  1. Oh wow! That is surprising. i was expecting maybe 3-6 months. I had no idea it would be about a year. Definitel helps. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me.
  2. How long did it take from your initial consultation until your surgery? What did you have to do? I know it depends on surgery but what type of clearances can I expect? I know psych evals but how else do they follow you?
  3. I'm 26 in NY though. I work as a nurse too. I'm familiar with the surgery but not before and afterward. It's really what happens after with the complication and what you can and cannot eat. I've been overweight my entire life and I really need to do something. I get so excited that this may be able to help me. Then unfortunately I come here and people are posting about sliming and such and I yes, it's a very real complication that can occur. But kinda puts me off to the procedure. Should I give WW another try? Should I workout with a personal trainer? Or should I really consider this surgery? I haven't even been to my consultation, but I've done a lot of reading about the procedure and this is what goes through my head all day long.
  4. I know it won't be easy and it's not a quick fix. I'm just not sure if surgery is the correct option for me. I've been checking out LAP-BAND®.com and browsing through this site for information. I know two people from work who have had the procedure but I'm not sure if I'm ready to let others now how seriously I'm considering this, especially at work. I've been on popular diets. On weight watchers I slacked too much. On Jenny I got too tired of the foods. I even had a personal trainer. I've been to a seminar held by the physician I'd go to. He does the procedure at two hospitals, one of which I work at. I'm familiar with the procedure and immediate post-op care first hand. It's everything before and everything after. Especially after I'm worried about. I'm going to the seminar to get more information on a patient level, not nursing level and hopefully meet people who have had the surgery. Most likely I will book my consultation there and talk to the Doctor one on one about my fears and really find out if I'm a good candidate.
  5. I'm 26 years old and I have been battling my weight for pretty much my entire life and I have spent most of my adult life as obese. As of now I am not 100% sold on the surgery but I will attend the seminar on January 12, 2010. I'm worried about post-op complications and rigid diet restrictions. It's hard to loose weight and nearly impossible to keep it off with traditional diets. I don't know if what I said made sense exactly but it seems overwhelming especially having not been successful before. I'm a little familiar with the surgery because I work in a hospital that performs the procedure. I'm just not sure it's the right choice for me but there's no way to know without educating myself. My husband doesn't understand what I go through because he loves me unconditionally. He will go to the seminar with me but doesn't think I would even qualify for the surgery. So far he is the only person I mentioned the surgery to.
