  4. By the way. Check out my blog "Melodie Takes Manhattan" . Its about my quest to walk every street in Manhattan Melodie Takes Manhattan!!
  5. I went to my first support group at NYU. It was great! I am gonna try to go every month. I also got a chance to meet someone I've been talking to on this site. Awesome!
  6. I walked 58 blocks today!! Almost 3 miles. Yay!!
  7. Thanks! Hopefully the fill on Thursday will do the trick!! Hang in there and don't give into temptations. I'm still on my 2 days of liquids and curious how I'm gonna feel when eating solids again.
  8. Lady and Skinny. I was also banded on the 17th. Hi bandmates!!
  9. Hey everyone. Be sure to check out the November Knockout thread in the "post op" section as well.
  10. Check out "Great Food Finds" in the Food and Nutrition forum.
  11. I don't blame you for feeling nervous. I was sooooo nervous about my first fill too. And I'm still nervous about the 2nd one. And I am envious of people who say they don't feel the band anymore. I feel it all the time. I can feel exactly where its positioned. I get little twinges and it sometimes makes me feel weird about having a foreign object in my body.
  12. Had my first fill this evening. I'm kind of sore because my port is really deep and he had some trouble finding it at first. So he was pressing and pressing until OUCH!! (he found it). That wasn't pleasant at all! But once he found it the needle wasn't so bad. I found out that there was 2cc's in my band already. I had no idea. He even took saline out to be sure it was still 2 cc's. I thought I was just feeling restriction from the band itself, go figure. I drank water before leaving the office and everything seems fine so far. He added 2cc's which brings me to 4cc's. My stomach definitely feels tighter and I am salivating a little more than usual. Looking forward to getting home and drinking hot tea. 2 days of liquids, 2 days of mushies, and then on to regular food again. The nurse was pleased that I lost 14lbs since my first check up on 11/25. So I have lost a total of 30lbs. Yay!!
  13. I am going for my first fill today. I'm a bit nervous. Hope my port is okay. I already know I lost more weight though. I was impatient and didnt wait till my appt. I weighed this morning and I'm happy the scale is continuing to move. To all of those who are gaining 3 and 4 lbs out of nowhere, it happens. It happened to me right after I started mushies but then I lost it again once my body got used to it. Try not to get discouraged. Keep a food log and keep your calories under control and the scale with start moving.
  14. Good Morning November Knockouts!! Since beginning my walking routine, I have been inspired to start a project that has been done before but still is very cool to me. To walk every street in Manhattan. Not sure how long it will take me if I dedicate a couple of hours each day. I walk anyway, I might as well make it interesting. I plan on blogging my experience along with pictures. I need a good map and good sneakers and I should be on my way. Starting Monday!!! As soon as I start my blog I will post a link.

  16. I just made a delicious smoothie 1 cup frozen strawberries 1 scoop vanilla Protein powder 3 packets truvia Water I put everything in my magic bullet and blended till smooth. 150 cal, 2g fat, 14g carb, 19g protein, 9g sugar, 3.5g Fiber
  17. Does anyone have the "Air Climber"? I am thinking of buying one.
  18. My nutritionist said wine is okay eventually. Just have to develop healthy habits first which takes a few months. The concern is that alcohol can cause you to make bad food choices as well. But I must confess (whispering) I had 5oz. of Merlot today...shhh. But I included it in my food journal and the nutritionist will see it Monday. Ohhh I am gonna get it! Haha! But I walked 29 city blocks everyday this week, so there.
  19. Oh my kitchen doesn't have any temptations. That's how I've survived so far. LOL!!
  20. My cravings are back with a vengence. I miss cigarettes, my Friday night mixed drinks, and fried food. Ughhh!!
  21. @ timetobefree. Gaining weight apparently isn't uncommon. I lost 23 lbs on the pre op diet. But once I began full liquids I gained weight. However after a week on mushies, I began to lose weight again. And yes I have counted calories on the mushy stage. I tried not to go over 1200. I've been keeping a food journal. I've been on "regular" food for 2 days now and will be getting my first fill on the 12/14. Hopefully after a while, I wont need the journal and just will naturally make the right choices. But for now, I'm gonna stick with it. Good luck!!
  22. The scale is moving in the right direction!!! Yipeeeeeeeeeeeee!
  23. I am so happy the scale finally moved in the right direction!!! I have given up on not weighing myself. My office is right next door to a health unit. So I can't help myself. Not on it everyday though. It's been about a week since I weighed last. Hope to be pleasantly suprised next Monday as well. Woo Hoo!!!
  24. I also had the SIL procedure. Was banded by Dr. Kurian at NYU. I was told that because I didn't hold most of my weight up top, I qualified for the surgery (pear shaped). I don't think it necessarily has to be related to BMI. I was 316 when she first looked at my stomach and said I may qualify. I was 293 on surgery day. Dr. Kurian also said it also depends on how things look on the inside, if they can't reach everything with the tools through the one incision, then they have to make more incisions. I am glad I ended up with one. Only thing that makes me nervous is I can't find my port. Dr. found it during my first appointment and let me feel it. But I haven't found it again on my own. Paranoid that it flipped because I've had "weird"pain lately that comes and goes. First fill isn't till 12/14. I called the Dr. and they told me to make sure I was having sufficient BM's. If I still have the pain, they said I could come in earlier and get checked out.
  25. Sugery date was 11/17. I also had problems with sleep because I couldn't get comfortable. I was able to sleep on my stomach last night for the first time and I slept like a baby. I had to use sleeping pills a few times while recovering.
