love the leslie sansone walk a mile in your living room ones) and going to the gym on base. i loved all ya'll's input and my husband also put in his two cents saying that the base gym is the best option since it's free and easily accessible. so i guess that's what i'll do. :Banane20:
  10. i think i'm starting to fall for mine already and i'm only 12 days out. my reasons are as follows: yes, it's somewhat a pain in the rear so far. however, it does moderate my eating. i know i can't just scarf down a bag of chips or a bucket of chicken or whatever i'm craving. i know i have to eat in moderation or there could be bad repercussions. i can feel it when it "tells" me i'm full. and the feeling of only eating 4 little tablespoons of food but feeling full and satisfied is great. i'm still just shocked that it can work this way. not to mention that i've lost 12 pounds in 12 days. i know things might change as i lose more, get fills, and etc. but for right now i'm really starting to like my band more and more.

    forget calories?

i just had a meeting with my nutritionist today for moving to mushies. yay! one of the other folks in there asked about counting calories and she said nope. we don't have to do that. like the others have said, it's about portion control and eating the right stuff. :Banane20:

    itchy scars

i'm 12 days out, just had my stitches removed today, but my incisions have been itching like mad for days now. my doc said try putting some vitamin E oil on them.
  13. ok.... so this evening i was talking to my husband about my choice to be banded and i was having a worried moment wondering if i made the right decision choosing the band and not the sleeve. i asked my husband what he thought and he kinda looked at me for a minute and then told me this: he said that he honestly couldn't say because he doesn't really get why i wanted the band in the first place. he says he doesn't get why i wanted it, why i thought/think i need it, and why anyone would. he said that he never thought to ask me why i wanted it because i just said that i did and he wanted and is being supportive of my wants and decisions. but that he doesn't get it. he finished with these words, "i really liked my bucket of cheese eating wife." (i LOVE cheese!!!) lol so i was just thinking and wondering... how do other folks spouses feel about the surgery or what do they think about it? my husband doens't think i needed it (still doesn't) and doesn't get it at all but all the while he is supportive of my decision to have it. i told him that i have a made a huge life change and will have a lot more life in me know (meaning i'll be healthier) and he said "you had a lotta life in you before". to that i wanted to say, "yeah... i had a lotta something... FAT!" but i refrained. so anyway... what do ya'll's spouses think and feel about your decision and your new life after?
  14. so... i guess i'm in shock. i mean, i knew that the band was a great thing, but i guess i just didn't realize how quickly it would actually make something happen. my band is not even two weeks old yet and i've already lost 9 pounds! 9 pounds! i'm just like wow! i know that it has a lot to do with me still being on the liquids stage but i'm just so happy to finally see the scale moving and had to share. i was worried that i might get the band and never see anything happen or it'd take forever to see something happen. granted, i haven't noticed anything in the way my clothes fit really yet but the numbers on the scale are moving in the right direction! yay!!!!
  15. so i'm getting close to mushie stage and was tossing around food ideas with my sister this afternoon. talking about that had us talking about foods for later in general and she asked about quesadillas. she knows how much i love quesadillas and how i just got a quesadilla maker at christmas and have only used it like two times. so i'm curious... will i still be able to eat tortillas once i hit regular foods? i mean, flour ones are like bread so i'm thinking that's a no go, but what about corn ones? anyone know anything about eating corn tortillas?? and would it matter if they were white or yellow?
  16. my "moment" was a combination of moments like others have mentioned. like drasan said... i couldn't walk anywhere without panting. especially going up stairs. i was so put out with sounding like i had just done a marathon when i'd only walked from the parking lot into the store! seeing myself in pictures and thinking "omg. look how huge i am!!! when did i get that big? am i really that big?". realizing that i didn't comfortably fit in clothes from my favorite store (old navy) anymore and that the plus size stores were my only options now. hearing my knees pop when i walk. having trouble tying my shoes or reaching over in my car to get something. all the "little" things just added up and then the realization that my insurance would pay for it 100% and what a blessing that was. well... i couldn't just ignore the issues or the opportunity for change. so i went for it!

