  1. Those fatty cats are the most adorable and the most comical even though their health is compromised. Our big cat was the sweetest and the funniest creature. We knew that his weight was not a good thing and we were working hard to get it down. That damn cat hardly moved and certainly didn't play. We bought a radio controlled mouse which the skinny cat loved. I always sensed that he wouldn't make for old bones. But he was big - not 30 lbs, yikes! - but we did have to build him a special over-sized kitty poop box out of a plastic trunk that we bought at either Zeller's or Walmart. LOL
  2. We are kinda handicapped when it comes to pissing off the insane neighbour. We are just not as nasty as he is. And he has made us his full-time project and so will work on us morning, noon, and night. The dude doesn't sleep. He only catnaps. He has encouraged his dogs to bark at us. If we are in the backyard, they will be there. If we are on the porch, they will be in the front yard. He brings 'em out periodically during the night in order that they might have 15 minute bark sessions. He has smeared our garbage cans with poop, put poison in our planters, torn cherry tomatoes off our porch plants and thrown these around. The final blow was when he drilled holes through the walls of two of my husband's tires. He had to have our truck towed and the tires replaced. And he missed a day of over-time and a day of regular work. Now we have spent 4 grand on surveillance equipment! The guy is a real nasty piece of work. The whole street hates him. We get the brunt of it because we live next door and he is jealous of us. (I know this because I used to be friendly with him when we first moved in.) The one nice thing about him is that he loves big women!!! Go figure.

Yah, being fat and depressed can be pretty hideous at times. The ruined sex life is difficult, too. I feel guilty about that because my better half is neither fat nor especially depressed (although he has had his moments), and he still has a sex drive. He is pretty understanding though, and I go through the motions complete with sound effects! LOL! This site is a real find, and I love Canuck Corners. In my real life I do have a couple of friends who are post-menopausal fatties and we do excercise our sense of black humour by joking about it. It's the only thing you can do, right? But everyone wants to be able to buy the pretty clothes and to look elegant or cute or whatever. The weight-thang hurts us as women on a deep level. Society is very lookist when it comes to us chicks. We tend to disappear to all but a few when we get old and when we get fat. Life is a little kinder to men unless they are morbidly obese or short; then they've got their own horrid crosses to bear. My appointment today was with my psychologist (oh yah, I've been pretty deep into depression and I have a lot of issues) and we spent the entire time talking about my surgery this Thursday. She wanted to know all the mechanical details. We also talked about the negative feedback about this that I have been getting from some people who know me. By the time I left the office she was totally for the operation and this left me feeling like a million bucks. Woohoo!! Kimmason, I am glad that you are on this site. It is nice talking with you and it sounds as though you are plowing through much the same sh*t as I am for sure, and probably most of us are. I have grudges that go back to my early childhood that have to do with my body. These have left me with a lot of grief and rage. Perhaps you are dealing with this kind of material, too. At anyrate, it is good that we have a place where we can come, eh.

Kimmason, it just filtered through to me that you might have to have your dog put down today. I am so sorry to hear this. I am also sorry that I didn't respond earlier but I was distracted by an appt that I had to make it to. You must be feeling dreadful! The loss of an animal is very, very painful to bear. You have all my sympathy at this time.

My advice to you, Cloe, would be slightly different. While you may need to be on antidepressants it is possible that Effexor is the wrong one for you. I found it very difficult to be on. I used to be on Prozac and for many years this worked out really well. Then I crashed big time. Now I am on Celexa and Wellbutrin and a coupla other things, and I am in much better shape. Effexor may simply be the wrong antidepressant for you. You should talk to your doc about this and be prepared to be insistant that you be allowed to try different meds. Drugs that are close relatives of each other chemically speaking can have surprisingly different effects on the human brain chemistry. The human brain is such a finely tuned item. I have tried out many different meds over this past 3 and a half year period, and I have been assessed by many specialists down here in Toronto. I have been told more than once that finding the right drugs is a hit and miss thing and that I will have to be patient. Oh, how this has been true! For sure you must run with your own feelings and hunches and not with what those who stand outside are telling you what you should be feeling. I refer to it as taking my mental temperature.
  8. We've been looking to buy a house for awhile, now. We wanted a nicer kitchen and more bathrooms than one. We also want to be far away from our psycho neighbour. About two years ago we got ourselves an agent, told him which areas of Toronto we wanted to live in, showed him our house, and said that we wanted something similar but better. (We really like our house except for the dysfunctional kitchen and the uni-bathroom and the nutso neighbour.) So far we've been seeing a lot of over-priced crap or houses that are 3 hundred thousand more than ours is. That's a lot of dollars to get a second toilet and a kitchen where you can make more than a pot of chili or grilled cheese on toast. Now we are figuring that we will stay here, put up with the lunatic, and only having one toilet, and reno the kitchen. Redoing the kitchen will be a lot less expensive than moving. And the neighbours on the other side are good. She does my gardening. Nevertheless, I envy anyone who is moving into their dream home.
  9. Your animals are adorable, Wheezy. So are yours, Cloe. We have one cat at the moment. The other one died earlier this summer from a blood clot. It was a painful, horrible death. The cat who died was on an eternal diet. When we got him from the estate of an old man who had died of cancer he weighed 24 pounds. He was so fat that it was difficult for him to get up the stairs to the second floor which is where he wanted to be in the evening because that is where we watch TV - we have a tenant in the basement flat - and where we sleep. Sometimes we would have to carry him upstairs. When I read in bed he would lie against my spine which was very cosy. Now we are all missing him, including the other cat. The two of them were very fond of each other and made a point of sleeping together. In the past we have had as many as 3 cats and a cockatiel. No dogs, though, because we were both working full time and I am allergic. I love animals and find them very interesting.

