    After 4 Yrs...i'm Gaining

  2. i was banded in march of 2010. i had gotten down to having lost almost 60 pounds, but had some issues with my band and had to get an unfill back in january. then i didn't go back when i was supposed to and since then have only had one "baby" fill. i've gained some and it's frustrating. i know it's me though as i've gotten back in my old eating habits since i have more "room" to eat these days. i can't eat anywhere near what i did pre-band but i sure can eat. and i love eating.but i'm getting so fed up with not losing anymore. in fact, now it's to where i've only lost 45 pounds since my surgery and it's getting close to the two year mark!! i haven't been exercising at all really or drinking water like i should. making horrible - and i do mean horrible - food choices. everyone says i shouldn't be so hard on myself since i've had so much going on in the past year (stress and etc.) what should i do? how do i get motivated again and stay that way? i got this surgery for a reason and it's not so i could be 190 something for the rest of my life. my goal is 150 and i really wanna get there! any suggestions?

how do i get re-motivated and back on track???

thank you all so much for your responses. i'm really trying to do better and make good choices. i'm getting my husband to help me to work out more and try to motivate me on that end, too. =) now i just need to call and set up a fill appt. i, too, am a little ashamed at being so off track and having gained some back but i know my doctor and his staff and they are so supportive. =)

    Looking for support...

don't give up and don't make yourself feel bad. i was banded on march 12 of 2010 and had lost 58 pounds. i was 32 pounds away from my goal. then life kinda took me by surprise. my special needs son took a major downhill turn. i've been stressed and depressed and every other emotion you can think of. we've had to start traveling every other weekend 7 hours there and 7 hours back and well... it's just been a heck of a ride. i slacked off on my exercising and basically wasn't exercising at all. then i'd start again but it wouldnt' last long. i slacked off on keeping my fill appointments. i started making bad food choices. drinking lots of cokes. then when i did start going to my appts like i was supposed to, my body had too much "mucus" and i had to get an unfill because it was filling up my pouch. i had the unfill in january and since then i've gained back 9 to 10 pounds (it fluctuates day to day). so now i'm back to having lost 49 pounds making me 41 pounds away from my goal. i was feeling really guilty and mad at myself about alll this but my doc said not to. she said "that's why it's call an adjustable band". it can adjust as you need it to, how you need it to. i just called and set up another fill appt. it'll be my first since the unfill in jan. i am ready for it, but at the same time, i will miss being able to eat the way i have been for the past three months. it's worth it though because i don't miss the weight i've lost and i don't miss the asthma that i don't have anymore. there are others, like me, who have "fallen off the wagon" so don't feel alone. i can do this. YOU can do this. having the band is not as easy as people would like to make it out to be. keep your head up. your doctor is there to support you, so let him/her. i often have to remind myself of that. YOU CAN DO IT!!! =)

    Attack of the Icee GAS

did you drink it with a straw? i had some icee but i ate it with a spoon. i also only had fruit flavors and not any of the carbonated drink flavors. it didn't cause me any issues though.
  6. that's awesome!!! Congrats!!!

    March Bandster Updates

from what i hear, we're going to be gassy ladies forever now. so far, the gas pains are gone, but the gas isn't. it's here everyday. sometimes i can't even keep it under wraps which kinda bothers me seeing as how i never farted in front of my husband or anything before. now i can't help it. a friend of mine who is almost two years out still has gas out the wah (pun intended!) and said that it's always an ongoing thing for her and she's just gotten used to it. sigh!!!!

    Obsession

yep. the pureed food wasn't bad at all. they taste pretty much exactly the same as in their solid form only they are mushy. they are good and i have been so glad i've been able to have a variety of tastes again! pureeing is worth at least giving it one or two tries! i put mine in a black and decker mini food processor that i bought at walmart for$7!!! works like a charm!

    Obsession

i think what ya'll are feeling is totally normal. i felt that way, too, before i started mushies. i was soooo ready.i made a list of all the things i could puree to make them mushy and had it ready to go. some things i've enjoyed pureed are: soft meatballs with spaghetti sauce baked chicken breasts with gravy baked fish whole grain hamburger helper (only put in a couple noodles so it was mostly meat with the sauce) taco meat grilled chicken breasts in wine sauce scrambled eggs mashed potatoes

    Fiber Question

i haven't experienced any problems with benefiber yet, but i like the sound of the fiber one having that probiotic in it. i used to take Probiotics in a pill form pre band and was wondering how i could do that post since pills are out. fiber one might be the answer. when i run outta benefiber i might just have to try the fiber one next. thanks betsy!
  11. i don't think you should have to forfeit your lunch just cuz you are a teacher. like everyone else said, you are entitled to the uninterrupted lunch by law and there's nothing wrong with you taking it. and i don't really feel that it's any of the principal's business WHY you need it other than it's medically necessary. it's none of his business what kinda surgery you had. he sounds like a real jerk.

