I am so glad that your BF is coming around. My husband is as well. I also was upset about not getting any support. I currently am having " issues" with skin break down or something under my breasts and I was so upset today over it. I Showed hubby and he said " OH DAMN what is that from " I told him " BEING FAT" started crying told him they were " Fat Sores" . Later today our office manger came over , i thought it was weird he was over on Saturday . After he left hubby says " I think your surgery can happen in December " . they were going over money from the business . Something else when I had my break down he said that you might want to think about Sherrilyn. My husband told me " Mindy I feel like im in a catch 22 with you , if i told you I Think the Band is a GREAT IDEA that's awesome you would say something like , YOU THINK IM FAT I KNEW IT U Want me SKINNY .. if i told you no you dont need it , you would say ... SO YOU WANT ME TO BE FAT AND MISERABLE " and ya know he was SO RIGHT. I would do something like that. So maybe your BF feels a bit like that too . Im glad he's coming around. As for me and the band: Im doing it because I WANT IT , i have never wanted anything more in my life (other than my kids) BUT I want it so bad because I NEED IT . I NEED IT TO be around for my kids. When I heard those words " YOUR MORBIDLY OBESE , it scared the crap out of me. I NEED this ... HTH Mindy

Personally I notice it more here. I lived in ILL until I was about 10 and go back there some and speak to family who lives there. Not saying its not there but I think Texans (Southerners ) ARE more vocal about it ? Idont know . Im being sterotypical again ,,,, but I have noticed this. Up north its not as obvious . This is something that I worry a great deal about . I am not banded yet , Shooting for December. But I have chronic migraines . I am on preventatives now for them . Off of my meds I average about 4 migraines a week. Which generally will make me throw up about 2 of those. I had a dentist ask me once if i was bulimic. I told her " Do I LOOK Like im bulimic at 248 pds " LOL . I CAN If i have to STOP myself from vomitting however, usually throwing up HELPS Me migraines . I have been known to make myself vomit to relieve the pressure off my head. I try the best I can to catch the migraines with meds. Imetrex, amerge, Zomig, Ect... Luckily now that im on Topamax and Wellbutrin I average about 2 a month instead of 4 or more a week. Plus I stopped smoking and that helped me ALOT. But migraines and vomitting is on my list of things to discuss with my surgeon. There are meds available that are not in pill form when you DO get a migraine, imetrex has a nasal spray (it leaves a NASTY after taste though) Imetrex also has an injection, which works that fastest . Maxalt has a dissolveable pill you put under your tounge that works fast. I prefer that one myself. Migranal also has a nasal spray , I havent tried that one yet though. Hope that helps a bit. Mindy

I have seen clips from the movie and on Oprah , I use to think that there was a difference in being Racist and Prejuidice , Judging people at first glance by what they look like or sterotyping people. ( which from what I Understand is addressed in the movie) Oprah had a professor on her show and he said " NOPE its all the same if you walk down the street and hold your purse tighter because your in a dark street and a black man walks by , YES Its sterotyping or judging .. BUT Its Racist." Before I would have said I was guilty of sterotyping some people. Espically living in Texas and being around so many hispanics . I am VERY Guilty of that. Having a construction company though that depends on Hispanic workers for its bread and butter has changed that for me a little. I think i might go rent that movie tonight . Mindy

my husband grew up in a very racist family . Not only racist but they are ignorant and uneducated. I agree that everyone probably see's race or color. Everyone I think that is except Children. I do not think Children see color until they get older and someone points it out to them . My parents were some that I would never really consider racist or prejuidice . I had a roomate that was black. Not only was he black he was a COWBOY . In Texas walking into a Country Bar as a White Woman with a black man is NOT the norm or from what I found the safest thing to do sometimes. I can not tell you how many times i got into fist fights with people over that. One time my roommate and I were at a Rodeo and I was standing there talking to him and he had his arm around me ... My dad walked by said hi and moved on . When I saw him later that week he said to me " MINDY I didnt apprecaite walking by and seeing my daughter with a black mans arm around her , what if someone I knew saw you what would that look like " And he LIKED My roommate. I truely was FLOORED . I thought my dad was not like that. But I guess when it came to his daughter it was a different story which is SAD. Being around my roommate alot was really the first time I really experience, witnessed racism on that kind of personal Level and its UGLY ... I hate it and I do NOT Want my children to think that of people. I dont allow that talk in my house and my husband is MUCH MUCH more tolerant and less judgemental of people now because of his son ... Children have the right idea sometimes DESPITE their parents lol Mindy

