New Year, New Me
December 16th I was banded. My journey did not begin there. It began in Aug. with my PCP. Before my surgeon would band me I had to give up 35 years of smoking cigs. I did it, obviously! I'm looking ahead to 2010 to be smoke free. I'm also looking to be a different person, literally smaller. By this time next year I intend to be a skinny person. This being the first time I've ever blogged, I'll keep it short. Happy New Year!:thumbup::biggrin:

Is gum chewing okay?
I have always wondered about this. I had to quit smoking cigs to be banded and was doing the preop diet too! I used gum to replace the oral fixation I had. I chew Orbit Bubblemint and still am chewing it. I wondered about getting "stuck" with gum and now I'm worried. Also, can the peppermint irritate the pouch? Anyone know about this too?

Yes, I'm still having pain associated with it and it's been two weeks since my surgery. I coughed really hard the day before yesterday and then got a sharp pain in between my breast bones. I'm trying not to irritate it now. Are you still having any discomfort?

December Bandsters 2009
Welcome Christie, New Joy and Pam!!! Yesterday was my two week check up. Everything went well! I can now start transitioning to real food!!! Yeah!!! I'm to start with mushies. Things like cottage cheese, refried beans, a half of a banana, scrammbled eggs, Greek style yogart were all suggested. Then I am to start trying real food. By the time of my first fill I am supposed to have tried all foods. I am to try one new food at a time. My class was 2 and half hours long followed by my check up. Basically my doc gave me the green light to try anything, but to transition my new stomach slowly and I got two thumbs up!!! Great Expectation--you are very sweet!!! Thank you. Hugs to you!!!:thumbup::smile:

Dear Great, You need to up your protein and drink 64 oz. of fluids a day. I, too, have had little restriction since the beginning. I started mushies early on. Some suggestions I have for you are: scarmmbled eggs, Cream of Wheat (add unflavored protein powder while steaming the milk), creamed soups (again, add protein powder), a half of a banana, a baked yam (bake it a long time), SF pudding, Greek style yogart. These are just some suggestions. Don't eat too much and count your calories. Hope this helps. Best wishes!!!

I developed a pain between my breast bone. I stopped taking the Volterin (pure ibuprofen) and started on Prilosec. The pain went away almost immediately. But I wonder if I've done damage now. I go to the doc today and will ask. I want to be sure there's no damage. Thanks for the info!!!

Disney World on 2nd week of Post-OP Liquid Diet?
I am 11 days out at age 50 and went (and stood in lines) for Sherlock Holmes on Christmas! I went to church and Target by myself today. I would tell your friend something. Like the other's said you will need breaks and rest. Have a fun trip!!!

I purchased a Protein Whey unflavored powder today at GNC. One scoop is 110 cal and has 21 gm of Protein. I added some to my daily lunch of my regular protein drink. You can add it to Chicken broth or creamy soups. It is wonderful!!!

Best Wishes to both of you!!! You will be fine. You may want to pack GasX strips. They really helped me. I asked for one as soon as I saw my hubby and did not have that bad of gas pains. I had some. Expect some in your shoulder or neck. It's a sharp pain. Many suffer from this right after this surgery. Anyway, I will pray for both of you tomorrow and until you post that your home recovering. Let us know!!!:thumbup:

Start experimenting with creamed soups or cream of wheat. I have and it really helps. But be careful to count calories. I also tried scrammbled eggs and half of a banana that I really chewed up. It all went down okay and no gas or anything. Just be really careful!!! Watch out for slider foods.

Why is ibuprofen a no no. I take Volteran and it has iduprofen in it or something like that. My doc said it was okay to take. Just curious.

I have been like that since the day after surgery. But I have held on to my diet and been good. The weight is coming off slowly. Maybe you can get a fill tomorrow. Hope all goes well for you.

Why do we eat Pureed if we can tolerate Regular?
Thanks for this post. I was feeling badly about Creamed Soups and Cream of Wheat. I'm 10 days out but had all the Fluid from my band removed the day after surgery. I have stuck to my diet and the weight is coming off but I did cheat a little. I have also tried scrammbled eggs and a half of a banana. Both were chewed and chewed. We must listen to our bands though and know when your full or hungry.

Food addict/ post op cheating...
I am 10 days out of surgery. I had to have all the Fluid removed from my band the day after surgery. From the beginning I had little restriction. But I do have it and know when I'm hungry. The first week I did Protein shakes twice a day. Early on I had the creamed soups and applesauce. I am now able to do Cream of Wheat and scrammbled eggs (not at the same time, though). I am still on a strick diet and do have a Protein shake at least once a day with fruit in it. But I have been very careful and weigh myself every day. I do 30 minutes of walking every day. I am doing well. I am healing nicely. And, most importantly, losing weight. To the thread starter: Be kind to your body. No more Doritos (for now) and your body will begin to shrink and you will feel a whole lot better. Best wishes to you.

Surgery Scheduled Tuesday Dec 29th! Any suggestions or words of wisdom?
There is a thread in Pre Op called December Bandsters 2009 and a thread in Post Op called December Delights. You should read those. It will give you a lot of insight as to what's happening and, who knows, you might make a friend or two. There is also a Group, under the link Communites to Social Groups: December Bandsters. Hope this helps and Happy New Year...also Welcome!!!

I, too, feel like I could eat a whole pizza! I wish I had some restriction here!!! It's getting old eating protein shakes, yogarts and creamed soups. Plus I've lost no weight since I was banded.

I there any way you can cancel your trip? You might lose money on plane tickets, etc. but it sounds like it would be in your best interest to do the surgery on the 22nd. Just a suggestion. Hang in there. Don't get too discouraged. You will work it out some how.
