    day 2 post opt

Sounds like you are doing great! The more walking you can do the quicker the gas will pass and the quicker you will fell yourself. Have your son hug you very gently. I have a 2 yr old..I wasn't able to pick him up for a month..he weighs 38 lbs...so believe me I know how horrible it feels. He always had to be sat on me. He wanted to be "doctor" so he kept pulling up my shirt and examining the boo boos and seeing if they were getting better. LOL Keep taking good care of yourself!!

AUGH! why am i getting stuck!?

I think another reason they tell you "no shakes" is that they don't want you to only drink shakes, they want you to eat food to get your protein. However, they do realize that sometimes you might be tighter in the morning and you can only get a shake down and as the day progresses you can eat more. I agree with the above posts...you have to test foods..some bodies just take a while to accept certain foods and sometimes what you could eat today you can't eat tomorrow..it is just part of the journey. As Gorda said..protein shakes and bars..they will be part of your new life.

November 09 Knockouts! Check in here POST surgery! :)

Hello Ladies! My four month anniversary is the 23rd of March and as of this morning I am down 62 lbs. This has been such a learning process. I have met so many wonderful people from this website it has been incredible. I wouldn't trade my band for anything. I currently have 6cc's in my 10cc band. I am self pay and see my doctor monthly and will for the first year (abuse him were his words...I think he was even more upset than I was that the insurance didn't pay). I hope everyone has an awesome day!!
  7. I would love to help you with your journey! You can always reach me at dsmith16@tampabay.rr.com
  8. Yolly I am 4 months out and have had no problems. I have lost 62 lbs so far. I would love to help you as well. You can contact me at dsmith16@tampabay.rr.com I do agree that it was hard to figure out what the signs were at first what "full" felt like but then there were different indicators that really worked for me...hiccups (main one for me)..portion control (how much did I really need to satisfy my hunger and last me until the next meal (and what foods was I eating).

    Anyone banded around 10-14-09?

Hi everyone..I was banded on 11/23/9 as of this morning I was down 63 lbs (15 lbs of that was pre-op) although my tickler isn't updated. For dinner I kind of eat whatever..we do family meals however since I have been banded those meals have been a lot more healthier. My mom keeps bringing pizza on her night to cook (my parents live with us) and I keep trying to remind her pizza isn't all that great for me so we kind of argue over that so I eat a couple bites of it and a salad..so i don't deprive myself of anything that might cause a craving but for breakfast and lunch I am very good and very strict. I also cannot live without an afternoon snack. My exercise is walking and chasing a 2 year old. Also, just FYI for anyone who might have noticed that Yoplait just came out with Greek yogurt...if you try Chobani..you cannot switch to Yoplait, I actually had to throw it out. Chobani is awesome!!!

Sorry! But I have to ask....BM's

Benefiber is awesome..it doesn't have a taste or an aftertaste nor is it gritty. You can mix it in any type of drink..put up to 2 tsps into your drinks up to 3 times a day..you will be regular. This will help after you are banded and you want to cut out pills.

Sick & Tired. In that order. Literally...

You could just have a bug..the stomach flu has been going around here. An increase in fruits could also cause you to be a little more fluid in your bowels as well or at least they do me (fresh fruit anyway).

    ten thousand questions????????????

eventually you will learn to make smaller portions for yourself. use smaller plates to begin with. It has taken me until now (almost 4 months) to quit having the thought "oh I want one more thought". I get the hiccups when I am full..then I do not eat any more. I know I will get some slashing for this but I have eaten pizza a couple of times..probably 3 slices total..(1 piece at 3 different servings) thin crust. Long story short but my husband and I recently purchased my parents house..but they didn't move out..so we all live together and my 7 yr old niece moved in also..we have a 2 yr old..so now we have 6 people in the family. We all eat the same meal. My parents are the ones addicted to pizza believe it or not. My niece and I say NO MORE PIZZA and here my mom comes home with more!! LOL. Your taste buds change...once you get banded you will see it is the best decision you will ever make!!!
  15. I was banded on 11/23 and I am down 58 lbs..so follow the rules, get your fills, walk, and anything can happen! :-)

    pain?

I felt that it was very similar to having a c-section. If you use that same procedure of getting up & down/sitting up you will be fine. Also, take the pain medication. The quicker you get up and walk as well as the more you walk the quicker you will feel better and feel you self again. I have a two year old...so I wasn't able to lift him for 30 days (he weighs 39lbs). Other than that I was back to work in 1 week.

The Fat Mommy [@ the playground]

I know exactly what you are talking about!! My son is 2 1/2 and is 39 lbs and 38 inches..he has always been at the 98 percentile on the charts and was 9 lbs when he was born..he isn't fat but most do not believe he is 2...but when you see him eat and I am around..you get those looks. I had seen articles prior to being banded about kids who were embarrassed or ridiculed about thier mothers sizes, I swore then I was going to do something--it was kind of like the icing on the cake for me.

When does it become a lifestyle not a diet

I started out after surgery saying this is not a diet this is a lifestyle change. I obeyed all of the rules..liquids to mushies and so forth but when I was able to move on to regular foods I ate and still do everything I want. I have a 10cc band and have had 2 fills for a total of 5 ccs. I do have restriction but I also get hungry sometimes. My indicator is I get the hiccups when I am full. I also watch my portions to a point..I just can't eat that much..so no weighing or measuring. I do make sure I get a minimum of 60 grams of protein in a day. I am not a huge breakfast eater and I am at work by 6am in the morning so I do have a protein shake for breakfast..other than that no one would know that I am "watching" what I eat besides I eat very slowly, I do not drink with my meals and I do not eat much (compared to them). I have a family of 6..we all eat the same meal..I don't cook differently for me. I was afraid that if I "dieted" now that when I reached goal and changed the way I ate..I would gain my weight back. My dr knows my "plan" and thinks I am doing the right thing and he is very restrictive. I do not eat sweets. I did give up coffee..I only had one cup a day..my taste buds changed and I don't like it any more. I drink SF hot chocolate instead. Fast Food..I will eat Wendy's chili but I prefer homemade chili. This is what works for me..

    Mother Nature vs. The Band

I thought I was going to perform surgery yesterday and yank out my ovaries...not sure if it was the band of what. I am on my 2nd fill and I have never had cramps like that!!! Something had to give and I am not giving up my band!!! Cravings..I gave into a two very small handfulls of cashews. I thought that was ok..but the cramps..we will see how next month goes!

Submit claim to insurance AFTER surgery??

Outside--from what I am learning from my insurance company..it is best that you do have the doctor's office file the claim. As I have mentioned before I am self pay also trying to see if they will reimburse me for anything. So far thier (the ins co) biggest complaint is "why wouldn't the Dr file his own claim?" Also, the Dr, the hosp and the anes all three gave me three different claims...so I don't think I would have gotten them all to file thier own. I have my fingers crossed..no rejection yet but I am not expecting anything either.
