need your advice - on solid food and gaining weight
I gained weight on mushies and was starving as well. Then I started eating meat and getting fills and I started losing 2 pounds a week. Don't worry it will get better. And on a side note, I never raise my ticker. I consider any weight gain as "bounce" those pounds are so new they will be easy to get rid of its those really old pounds that are 20 years old that are hard!

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor -Looking for some tough love.
I started journaling because one day pretty soon after I was banded I was complaining to my husband that I wasn't losing but I was doing everything right and he was like "um, not really". I was lying to myself about how much and what I was eating and having to enter it in the computer really helped me face reality. Have you decided where you are going to journal? Web site? Phone app? I have to eat breakfast, hunger is my enemy if I every get hungry I stay that way for the rest of the day so I eat every 3 hours. I agree about starting the metabolism. You should call the Dr now for a fill, what if it takes a couple of weeks for an appointment and you wait till your ready and he's not! Waiting sucks. You paid for the band, you should use it. Who cares if he is unhappy with your progress, he's not your dad. I did pretty well last week. I have been doing the C25K program, unfortunately I have found that if I want to lose this last 10 I am going to have to work it off. I tried eating more on the days before I ran but it just made me gain 2 pounds so I went back to my regular calories and just ate 4 crackers and Peanut Butter before I went to bed and that gave me the energy to run. I have to run in a few hours and I am concerned because I wanted to eat extra before I went to bed but I couldn't. But the good news is I was 140.0 yesterday so maybe today I will be 139.something today. I am only losing a pound every 10 days or so. Its really hard to be patient for that long. I just have to really divide it up to one pound at a time. I am going to a software training class and its a 6 hour drive away so I am going later today and spending the night which means eating out for a day and a half. Which is not good for me, I rarely eat out. By the way, when you say that starting next week your going to eat breakfast does that mean your starting on Monday? I find its helpful to use specific days to start things instead of vague terms like next week. For instance instead of saying "I am going to run week 8 of C25K this week" I say things like "I am running week 8 of C25K on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday of this week." Then I cant put it off till tomorrow. Its Sunday so I got to run. So I am putting you on the spot. What day are you going to start breakfast? and What day are you going to start journaling? I think those 2 things should be your goals for this week. (Of course that is just my opinion.) I hope you have a good weekend.

Not one more bite!
I consider myself an organized hoarder. And I do it with food. :smilielol5: I have found that I can put it back in the refrigerator instead of the trash, even if its only one bite and this helps me tremendously.

I'm in Surgery Hell.
You poor baby! I wish I were there, I would mother on you. I have tears in my eyes reading your post but you did a good thing! It may be a rough start but you are going to be so happy. Plus your just 23, boy I wish I had this when I was 23, its going to make your life so much easier. Think happy thoughts, a positive outlook helps so much. A few weeks of liquids is so much better than a life time of being obese. You can do it. I promise.

How important are the rules really?
Encouraging others to disregard their Dr's advice is irresponsible. If you want to jeopardize your health that is your option but to promote it to others is wrong. People who are newly banded might read these posts and think that if you did it they should as well and harm themselves. Just because you didn't have immediate effects doesn't mean that you didn't harm yourself, only time will tell. And quite frankly, on this forum, you get what you project. If you project attitude, you get it back. Just like in real life, if you show up at a social event and start calling people names, it usually doesn't go that well for you, the same thing happens here.

Is this a joke? WTH is going on?!
Gloria-- Here is a link to a study that was released about the sleeve. If I lost my band, I would have the sleeve revision. Of course, just because that is what I would do doesn't mean its what you should, we each have to find our own way, but I thought you might like to see the studly. Initial Outcomes Following Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy in 292 Patients as a Single-stage Procedure for Morbid Obesity | Bariatric Times Good luck.

I think I may have given up....
I know those last few pounds are monsters! Here is my trick, I use this no matter what I am doing, running, dieting, etc. I try for one more. "I don't know if I can do 10 more but I know I can do one more. I know I can ________1 more ______. Then I will decide what to do from there." I just substitute whatever I am struggling with "I can run 1 more minute" "I can lose 1 more pound" "I can do the liquid diet 1 more day" I hope this helps.

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
Bobbie-- Try and not eat at your desk, I know this sounds weird but if I eat sitting at my desk I get stuck, I don't leave for lunch but I go and sit at a table where I cant see my work because it makes me stressed. Christie and Bob-- Its nice to see new pics of y'all! Plus Karen has a new one in the photo section in case anybody missed it. Crystl-- I have hair envy too. My frickin hair is fine and thin and has to be washed every.single.day and is still stringy. Denise-- I'm sorry about your family troubles, I wish there were something we could do other than wish you peace. I am not losing, these last 10 pounds are a nightmare. I had started eating more on the days before I ran so that I have the energy to make it and I gained 2 pounds. So I started being very strict with calories during the day and then before I go to bed I eat 4 crackers with Peanut Butter for energy the next morning (keeping my calories at 800) and that seems to give me enough energy to make the run. Tomorrow I have to run 28 min. I barely made the last 25 min run but I'll try.

