I totally agree and I dont have the band yet. If i hear "easy" way out yet im going to vomit. I have told some people that i barely know , for instance , I clean houses to save money for the surgery . Those people I clean houses for all KNOW why im cleaning houses ( It kind of came up accidently) I can tell you THOSE People were MORE INTERESTED and MORE Supportive than my "Friends" . SO IRRITATING. Mindy

Sorry by BF I meant BEST FRIEND . Yes she has weight to loose herself. Granted its 10 or 20 lbs . I will be VERY PRoud of myself when i get my band. I have NEVER wanted ANYTHING so bad in my life. I HATE Cleaning and im cleaning houses every day to get the money , I LOVED Smoking after 15 yrs I quit smoking . All to have this surgery . Im THE MOST UNMOTIVATED person in the world. BUT I WANT THIS SURGERY And I WILL GET IT . I like your quote about help from Jenny Craig im going to use that next time my best friend says something like that. I DO know one thing. This whole surgery thing has REALLY made me reevaluate friendships ... To ME because I will support someone 100% if that's what makes THEM happy because i belive that's what a friend is. And seeing the way some people have reacted to my choice to have this surgery has made me RETHINK having them in my life. Mindy

Liability is not what came to mind when I read this . EXPERIENCE, Knowledge of anatomy, experience from doing this day in and day out is what came to mind. Monitoring dialation and an INVASIVE Fill are 2 different things as far as im concerned. Ive given myself injections for yrs for migraines as well as allergy shots. But I would NEVER Do this . NOr would i consider it . I use to be able to take my allergy shots at home, Now you have to go into a MD's office to get them. Just my input . Mindy

I finally told my mom and my "BF" that its not up to them to feel comfortable about my surgery . Its up to ME and its not for them to KNOW How im going to feel that its all about me. Its not about THEM , it has nothing to do with them , it has nothing to do with how they feel about my surgery . I told my mom , "Ya know there is a reason why they call people who are a certain amount of wt over wt or have a BMI Of what ever # MORBIDLY OBESE Cause it can KILL YOU " I think they have issues because I have been overwt for 6 yrs. I guess that isnt enough time for them. Again its not about THEM , its about me , im not going to wait for something to happen to me. With having PCOS as well it makes it that more difficult to loose. Im not going to wait for something to happen , im taking action now. Mindy

I Just sent you a PM ... I am also going through the same thing ... I am not banded yet. I just got this little comment via email from my BF a few days ago "My desire would have been that you exhausted all other efforts first. I know you say you've done a few things.... but with the money you have you could invest in joining the gym, hiring a personal trainer, joining Jenny Craig.... you could do ALL of those things and probably lose the weight on your own and then you'd be SO proud of yourself. You self-esteem and confidence would be SO high and you could show the world that you could do it on your own. It'd be healthier, safer and it would have been worth the time and money to at least give it a 6 month commitment before doing the surgery. I'd CERTAINLY be in your cheering section, cheering you on, encouraging you... shoot, I'd join the gym too if I could. I just know how easy it is for all of us to find the "quick fix", the fastes way out.... but you should weigh every other option first. If you were dedicated to fitness and health for a steady 6 months and you didn't see ANY change (which YOU would see a change) then I'd TOTALLY support the idea.... but I think you'd be surprised. You're so down on yourself that you don't think you could be successful but you're not even trying.... doing some walking, yoga and a little home exercise isn't gonna cut it. It just won't." My comment to her was " I am DOING This on my OWN , the band is simply a tool to help me . and TRUST ME I will be PLENTY PROUD Of MYSELF when I loose 100lbs . Because when I do it will BE ON MY OWN" . I Send her some info on surgery , a link to OH to look at before and after pics . And some other info . Most of the time the negativity is because of lack of education about the surgery is what i have found. But after the help from this group as well as others I have found that after a bit of a nervous breakdown (LOL) Its just best to try to not argue with them . I try to only tell those who I KNOW are going to be supportive . IF i dont know I wont tell them . I really wish I had thought about not telling anyone ... But that really wasnt something I had thought about until I came on this board and then I thought " NOW I know why people do that ". I See why now . anyway I hope that helps Mindy

Im not banded yet but is this common for docs to give you needles for emergency unfills ?? I dont think i have read anything about this before this thread. I mean it makes sense to me but at the same time seems dangerous because of this very thing, leaving the idea open for "Self Fills" Mindy

Im thinking IF this goes to court ESPICALLY In the states they are goign to say " Ok let me see you kept the FINANCIAL Records but you didnt keep MEDICAL Records for your PATIENT " Hummmm .IF they have no medical record of you HOW Can they PROVE they did any procedure on You ? :faint: That might be something you bring up to them . If i were you I would consult an attorney . Alot of attorney's will offer a one hour free consult but it might be worth something to see if you should be worried. If anything maybe you can counter sue for medcial malpractice . There is a doc in San Antonio that takes MX band patients Dr Jorge Rincon , he's who im going to see. MAYBE If you establish with a doctor THAT DOCTOR can get your records ?? I dont know though . You might want to call Dr Rincon he deals with alot of MX Band PTS but usually in order for him to see you he wants you to have your medical records. He's very nice though , he might have some suggestions for you ? I wish you luck and this will work out some how some way . Mindy

I Can tell you that we( as in my family) are better off Financally than 8 yrs ago . HOWEVER we Filled Bankcrupcy (Chapter 7) Which was the best thing that we could have done. BUT , HUGE BUT here. BECAUSE of the BUSH Administration People like me who had $55,000 in Medical Bills because of 2 eye surgeries my son had and ER Bills from my Chronic MIgraines .... (BTW I had health insurance for one of those surgeries)... it is now Nearly IMPOSSIBLE to file Chapter 7 for the working class . If we had waited One day longer to file , we would not have been able to . We would have made TOO MUCH money (at the time $35,000) To file Chapter 7 they would have FORCED us to file chapter 13 , if it was OK'd for us to file chapter 13 after that. Chapter 7 was the BEST Thing that ever happened to us financally it allowed us to start over. But the BUSH admin. changed that. WHY ?? Because people had too much CC Debit . Instead of changing the laws so the CC Companies cant RAPE You with Fee's they hurt the working class. 2 weeks after our bankcrupcy was Discharged I got 5 count them 5 CC"S in the mail 3 of 1 of them was from a company I owed $1000 AND that I claimed in the bankcrupcy . GO Figure that out. ( I only had $1500 in CC Debit too ) . Mindy

Im a housewife and we own our own businesss. My husband runs the concrete business we own that we started in Feb. with 8 Employee's now we have 20 ! I started off taking care of the paper work but it got too much for me to do . SO now i work on cleaning houses to pay for my surgery . The business is doing so good though I may not have to keep doing that lol MIndy

This may not be a great answer or something that you want to hear . But if this is a big deal and I can see how it would be being such an intimate work situation. Some people or empolyers im sure pepole could tell and they would be ok with it. BUT what about missnig the friends wedding and using that time off for the surgery . It seems to be that taking the proper amount of time off for the surgery and to make sure you have enough time to heal ( i am not banded yet ) and make sure you do not over do it is more important than making sure your at your friends wedding. Granted I know its important to be at your friends wedding. but if your friend truely is your friend I think given the fact that it seems you kind of have to make a choice she SHOULD Understand. Or can you not take as MUCH time off for the wedding ? It was just a suggestion that I didnt see mentioned yet. And probaly something I would do since the surgery is so important to you as well as me. I would miss just about anything in order to do it. lol HTH Mindy

that is true Scottish Rite is Great. However at First Grade those indications are not really going to be accurate. A child may have some indicators show up at First Grade but you most likely will not know until the End of 2nd grade if those are TRUE Indicators of Dyslexia . NOW Looking back at my son in first grade it was CLEAR the dyslexia was there. But the problem is some of the things that indicate dyselxia at grade 1 Alot of children do . Mindy

It is common for kids at that age to write things backwards. Contrary to what people think Dyslexia is MORE complex than just flipping letters and numbers around. The Main issue with Dyslexia for reading is decoding and reading comprehension. . Most dyslexics can not decode words therefore making it hard to comprehend. Flipping the letters though can be an indication of dyslexia . Something my son however does not do . At second grade you should start being concerned if he's having difficulty with reading comprehension , site words, decoding skills and if the letter slipping increases . I also would like to say , if your son does not pass the TAKS the FIRST TIME use it FIRST as a tool to get school dystrict to pay for ALL The learning disability testing you can . If your son has dyslexia or any learning disability the KEY is the RIGHT Program . My son has EXCELLED in the right school. If you can afford private school and he's dyslexic your BEST BET is an all dyselxic private school. HTH Mindy

That is all the TAKS test is , The ENTIRE Year the teachers are teaching students how to pass the TAKS Test. Or what is on the TAKS test .In between those times they are taking " benchmarks" to see what " Levels' they are at so they can "adjust" the classes and make sure that everyone passes. Ok Have the TAKS test BUT Cut the money associated with it . That is why there is so much pressure put on the teachers by the schools and the districts. If so many kids do not pass then the school does not get enough money . Well ya know what that's the DISTRICTS Problem NOT THE KIDS. Put the pressure on the teachers to MAKE Those kids succeed. I have seen SO MANY lazy teachers ( dont hurt me ya'll lol ) who just dont care. Cut those teachers out , only keep those good teachers that care , allow them to teach the way THEY Want to teach , I gurantee you that kids will Learn ALOT better that way. When i was put in a self paced program to help me graduate after I got pregnant with my son . I made straight A's . Prior to being in that class. F's. Why ? I did better not having to sit there and listen to someone speak for an hour . I did better just reading and doing the work on my own . Like i said I made up over 3 yrs of work in a little over a yr. AND made straight A's doing it. If they had different " teaching style " Classrooms I think kids would do so much better. Instead you have to get a kid like mine put into sp ed. to get modifications put in an IEP in order to get those " Tools" Put in place for him . Frustrating. IM STILL Trying to figure out how to get my kid out of the TAKS legally just for principal of the matter lol Mindy Mindy

Faybie, Here is something to ask your son . Ask him weekly what he's doing. Ask him if any of it has anything to do with the TAKS tests. I can almost gurantee you SOMETHING each week for the most part has something to do with the TAKS tests. Some teachers/schools are worse (More blatant) than others about making it known that the TAKS Is THE MOST important thing . The last school ( the bad one) my son attended based EVERYTHING on TAKS. Most schools wont even allow a child to be tested for Learning disabilites until they FAIL the TAKS. My son's IQ is "above Normal" Even with reading at a 3rd grade level in 6th grade he still managed to pass a 6th grade TAKS reading test as well as all the others. BUT because he passed it along with every other TAKS test prior to that one the school tried to refuse to test him for Dyslexia. The whole system is based on TAKS . My son and every other childs abilities are NOT Souley based or shown on one test. Sorry but I thought that's what report cards and Final Exams were for ?? Mindy

This is what I do not like about it, Im curious to see what the teachers think . I do not like that TAKS because to ME it is NOT Standardized. The TAKS test is what the state thinks your child SHOULD Be learning or what your child should be taught. HOWEVER NOT all children learn the same. For instance, In high school there are 3 or 4 different graduation plans that a child can take. One for children not college bound, One for Children who are college bound but for Techinchical/Vocational Schools , one for College bound students and one for "Excellerated" ( im sure that's not the right wording) students Pre AP Type kids. OK .... The TAKS test is Geared for Kids who are on the last graduation plan IMHO . At the VERY LEAST its geared for kids who are headed towards college. You might say " SO what" . My issue. NOT all children are Learning the same material so WHY is there not 4 TAKS tests. If your testing them on what they SHOULD have learned? Another example. I came [ ] close to NOT graduating because of the TAAS( back then same as TAKS NOW) . I Could NOT pass the math portion . Why ? I was 16 when i got pregnant with my son in high school , my school tried to kick me out to make me attend the "Alternative" School that had a daycare. I REFUSED, i told them i started here i'll graduate here. ( they didnt want a teen preg. stat in their rich middle class school ) SO because I had been not so great up until then I had little credits. They put me on a lower grad plan and put me in Fundementals of math class and a self paced program , I made up 3 yrs of work in a yr and half . The Math TAAS Test had CALCULUS On it . I HAD NEVER SEEN CALCULUS. I passed the test the LAST TIME I Could before graduation . Therefore after having a kid my Junior yr working my ASS off to graduate a damn test was goign to keep me from doing that and something I Was never taught at that ? I DONT THINK SO . MY other issue. The TAKS test does NOT Allow teachers to teach. The entire school year is set up around the TAKS test. its like the teachers whole year is ONLY To get kids to pass the TAKS test to get the schools money . SORRY I could go on ,,,,, Those are the basics for my resoning though. My son is dyslexic so school is much harder for him , I guess my thinking is why not make it fun , multi sensory , Hands on so others like him can LEARN and not DRILL This damn test into his head ..... IF teachers could go back to making teaching FUN Kids like mine could learn alot faster, and frankly like school alot more . Mindy:eek:

I do not know a whole lot about Business But from what I do know , business' are NOT In good shape who do this . Bankcrupcy Maybe not but they may be doing this to AVOID bankcrupcy . If GM is having to form a partnership with another group that to me does not sound good either. I am not sure how your husband can work for GM and not know about this ? Mindy
