I prefer two-thousand ten. No matter which is used, they will pronounce "ten" as "tin" down here and it drives me crazier. :smile2: I guess it beats what some will have to hear in 30 years for an entire decade. Two-thousand fahty through two-thousand fahty-nine

does everyone end up needing a tummy tuck?
btrieger replied to MaybeBanding26's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You will need a tummy tuck if your BMI is over 50 and you knock it down to under 30 and you want to have a flat abdomen. This of course if something in my ever so humble opinion should not even be considered until you near that point. -
First off, congratulations on the weight you has lost! Changing your weight is all about calories. If you burn more calories than you consume, you lose weight. Unfortunately the opposite is true as well. Drink plenty of Water. No less than 64 ounces a day. Don't drink anything with calories in it! Do not skip breakfast! Exercise for 30 minutes 3 or 4 days a week. A walk if refreshing. Keep a log of every single thing that passes your gums. This will help you or your nutritionist see where you need help. Is it what you are eating that is slowing your loss or how much you are eating? If you are eating a lot of fatty and processed foods; you need to rethink and substitute them one at a time with something more healthy. I can't really help here. Not much of junk food eater. If you are just over-eating; try cutting your portions down just a little. For instance: If you usually eat 2 sandwiches for lunch. Try only 1 sandwich with twice as much in it. That way you cut out 2 slices of bread. If you have a steak and a baked potato for dinner. Cut off a quarter of the steak and toss it. And use nonfat sour cream on the potato instead of butter. Keep cutting the portions until you find that they don't satisfy you. Don't be afraid to have a low calorie snack once in a while like a 7/8 ounce bag of baked chips; a sugar free snack pack pudding or a weight watchers ice cream bar. Just don't over do it. These are examples of what I have done for the past 3 months and it is working. I am not banded yet and the weight is melting away.

I feel like a huge disaster I let down myself and im disgusted.
btrieger replied to ashleyb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like it is more will power than anything else. You know why the lapband is not working and you know you are eating too much. I'd suggest seeing a therapist and getting to the root of what is driving you to eat if it is not hunger. -
What did you give the Bodybugg as a reason for not having it on during the photo shoot? :smile2: Congrats and as a man I am obliged to tell you that you are a hotty!!

Short-Term Disability Approval/Denial

Please call it "short term" and not "STD". I have a filthy mind and every time I see "STD" I start laughing. :smile2: -
Short-Term Disability Approval/Denial
btrieger replied to alicia3138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The OP is only 28 years old. A lot of us having been working longer than she has been alive. We get time off for stress. It is called vacation. I had a couple of heart attacks in September and underwent a coronary cath and stent placement. CIGNA, the STD considered this surgery but only allowed me 2 weeks. I probably could have used another week or 50 but they were right and I was ready to return to work. So, if 2 weeks is enough for heart attacks and a cath; 6 weeks is way out of line for a lapband. -
Short-Term Disability Approval/Denial
btrieger replied to alicia3138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask your surgeon what he thinks about you returning to work. We had a truck driver in one of my mandatory nutrition and behavior classes that had a similar question. The answer was that he shouldn't need more than a week or two off. The heavy lifting restrictions are usually for bypass patients. -
WARNING: This is going to come across a lot worse than I mean it to. People that are not close to you probably could care less about your surgery one way or the other. Don't fret it and be yourself.

I get my date on either Wednesday or next Monday. I am on all sorts of meds. I hope it doesn't move the date out too much.

Lighten up!! Pizza and chips are not bad. Eating too many or too much is bad and it sounds like you knew your limit and logged them. Congrats! Good luck with the fill. I have yet to be banded and am not looking forward to fills. I am a big wimp when it comes to needles.

Global Warming: Real or hoax?
btrieger replied to serenity55's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't think that global warming exists. Fort Worth, Texas is part of the globe and it is 32 degrees right now. Hardly what I'd call warming for the deep south. Look at the weather records for any city on Earth. The highs and lows are all over the place for the last hundred plus years. There is no warming trend across the globe. Polar warming may exist but if it does, I don't think man has anything to do with it at. -
Welcome and while you are waiting; do as much more research as possible to make sure that the lapband is for you. Nobody can make that decision but you. The lapband is a ring that goes around the upper portion of your stomach. The ring has a balloon on the inside so that it can be tightened and untightened. In order to do this, saline fluid is put into the balloon. That is what a fill is. Your insurance company and surgeon determine whether you have to lose weight or not. You'll see the word "tool" a thousand times while you read. The lapband is only a tool. The lapband doesn't make the weight magically disappear. YOU have to do that. The lapband basically makes it so you feel full with less food and don't overeat. The lapband will not work unless you are ready to change your lifestyle and do what is required to make it work.

Telling people, Judgements, and Accountability with the Band
btrieger replied to tarajim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still stick with my original response. It is nobody's business but mine. I am the only one that I am accountable to. I will probably be more judgmental of myself than anyone else would be anyways. -
Congrats on making it to Onederland!! If you want the smell of KFC, just put a pot of cheap cooking oil on the stove and let it burn.

Yep, you have to wait until it grows up and murders somebody before you can kill it. -
Smoking highers your blood pressure; can cause heart arhythmias [sp] and is probably a bad thing to do immediately before going under anesthesia. Some will say quit all together but I know that is easier said that done. I wouldn't smoke the day of your surgery at all. You can make it a few hours.

Oh yeah and tax the $hit out Patty and those damn churches that want to have a say in politics but give nothing.

Socialism is not a bad thing on paper. If everyone worked their fair share. Unfortunately, we have an entire under class living on the dole; smoking crack and popping out illegitimate kids like they are going out of style. In order to socialize health care, us taxpayers would have to fork out even more money than we are now and the quality of health care would suffer because doctors would only earn a fraction of what they do now. Lets face it, most good physicians are not in it just to make people healthy. They like their yachts and beach houses in the Carribean. Stop subsidizing bastards and put the majority that are abusing disability to work and maybe then we can take a shot at socializing certain aspects of our country. As for paying taxes for the roads and the security of this country, I am happy to do so. I served over 5 years proudly in the military. Can you say the same BJean?

So, women should attend a sacrificial ceremony every month after their Aunt Flo leaves?

Cuba is south honey. If you start walking now, you can be there by Spring Break.

I do give a damn! It is going to cost me money. If you care so much about these people, start some kind of fund for them and let those that care or pretend they care can pay for their health care. Get you hand out of my pocket! Also, I never said I only care about my needs. I also care about my family and friends.

No weight loss in over 2 weeks & I was banded 4 weeks ago :(
btrieger replied to motomom87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just having the lapband installed doesn't make you lose weight. Burning more calories than you eat makes you lose weight. The lapband, once sufficient Fluid has been added to it will make you feel full sooner. Start logging what you are eating and counting the calories. Try to keep your intake below 1,500 calories. Most of all, drink plenty of Water. No joke. The water is a necessity for weight loss. At least 64 ounces a day. * I have no clue what kind of foods you should be concentrating mostly on in order to nurse your baby.
