Emory Lapbanders?
I'm not going to Emory either, but I'm here if you need to talk. I've only got another week and I thought I'd be a lot more nervous than I am.

Do I tell or do I keep it a secret???
I've told everybody in my life. Mainly because I'm just so excited, but also because I really don't care if they support me or not. This is me, this is what I want and I don't need anyone else to validate what I'm doing for my own health and vanity.

Any September 2010 bandsters to be out there?
That's one of my worries too. I know my ticker says that I've lost 8 lbs, but that's 8 lbs from my heaviest a couple of months ago. Since I've been on my pre-op diet for a week now, I've only lost two lbs. I too see where everyone else has lost a lot more during the liquid diet phase and it's very discouraging when you can barely lose 2 lbs. I've been weighing myself on a freight scale here at work, and today, I just don't even want to go out there.

Surgery date - 9/28/10
Good luck! We have the same surgery date :smile:

Any September 2010 bandsters to be out there?
I'm going to try to go this last week without cheating. I know it will make the surgery safer and it's definitely encouraging to see others doing it too.

Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
Wow! That's really encouraging.

Any September 2010 bandsters to be out there?
Are there two September threads? My surgery date is September 28th and I'm on day six on my liquid diet. It's really hard and I'm soooo hungry. I've cheated a few times and had a small bowl of soup, but otherwise, I'm really sticking with it.

Stoked in Georgia!
I will definitely continue with the support meetings. Not only do I think they're beneficial, my surgeon's office requires their patients to attend at least 8 of them during the year after surgery.

Stoked in Georgia!
That's great! Isn't it exciting? Will you have to do a 2 week liquid diet too?

Fees not covered by insurance???
I'm in GA too, but my fee is only $150.

Gave pre0op a try with terrible result
I'm using CIB until the Unjury I ordered arrives and I got that way by the third day and had to eat some soup. Since then, I make sure I don't let myself get so empty. I am also allowed to eat cottage cheese and yogurt a couple of times a day and that really helps too. The cottage cheese with a little salt and pepper really breaks things up when you get sick of all the sweet shakes too.
-
Carnation Instant Breakfast anyone?
My surgeon's office gave me two different diets to choose from and one is the CIB. It's 5 shakes made with 2% milk each day, plus juice, cottage cheese, gatorade, yogurt, and sugarfree jello/pudding cups in between. Example: Breakfast: 8 oz shake and 4 oz juice(not mixed together and I wait about 30 minutes before I drink the juice) 10:00: AM 8 oz shake and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese Lunch: 8 oz shake and 6 oz cup of yogurt 3:00 PM:8 oz shake and 8 oz gatorade Dinner: 8 oz shake Once a day I can have 1/2 cup of broth and all day I can have Crystal/Wyler's Light, sugar free Jello, coffee or tea with splenda and Water. Honestly, I haven't been drinking as many shakes as I should and I got really weak and nauseated yesterday and ended up having to cheat at lunch. I only ate a cup of won ton Soup, but I felt really guilty. I'm only doing the CIB until the unjury that I ordered arrives and then I'll stay with that one.

Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
I'm on day three now and I am starving too. I think I am going to cheat this afternoon and have some won ton soup for my lunch. I just don't see how you guys are doing this for the whole two weeks. I already feel kind of weak. I'm still running a low grade fever, but I am hoping to kick it by this weekend.

Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
I went for my pre-op today. I weighed 224.5. I really thought it would be a little more than that, so I was relieved. Right now, I'm scheduled for 2:15 PM on the 28th, but they said they were trying to work me in earlier and to be prepared to arrive around 10:00 AM. My only concern was that I had a fever of a little over a hundred degrees when I first got there, but I had them take it again before I left and it was back to normal. She said if the blood tests showed an infection of some kind, I might have to put the surgery off. Has this happened to any of you?

Stoked in Georgia!
Thank you all for the well wishes! I went for my pre-op visit today and it all seemed to go well. The only thing that got me a little worried was that I had a fever a little over a hundred. I don't feel sick though and it was pretty hot outside today.

Stoked in Georgia!
Hey neighbor! Good luck on your journey too! I began this process almost a year ago when I went to my seminar on 9/19/2009. I can't believe it's finally going to happen for me. It's like I'm walking around in daze because I'm so excited and happy that I'll finally get the help and accountability that I desperately need.

How long are you taking off?
I'm planning to have my surgery on a Tuesday and going back to work the next Monday. I will probably try to fix it so I am able to do some work from home if everything goes as well as I expect it to. I really wanted to do the surgery on a Thursday and go back to work the next Monday, but my surgeon said I would need the extra two days.

Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
My pre-op visit is on Monday, 9/13. I start my liquid diet on 9/14. Surgery will be on Tuesday, 9/28. I am really excited about this thing!

Stoked in Georgia!
My surgery date is finally set! I did my six month diet and finally got everything settled with all of my doctors and the insurance. I'll be having my surgery on Tuesday, 9/28/2010.

Stoked in Georgia!
Today I am a little discouraged. I had it in my head that I'd be able to get the surgery some time around late January or early February. During my appointment with the dietitian yesterday, she informed me that my insurance is requiring a 6 month medically supervised diet before I can get the surgery. I was aware of the diet and assumed I'd have to provide documentation, but I was under the impression that it had to be within the last three years. The last time I did a diet like that was just over two years ago at the Versalo Clinic. UHC, however, is not accepting that and is making me start over. Now it's going to be May before I can even think of getting my band.

Stoked in Georgia!
I had my psychiatric evaluation this past Monday. I had no idea there was a 4 hour test involved! Anyway, it's just one step closer to getting my surgery date.

United Healthcare Denial?
For those of us with UHC, it's not always a bad company to deal with. So far, I've had a very good experience with them. I have United Health Care and a bmi of 36 to 37 with a couple of co-morbities(sp?). I went to my seminar 9/19, saw my primary care physician on 10/3, asked for and received the referral for lapband surgery that day. Within a week, he had most of my pre op tests scheduled and my surgeon's office called to tell me that my insurance was approved to pay 90% with no deductible. I am certain that if I wanted to go ahead and push through all of my appointments quickly, I could have the surgery within a few weeks. I'm too chicken to do that though. I know this will be the last year I am able to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas food, so I am waiting until the first of the year.

stranger in a strange land
Hey Stranger! I can totally empathize with you about the Korean culture and being overweight. I am in the states, but I work for a large Korean company. They always assume that the heavier a person is, the more lazy they are. I don't have my band yet, but my insurance has approved it and I am currently undergoing all the pretests. This is the best site I've found that can answer most, if not all, of my questions. At this point, nothing and nobody could talk me out of having the surgery.
-
Stoked in Georgia!
I was really surprised at how fast I got the approval too. I worried that my primary care physician wouldn't even give me the referral because he's very overweight himself. Instead of downing me for wanting this procedure, he actually understood and said he'd help me as much as he could. Within a week, I had my referral and all my pretests scheduled. I also had no idea that I'd find a surgeon on my side of town(Stockbridge), but when I searched for a seminar to attend, he was the only one that popped up! I've been very lucky!

How hard is not drinking with meals
I'm already practicing and it's not too bad.