We approached this subject in my house recently . My husband and his cousin are from around Vidor TX. Which if you know anything about that part of Texas was a VERY Racist part of TX. Were talking use to be KKK country . My hubby's cousin was staying with us for the week and hubby said " Your going to have to watch your mouth this weekend " (he likes to use the N Word which i DO NOT ALLOW USED in my house) cousin says " WHY " I said becaues Tyler ( my 14 yr old) is having 2 of his friends spend the night. The cousin says " AND " I said " AND You need to SHUT UP With the RACIST CRAP Around my kids , you can call it just playing or what ever you may think but YOUR RACIST weather you want to admit it or not so DO NOT SAY ONE WORD ABOUT BLACK, mexican, jewish , asian, ANY PEOPLE THIS WEEKEND PERIOD" . He pops up " Geez you act like Tyler's Friends are Black " . WELL as a MATTER OF FACT THEY ARE . BUT I did NOT Feel the need or purpose or RELEVIENCE to to tell you that. I also told him " ANd If you want to get POLITICALLY CORRECT .. They ARE African AMERICANS ... they have been in the US From Sierra Leon Africa and have seen more HORRIFIC CRAP in their live than you can even begin to DREAM OF " . My point of all this is ... 10 yrs ago my husband would NEVER of allowed his son to have an "African American " friend in his house. NOW, those 3 boys are togeter all the time. My son's friends mom works alot and they are over here before football games, we take them to games, weekends, they spend the night on week nights, and are the only one's allowed to do so . BUT my husband has changed. The cousin after being around these boys for one DAY changed ... they changed him . They are the NEATEST Children you have ever seen . Ya cant help but love them . Some say that racist people CANT Change ,,,,, the cousin , wouldnt allow HIS son to have mexican or black friends before that weekend,,,, NOW he can . However Living in the South I DO See alot of racism . Its still around . as for the teachers issue. .... I would tell the other teachers " I think sponsoring the dance team is a TEACHERS responsibility and if they asked ME To do it then im going to do it" I find it interesting that statements like THAT was said to you . are not thought to be Rude or inappropriate . Since we are self employed we do not have health insurance. We are looking into getting it soon though. One of the cheaper and decent plans was unicare. When calling and asking about private pay insurance , Do you ask them outrigh" Do you cover for WLS banding surgery " Or do you ask them " Do you have any EXCLUSIONS" I guess what im asking is HOW Do I find out about it. Also someone said that since its self pay I could get the policy to COVER It since im private pay . How would I go about doing that ? Any suggestions ? Ive come to the conclusion prior to this that I was going to be self pay . But have been looking and saw that Unicare apparantly seems pretty good about covering the band. So if they Do great, if they dont we need health insurance anyway . Thanks Mindy

I have a list already started. I dont have a consult yet . Im waiting for money to be saved up first. But here is my list so far some are the same as everyone else. 1. Go Dancing . 2. No more plus size clothes 3. wear swim suite 4. play ball with my boys 5. Not be out of breathe cleaning my house 6. NOt be out of breathe doing ANYTHING 7. Cross my legs 8. Be able to hold my head high when i walk in ANYWHERE 9. Be able to feel proud to be out with my husband when he's at "Professional" Funtions. That's it so far. Mindy

Dawn , LIke i said in my post below, the Wellbutrin I think is what REALLY made my cravings less for the cigs AND its got an appetite suppressant in it . Wellbutrin is the generice of zyban which is the quit smoking drug. If you take it as an antidepressant it keeps you level. VERY Little side affects if any . Also like i said the patchs. When I did feel like smoking ( and still do ) I chew regular wrigleys spearmint gum . Im telling ya I have had NO will power in the past with quitting. I do not think i have gained much wt either. I just weighted myself and im maybe a pd or 2 more than i was a month or so ago. So GOOD LUCK . Check into the wellbutrin . Mindy

I TOTALLY Understand how ya'll feel . I quit smoking about 2 months ago. I have smoked for 15 yrs . I started when i was 15. I quit cold turkey when i was pregnant with my last son . This time I used the patches and it helped ALOT . that and the fact that im on Wellbutrin anyway for my migraines , So i think that helped take the edge off. A friend of mine who is a respritory therapist told me people who quit with patchs or smoking aids like that are more likely to NOT Start up again . So far i have not TOUCHED a cig since i quit. Frankly I have not wanted to. As for weight... well I dont know honestly if i have gained or not . I am not banded yet. I quit because of the surgery and I firgured IF Im going to gain wt from quitting I might as well do it BEFORE The band lol Good luck to everyone who has quit and for those who are thinking about it ... JUST DO IT. I did not set a quit date, I just went to the store one day picked up a box of patches and threw away my smokes and i was DONE. I have the LEAST amount of will power as anyone I know . SO IF I CAN DO IT YOU CAN TOO! Mindy

My oldest is 14 and a wrestler and a football player. A football player in TEXAS no less . Scares the hell out of me. Not so much this yr since he's in middle school , they practice in the morning at 6 am . They are done before it even starts to get hot. Next yr however , 2 A Days Start. High School football in Texas is INTENSE. And i worry about him. But he's very good at football ( I think he's done wrestling this yr too) . Every yr though , I get his heart tested. Evidenlty the heart disorder that all these kids have dropped from (ventricular Fiburlation Sp?) is detectable .... Once you have it you have it . It wont pop up all of a sudden. But I still get my son tested every yr at the heart hospital of Austin. If it is not that something else might pop up . For $175 they do a total heart work up . Sometimes at the start of the yr they will do the vent. Fib. test for free. So its worth it , I Dont want to stop him from playing but i want him to be safe . Still worry about it though. Mindy

O how sad. The school district is NOT too smart. They screwed themselves by making that statement above. Here in Austin , Texas in general lately the schools are being OVERLY Cautious because in the past few weeks there have been SEVERAL Kids Die on the sports fields. IN houston Last week alone there were 3 kids ( one in 7 grade) die on the football field . The week before that there was a Football player in the Austin are drop on the side lines on the feild. He was dead... The had a portable defibulator and they brought him back. IN the past 2 weeks I would say there have been close to 10 middle school to high school kids die. They should be being more careful. Mindy
