banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
My very best friend (other than my husband) came to visit me at work today, my short description of him is a 72 year old, republican, baptist, man. We have nothing in common, we agree on nothing philosophical but I love him to pieces. I cant describe how much he means to me. He has not been feeling well for a few weeks and was in the hospital last week for 4 days and I thought he was doing better. But when he came over today he told me that his kidney Dr told him that if his numbers weren't better by next week they wanted him to do dialysis. He told me that he wasn't going to. He had a heart transplant 15 years ago and he said he is just tired. I am so sad. OK we do have something in common, we will not allow anyone to boss us around. If he says no to the dialysis, there is no talking him into it, come hell or high water. Maybe he will change his mind on his own by next week, I don't know.... (If there were a crying face, I would put it here)

Dr. John Groves - Why the wait?
As hard as it is I would wait at least 3 weeks between fills. I have had one "kick in" 10 days later. I went from no restriction at all to sweet spot, if I had gotten another fill I would have been too tight.

How much weight have you lost?
Good luck.

Bandster hell..... ok so what do I do?
Can you eat tuna? A can of tuna in Water is 100 calories. I eat them for a snack between meals when I am really hungry. Try this: Breakfast: 1 fried egg 92 cal. 1 piece of bacon 43 cal. 1 whole wheat bagel thin (on the bread isle) 110 cal. Snack: Greek yogurt 140 cal. Lunch: 1 can of tuna 100 cal 1 TBSP Miracle whip free 13 cal. 1/2 TBSP Pickle relish 10 cal. 8 snack crackers 121 cal. Snack: Apple 81 cal. Dinner: 4 oz baked whitefish 132 cal. 3 oz baked potato 79 cal. 1 TBS butter 36 cal. 1/2 cup steamed broccoli 27 cal. I hope this helps give you some fresh ideas. These things keep me full the longest.

Let's be honest....please!
The OP joined us on 03/09 posted 6 times in an hour about how this didn't work for her and has never signed back on. I am going to take this with a grain of salt, I believe there are people who are so anti-WLS that they will make false claims of failure in the hopes of discouraging others. I want to state, that is not the case on every thread, there are people here who have legitimate problems and concerns but I feel this thread was started by someone with an agenda. However, if they were trying to discourage others, it backfired because there are a lot of great responses to the post filled with wonderful advice.

Attracting women.
My husband is overweight and we can not go anywhere without women hitting on him. We went to a wedding last weekend and I went to get a glass of wine and looked back at the table and a woman was practically sitting in his lap (or trying to). I am with your friends, its all attitude.

Does thr port stick out
Tracie-- I'm glad that made you smile, my port sticks out, you can see it and you can feel it. But I guess I just feel like its a part of me now. There are low profile ports that they can change you to later when you are at goal and you don't need regular fills anymore. Sometimes they even move it behind your bellybutton if you have a tummy tuck. I have made an agreement with myself not to make any decisions about what to do on port revision or tummy tuck until I have been at goal for at least 6 months to a year. That will give me a chance to get use to how things are and see if they really bother me. The boobs, now that, is another story....

set back :(
Try water aerobics, the water supports your body while you exercise. Plus the water gives extra resistance.

I have my band semi-loose, I can eat anything but untoasted white bread and oddly enough, bananas.

Do you only eat three meals a day?
I eat 3- 250 calorie meals and have 2- 150 calorie snacks. If I only eat 3 meals I get too hungry and then overeat at meal time.

Did I miss "the time to pick on Denise" post? Seriously Denise you are one of the nicest people on this site and give great advice. So ignore all the haters! We love you. BTW-- I guess I am bulimic too! Shammah-- Your going to be rich and skinny! You can buy new clothes with your promotion money! I wanted to tell everyone thanks for the picture complements. :grouphug:

to band or not to band.....
HA! :grouphug::lol: That is the funniest way I have heard it described.

i think i officially had my first real PB...yuck!
Bending at the waist and going "bleach" and expelling a mucus plug is not the same as "tossing their cookies". No food is expelled, which would be necessary for it to be a bulimic behavior. When I slime, I get a mucus plug that covers the top of my pouch and puts me in distress. It can last as much as a day if left alone. BTW-- I have worked in the car business for 10 years but that doesn't make me a mechanic.

Stop using the f word!!
Almost every post I have read today someone is using the F word. Failure. Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. Theodore Roosevelt Believe you can and you're halfway there. Theodore Roosevelt

I'm at my lowest
I think its a matter of perspective. Your 19 so 6 months is 1/38th of your life and seems like a long time, now if you were 40 like me it would be 1/80th and 6 months goes by in the blink of an eye! So the moral of my story is you need patience. At this rate you will be at BMI of 22 about 18 months after surgery! There is nothing wrong with that! Just take it a day at a time. Your doing good. And now for my new favorite statement "Stop using the F word!"
-
Am I just odd?
Maybe the rest of us fixate on fills too much? Congrats!

The dietitian
I have not seen a dietitian before or after surgery. If you feel you need one and don't like theirs you can hire one on your own. Remember, when you are dealing with a bully the best defense is a good offense. Snap on him and he will act better. EX: I do not appreciate your ________ (fill in the blank with the appropriate choice, tone, attitude, etc.) I am paying your salary and I expect to be treated with respect. If you are not capable of that I will have to replace you. ((Square up your shoulders, straighten your back and STARE at him with a frown  and do not speak or look away until he reacts, he will back down, I promise.))

Feeling like a total failure.
I am going to challenge you to name another time where you were 47 pounds lighter than you were the year before. Especially since you now have the ability to keep it off. You have been banded for 3/4 of a year at 47 pounds so at that rate your going to be down about 60 for the year. That is a pound a week and nothing to be ashamed of! How many people do you personally know, other than you, that are on track to lose 60 this year? (Non-WLS people) I don't know any. Everyone I know personally, that have not had any type of WLS, are either the same or fatter than they were last year. I think you need to do what I call a reality check. Find a pre-op picture of yourself. Take a current picture in the same pose and put them side by side. You will be amazed at the difference. I think we are just so use to living inside ourselves that we lose perspective. Your doing great! Just keep working on your choices and exercise when you can. And quit using the F word!
