About Me

Hi everyone!  I am a pre-op patient.  My surgery is in less than 2weeks.  I am excited and nervous at the same time.  Well, my story goes like this:  I am a 33yo female, married to a supportive husband.  I have been heavy all my life but the weight I am at now is the heaviest (I will disclose my weight once it is lost).  My weight has been a struggle for most of my life but it never held me back on things until recently.  I have noticed that walking has been difficult, I have been short of breath, and concerns of fitting in a chair.  Also, I just had a wake up call.  My father had a stroke in the beginning of October.  He has blood pressure issues and is a diabetic.  Currently he is paralyzed on the left side of his body.  Then, about eight years ago my mother passed away from uterine cancer. She was also a diabetic.  So, right there, I knew I had to do something.  The thought of gastric bypass surgery was always on my mind but I thought the surgery was way too invasive and it wasn't for me.  So I always tried dieting but I always gained back what I lost and then some.  Then I started to see commercials for the Lap Band and started to read more about it.  I was iffy about the idea because it was still surgery.  I went to my PCP and she suggested some sort of bariatric surgery. So, after that the thought really stuck in my head and I thought to myself "s**t, I am fat!"  My doctor is suggesting surgery?  I knew it was time to do something.  Not only because of my doctor but what my mother went through and what my father is going through. I want to live and be healthy!  So here I am, waiting for the day and wondering what my new life will be like.  I cannot picture myself thin and fit but I can't believe its finally going to happen!