I am a CHEATER
Once again, each surgeon is different. If yours gives you instructions on following a diet after surgery its because he knows how he installed the band. I know for a fact that my Dr stitches the stomach around the band, and then you are on a liquid diet because of that. Maybe your Dr doesn't and thats why you can eat immediately, however, implying that its OK for Regina to ignore her Dr's instruction just because your Dr is different is doing her a disservice. Regina, I'm sure the little bit of chicken soup didn't hurt you but I think it is the best plan for you to follow your Dr's directions until you are healed. Even if there is just a 1 in a 1000 chance that something could happen to the band I think that is too much of a risk. Good luck and remember a few weeks of bandster hell is better than a lifetime of being fat. (Thats what I told myself to get through it.)

Frustrated as hell
My Dr gave me a ton of free sample Vitamins. If you tell the office people you cant afford them I bet they will give them to you free if they have them. My Mom has Parkinson's the Dr office knows that she has very limited income and they get her most of her meds on samples. Talk to the Dr.

I am a CHEATER
Your band is stitched in place, when you eat food your stomach contracts and can loosen the stitches leading to a slipped band. The liquid diet is not a "diet" so you lose weight its a health precaution. I cant stress it enough that you have to follow your Dr's instructions.

Couch to 5k.....come join me!!
Thanks, Suzanne Liftingchic--Showoff! Seriously, I'm jealous. I struggled through every week. I could barely run for 60 seconds when I started. I finished week 7 today, I got lucky and it was cloudy. I finished the 5K in 40:43, so another minute off my time, that is a total reduction of 3:16 off my 5k time in 1 week! I will start week 8 which has 28 min of running instead of 25 so I should be below 40 min next week. ETA: I also adjusted my eating, the eating 1200 before I run was causing me to gain so I ate very carefully yesterday and then before bed I ate 4 crackers with 1 1/2 TBSP of Peanut Butter and I ran fine today with eating 788 calories yesterday.

Lower BMI'er weight loss
I read a recent study on a government health website that stated low BMIers get the best results from the band. That being said, the lower your weight gets the slower it is to come off. I started at 2 pounds a week and I am down to 1 pound every 10 days. But I figure these last 10 pounds have been with me so long they don't want to leave without a fight.

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
I have a confession: Hi my name is Leigha and I have become a weight-loss snob. I have been snarky to the newly banded, I have been rolling my eyes at the confused and I have been snickering at the plateaued. I am throughly ashamed of myself. I guess it started with seeing posts that are the same as last weeks, but the person who wrote it wasn't here last week so how can I expect them to know? I was newly banded once, I was confused and I was plateaued and nobody treated me like that. So I am going to make a commitment to try and help as many as I can even if they ask the same questions that have been asked to death, even if after I offer help they refuse it with a "yeah, but". I am going to be nice and positive even if they aren't. (Betsy is the best at this.) Thank you for listening....

Losing my mind
I vote no on the liquid diet. If that were the answer I could have saved $10K and just did that! I think your body has gotten use to the 10K steps and doesn't consider it exercise anymore. Your probably going to have to do something that gets your heart rate up. Dancing, swimming, biking, etc. I reached that point too, where walking just wasn't doing anything for me. I started running with C25K and I am losing slowly (1 pound every 10 days or so) I think that this band life is a progression, as soon as you think you have it figured out, you have to change something. Good luck.

Fear of not losing
You don't have any help yet, the band without fill is like a car without gas. Relax, practice your new eating skills (if you are on food yet), small bites, eat slowly, chew, chew, chew and start walking if your not already. Everyone went through this, as a matter of fact I gained weight before my first fill. Then I started getting help from the band and lost 2 pounds a week until I had the last 15 and now only a pound every 10 days or so. It will be fine, practice your band skills and it will be fine.

What happens when your exercise equals out?
Mimi-- For the last month I have only been losing about a pound every 10 days so it will take a while to see if I am still losing. Patience is not my virtue, however its the only way to know in this case so I guess I will wait it out. Suzanne--GB as in gastric bypass?

Mad as H-E-!-!-
Sometimes you just have to vent! I'm glad your feeling better. Its also in my nature to be irritated when something isn't done exactly as I expected but I bet you Dr added the saline based on your personal anatomy. Maybe because you don't have a fatty liver or a lot of stomach fat that allowed him to give you a head start.

What happens when your exercise equals out?
Yes I have tried the run on my normal 800-900 calories and I cant make it. So I have been bumping it up to 1100- 1200 on the day before I run.
