I hate change as much as the next old fart but I am getting used to it. They have gone way, way overboard in the advertising department.

That's a slap in the face to all of those women that say, "If men were the ones that had to give birth, the human race would die off." -
Whoever said they had ZERO pain post surgery is a LIAR!!
btrieger replied to mikki21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bob, Congrats on the 50 pounds!! That in itself is no small feat. I am doing nothing special. I am on no funky diets and haven't been inside a gym in 3+ years. I try to keep calories between 1,200 - 1,500 a day. Eat only 3 meals and seldom skip Breakfast. Take the low fat, low sodium alternatives when they are available. Drink more than a half gallon of Water a day. Don't drink with or directly following a meal. Take small bites and chew like crazy. Try to walk at least 3 - 5 miles a day. Most importantly, I keep a positive can-do attitude (even when I gain a few pounds) I honestly don't know or care how much I can eat. I've never tested it. I try to stop eating when I am satiated. Sometimes it comes after 2 chicken wings. Other times 8. I understand the motivation thing. I have/had the same issue. I think we all do but I have 2 gigantic dogs that need walking even when I am not motivated. Hence, I conquered that one. Let's face it: not having time is as lame an excuse as they come. You don't have to go and workout for an hour or even 15 minutes straight. Find a bunch of 5 minute periods here and there and walk around the house, office, supermarket, etc... If you have stairs close by, take a couple of minutes to climb them. If we have time to read and post here, we have time to talk short walks. Find a partner, whether it be your wife, a friend or a coworker that will motivate you to get up and walk around. As I mentioned, I have to walk my dogs at home but I also have a few guys at work that I take a short walk around the office with. It only takes one to get the others up and out. YOU CAN DO THIS!! I was a lazy fat slob (now I am just a lazy slob) and I am positive that if I can do it, anyone can! Hi Kelly and thanks for the kind words. I spend entirely too much time on Facebook these days. Now back to our regularly scheduled thread on pain. I apologize for the brief hijack -
You don't have to explain anything. It is nobody's business. They probably won't notice anyways unless you bring it up. People usually care less what others are eating or how much.

Tummy tuck scars... Forever?
btrieger replied to GipsyGirl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Having my panniculectomy in 8 and a half days and a not worried about scarring nor the fact that I will no longer have a belly button. It's good to be a guy! -
NSV..... I'm just OVERWEIGHT NOW!!!
btrieger replied to sixtythreenova's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats!!! I have 3/10s of a pound to go before I can be declared legally overweight -
I can't remember buying a pull over in the past 25 years without multiple Xs in the size. These days I am wearing a regular large and they are a little baggy on me. My panniculectomy is scheduled for next Friday. I have been wearing pants that are 12 - 16 inches too big for me and can't wait to buy some that fit. I wasn't going to waste money on new pants just to use them for a month or 2.

btrieger replied to mikki21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not lying when I say, "I felt no pain at all!" I am having a panniculectomy next week and expecting some pain with that. Luckily, I still have the pain killers I didn't need. So, I can use them after that. -
Friday - what's on *your* menu?
btrieger replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kung Pao scallops and shrimp at PF Changs for lunch. Probably Bufalo Wild Wings for dinner. -
Fat in general is not bad. You should try and keep trans fat to 0 and saturated fat to less than 20 grams a day. Talk to Pam or David at Dr Kim's office. They'll be happy to answer.

What's the time frame?????
btrieger replied to mgray1024's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you expect your insurance company to pay for it your chances of having surgery by the end of the year are slim to none. Your best bet is to call and ask the insurance company. -

Concerned about using lap band only doctor (True Results)
btrieger replied to dallasdave's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shop around! Consultations are free. Then go with the surgeon or center you are most comfortable with. Personally, I think you should check out Dr David Kim. He is my surgeon (and Nate Newton's) and probably the best in Texas. Bariatric Weight Loss LAP-BAND System Gastric Bypass Surgery Arlington Dallas Fort Worth (Ft. Worth) Texas (TX) -
I use bodybugg.com but you have to pay for a subscription. FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate are some of the more popular free ones. There are literally hundreds online

How long until you're back to work?
btrieger replied to lyndeeboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on a Tuesday and could have easily gone back to my desk job on Wednesday. Plan on taking a good part of the week off just to make sure. It took me 4 weeks to get stuck and if I took my time chewing and concentrated on what I was doing, I'd never get stuck. -
There is no need for a gym if you don't have the time. Surely, you can find an hour a day to walk or climb stairs even if it is for 10 minutes 6 times a day.

practice sipping & chewing
btrieger replied to thatgurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are unsure about something your surgeon or nutritionist say, please ask them to clarify. There really is no such thing as a stupid question and this is for the rest of your life. You'll be fine if you keep a positive attitude! -
Social drinking and lap band
btrieger replied to SusieQ1104's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't do it every day any more but I can't just have one. When I drink, I DRINK! I don't usually eat when I drink. It kills the buzz. I guess I am just a social drinker intent on over socializing. -
hi, I have a question about how long I can keep the band
btrieger replied to iwannabskinny's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats!! I am almost at goal and the only thing I changed in my diet is smaller portions; no fast food and no soda. I eat out 5 or 6 days a week. Fried chicken and pizza are still on the menu. I also walk at least 5 miles a day where I used to just walk from the couch to the bathroom a few times a day. I plan on keeping my band because it will keep me honest and I will never again be tempted to shovel the food into my pie hole like I used to. -
To Fill or Not to Fill...That is the question..
btrieger replied to Neya's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If I didn't think I could control myself during the holidays, I would schedule a small fill. But, if you are in no hurry, which is a real good thing; give your will power and attitude a chance. If you lose control and gain a few pounds, you will just have to work a little harder to lose it. -
practice sipping & chewing
btrieger replied to thatgurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only real drinking rule is don't do for 30 to 60 minutes after eating. I guzzle Water at all other times. Taking smaller bites and chewing is much more important. I lost 95 pounds during my 5 month pre-op practice. -
I guess I'm a success story!

Congrats; you look awesome and great post!! How could you think that 90+ pounds wasn't a success? -
Fatty nodules under the skin.

Mine are becoming more and more noticeable to the touch as I lose weigh. I am hoping they will melt away but don't know.
