  1. I agree with previous post.....you need to contact the nutritionist and get the information you need. You can't possibly be getting enough protein from mashed potatoes and jello. I received detailed instructions to follow in my pre-op classes that included what to eat, how much, how often, and how many grams of protein, fat and calories per day. If you didn't get this information pre-op then call nutritionist or surgeon's office. Good luck!
  2. Try not to let yourself get discouraged. You are a very young woman and probably have not had a lot of experience with dealing with our health care system. I have been a nurse for 25 years and have still had problems (ie getting a letter from my primary MD for my insurance approval) My suggestion is to be as organized as possible, use a note book, (or your favorite electronic device) and keep track of all your appointments, tests, contact info, etc. Don't take anything for granted...confirm appointments, double check locations, follow-up to make sure tests results get to who they need to get to. If it sounds like a pain in the butt and a lot of work.....IT IS!!! Just keep in mind that anything worth while is worth the effort......that YOU are worth the effort! Good luck with your journey.
  3. Well, my program fee was $1400, which covered the psych eval, 5 nutrition classes, one pre-op class, one pre-op weight-loss nutrition class, monthy appointments with the bariatric nurse, and unlimited support-group meetings before and after surgery. This fulfilled all of the insurance requirements for pre-approval. The way I look at it is, the more educated I am and the more support I have, the more sucessful I will be.
  4. I would say that that question to ask yourself would be "What resourses do I have in place in the event of complications? Could I afford to pay out of pocket for treatment if needed?"
  5. These are very important issues to consider when paying out of pocket or having surgery in another country.Good long term follow up care could be the difference between sucess and disaster