I have just made a note of it. The next time I see my shrink I will ask him. Thanx for the info. Boy, did I ever put on the pounds after I started with risperdol, and yet I do need it. He had me on half rations with the intent of taking me off, and this threw me back in the dumps again. Like I was saying, my family has major problems with depression even though we have absolutely nothing to be depressed about!!
  12. That is an excellent article. Thanx for posting it. I am a newbie and am going to have the band installed the day after tomorrow. This site is fabulous - lots of support and lots of information. I had become very, very curious about the fills process and have learned a lot. This site is the greatest!

Keeping the meds straight is pretty easy. Most of 'em I take right before bed so they are on my bedside table. The morning meds I keep by the computer. I am just glad that I have a drug plan.

Yep, I have flown to a lot of foreign countries, and then I have flown with domestic airlines inside these countries. A lot of these countries are third world countries, and yet here I am alive and well, and I am gonna get banded this Thursday.

I tried Remeron. It's a very fattening drug, and it didn't work for me. It allowed me to get too much in touch with my inner rage!:rolleyes When I was on Effexor I couldn't poop. Sometimes I thought I was gonna need a Caesarian! :help: I've been off work on disability for 3 and half years because of depression. I was out once before for five months.

I am on Wellbutrin, Celexa, and Risperidone at the moment. Oh, and Topamax. Risperidone is fattening, very fattening, but it helped me out of a very bad place. My shrink recently tried to take me off it and things did not go well. It could be worse. I could be on Zyprexa! I was on a super high dose of Effexor and hated it. I have been on antidepressants of one type or another since I was in my 30s. Depression is a big hereditary in our family, eh.

JMom, I am not the person you asked the question of but I do build aircraft, and I can tell you that at every stage of the build they are being checked by inspectors who have to approve the work and then sign the work off. In fact, both the inspector and those who are involved with the build have to put their names to the paperwork concerning the construction of that part of the aircraft, no matter how large or small. This means that they must take responsibility. This is part of the reason why aircraft are so expensive, this system of checks and double-checks and maintaining documentation on every little thing that goes into the build (including washers, nuts, and bolts). When the buyer takes the aircraft over all this paperwork goes with the aircraft. In addition, the buyer's own team of specialists go over the new aircraft with a fine-toothed comb. One of the reasons for this is to find mistakes; any mistakes that they may find mean that they can request thousands of dollars off the plane from the manufacturer. The mistakes are fixed of course. When a plane does go down, this is usually a fluke. Aircraft are a much safer mode of travelling than cars. Still, the idea of flying is unnatural to most of us, and that is why we feel a little antsy. It is only normal. And by the way, I do fly a lot.

Thanx M, for your interesting post, and no, it wasn't too long. I never realised that "believe you me" was a Canuck thang. As for being an honorary Canadian, well, it seems to me that you have not only got Canadian ancestors, you've got a corner of your heart that is devoted to Canada, too, so why not, eh? I've never been to Chicago but I've been told by a number of people that it is one of the nicest and most interesting American cities. I would like to go one day in the future. Maybe when I am a size 12....

This is all very interesting to me because, as you all may remember, the day I get cut is this Thursday, and I am both really looking forward to it, and getting kinda nervous. I am so sick of my own personal fat, and yet I have a low pain threshhold. In fact, I have the pain threshhold of your average man! I am still on Green's Farewell Foodcourt Tour. Yesterday I had the big-sized Subway sandwhich with a non-lo-cal sauce. I am, however, supposed to be eating lo-cal cottage cheese and yogurt. Haha. I think I will start smartening up on Tuesday.... because today I am taking one of my oldest friends out for a birthday lunch. (I think I will order a nice salad.) Pre-op Green sez: Thanx for all your input and support and friendship.

This is really interesting to me for a number of reasons. I fly from time to time. I love watching A&E's show, Airline. And I also build aircraft so I am aware of the safety measures that go into them at the time of the build. Thanx for posting the above.