    Painful Hunger

yeah. for me i think it kinda is like running cramps when it gets real bad. just under my left rib like i have a "stitch" from running or something. how wierd i never thought to describe it that way, but you're right.

    Painful Hunger

i'm 11 days out and feeling "hungry" is painful for me too. when i feel it start coming on i try to get something soon so it doesn't hurt bad. glad to hear this might go away!
  19. ok... so i'm newly banded and have been thinking about my lifechange and etc. like the new diet and exercise regimen and all that. i've got one friend who had a band almost two years ago and she has lost about 80 pounds i think. however, she wasn't super gung ho about it. i mean, she doesn't really work out and only walks occasionally. she eats whatever just in smaller amounts. so i guess she's really not totally following the diet and exercise regimen that our surgeon, nutritionist and etc. want for us to. i've been trying to figure out how "hard core" i'm gonna be about this. i mean, so far it's only been 10 days and i've just been taking it easy during this healing time. been following the liquids stage and breezy walks in the evenings with my husband and kids. i know i'm going to jump on the full blown exercise bandwagon but what i wanna know is how many of ya'll out there really push yourselves and follow a strict diet and exercise and how many of you just kinda take it easy and just eat smaller portions than before (becuase of band restriction of course) and just let that do what it will without really "dieting" so to speak. i mean, i've heard some folks never ever exercise at all! just curious on everyone's take on all that.
  20. my surgeon's team offers a once monthly support meeting for post op folks. everyone (whether they are lapband, sleeve, or gastric bypass) is welcome to attend. the nutritionist is there and so it the therapist. i haven't gone to one yet but i am going to give them a try and see what i think about them. i know some folks never go to them after getting past the "have to" appts pre and post banding but i think i might like the ongoing support. not sure til i try it though. my first post op appointment is tomorrow and i have to go to "classes" before the actual dr visit. i think those are going to be more nutritionist classes for preparing for the mushie stage! yay! i personally find the meeting with the nutritionist and therapist helpful so far.
  21. yes. that's what i'm trying to do. come up with a plan that i can stick to that works best for me. and i was just curious how others approach thier weight loss. i wasn't or am not "contemplating how dedicated i'm going to be on my new journey" as someone else said. i feel like everyone has to figure out what works best for them. i mean, for some it might be working out everyday while for others it might be working out only three times a week. some might find a hard core diet regime works great while others might get burned out on that and have trouble staying "on task" with their weight loss with it. just trying to get opinions and ideas and stuff like that. that's what this website is for, right? everyone to share and ask questions and etc.
  22. this is like what happened to me the week before i got banded! my surgery date was scheduled for friday, march 12 and i came down with an upper respiratory infection the sunday before. they put me on antibiotics and said if i wasn't feeling better by thurs it would be postponed. thankfully i was feeling better and my sugery happened and i'm a bandster now! i hope that you get to feeling better soon and that you get to have your surgery as scheduled. it's miraculous what those antibiotics can do! good luck!

    corn or flour tortillas???

well, maybe corn will work for me then. i sure hope i can still have at least a piece of a quesadilla every now and then! oh and ashley.... that must be hard being able to stomach "bad" things but not others. wow! i bet you gotta have some kinda willpower! i dunno if i'd be able to say no to the big piece of cake if i knew it wouldn't make me sick.

    Head Hunger

i'm ten days out and i have that problem, too. it's like i'm so used to just eating when i'm bored or when i'm watching tv or whatever.l it's like i feel compelled to be eating something when i'm watching tv or when the evening hits my mind is like "ok... time for snacking". it's wierd and i'm fighting it. i mean, i'm still on liquids so a snack for me now isn't all that apppetizing anyway. lol but i feel good about the fact that i know my band will prevent me from going overboard like i would be doing if i didn't have it. like i did before.

    Progress: Caffeine (19 Mar 10)

i, too, feel the band has given me a different brain stomach connection. it's like i do listen to my body now whereas before i just kept on eating cuz it tasted good. now i know when i to stop and i do stop. and i'm still just on liquids. i can't wait to see how well the new "connection" works out when i'm doing mushies and regular foods.