I know s/he meant well, but...

i haven't experienced any sabotage yet. hopefully never will. but i do have some friends and family who "forget" that i'm on a whole new diet and are like "there's some food over there if you wanna eat" and i'm like "i can't" and they are like "oh. i'm sorry.i forgot!". they dont' do it on purpose though and i'm ok with that.

    Fiber Question

Benefiber that's the page of nutrition facts for the stick packs on the benefiber website. they have 15 calories per pack. no sugar. i've been mixing them in my Water mostly and you can't even tell they are there. i've also used them in some of my mushies foods - still can't tell they are there. they also have them in flavors, too, for adding to water. kinda like crystal light or something i guess but with all the fiber in it. i bought mine at target but i know walmart and walgreens carries them, too.

    Fiber Question

i'm sorry. i just checked and i had the brand name wrong. the little packets are made by benefiber (not fiber one). they are still awesome though! i got a packet of like 24 (plus 6 extra for free) for $9.99 at target.
  15. i am two weeks out and started mushies on wednesday. i thought that being on mushies might slow the loss but oddly enough i have lost three pounds since wednesday. i dunno if this is just a fluke or if it will continue but i sure hope it does. i've been getting alot of protein in though. doing lots of scrambled eggs and pureed meats. not sure if that would make a difference, but it might.
  16. i haven't had any fills yet but i'm in the same boat.i can eat about 3 to 4oz and then about two and half to three hours later i start feeling hungry again. does this mean i'll be ready for a fill when i can get one? my doc doesn't do fills until at least 6 weeks out and i'm only two weeks out so far.

    Fiber Question

why don't you use those fiber one packets you put in water? they really do dissolve completely and you can't even tell they are there! i'm really picky about tastes and stuff especially when adding something to water or something else. but you really can't tell they are there! the box says three is the amount an adult would need for adequate daily fiber. you can add them to four ounces of water or more. i just pour them in a water bottle or in my tea and wah la! they are awesome!

    March Bandster Updates

i got my band on march 12. stayed overnight in the hospital (insurance requirement) but glad i did because that first night was rough. actually the first week was pretty rough. but i'm doing pretty good now. had my first post op appt yesterday (wednesday) and it went well. i've lost 12 pounds so far and was moved onto mushies. they are going down fine but i do find myself getting hungry in between meals. trying to step up my exercise to walking at least 30 min everyday. then once i get that going well, gonna try that couch to 5k thing. have decided our family is gonna participate in a walk for autism awareness that's coming up on april 17. family doesn't know about it yet, but i'll tell them tomorrow. lol it's gonna be fun!!!!

    What is "pbing"?

i think i experienced this for the first time yesterday. yesterday was my first day on mushies and after my appt i came right home to have some scrambled eggs. i didn't eat them overly fast but i did notice that at one point, i burped and felt a bit try to come back up. it seemed to settle back in there again though and all was well. thank goodness!

    ? popped port stitch?

all this sounds rather "scary". i mean, wouldn't it hurt if the port flipped over? can you feel it when it does the flip?

    Couch to 5k-Joggers!

wow! can you believe i'd never even heard of this program til i saw this post? i just googled it and checked it out and it looks like a really cool program. and it seems like it would be simple enough in the beginning for folks like me who soooo are not used to running. i'm barely two weeks post banding so i'm not sure how my doc feels about me running but they did tell me to step up my exercise. i just tried "jogging" around my house and it hurt my port incision a little bit. so i think i might wait a little longer to start this program, but i am definitely gonna give it a shot. even see if my husband wants to do it with me! til then, i guess i'll just step up my walking!

What do you eat for lunch?

that mexican crockpot chicken sounds great. thanks for sharing the recipe! i'm still on the mushie phase and only on day 2 of that so i don't really have much to offer on my lunch ideas yet. sorry.
  25. so.... i'm four days out (banded on march 12) and the last time i weighed was on march 8 or 4 days BEFORE my surgery. we recently moved and the scale was lost in the move. my husband says he knows where it is but usually that means it's really lost. lol so i haven't bought another one yet and am not sure if i want to. i kinda like the idea of not focusing on what the scale says but rather on how i feel and how my clothes fit. i'm going to be weighed by my doc's office at my post op visit on march 24 (7 days from now). i have no clue how much i weigh right now or if i've lost anything since surgery. while i do wanna know if i'm losing i also don't really wanna get focused on a number. is anyone else not weighing except at the doctor? what are ya'll's thoughts on this?:scared2:
