  1. I'm curious about this "stall" thing, being the kind of person who likes to know how things work. I have a new scale that shows %water and % body fat, as well as weight. After I have my sleeve, I'm going to track all of those parameters and just see if maybe the water weight is going up when I stall. If muscle mass goes up from increased exercise, I think %water weight might go up too...but am not sure. Since many of you are recording continued loss of inches during a stall, it might just be that you are losing fat and gaining muscle during that time. Any expert physiologists out there have a clue?

    Complications after Sleeve Surgery

Haley, How are you feeling today? Please keep us up on how you're doing. Know that many thoughts and prayers are coming your way, for healing.
  4. Congratulations Tiffy, on another milestone! I am so glad you are doing well!
  5. Photo Steve said: "Be careful with lentil or bean soups cause the shells can cause some real discomfort" Darn. I love bean soup. Sometimes I take a can of beans and blend them with a little milk, and that is a meal. Do a lot of you have trouble with beans, even blended? There are tiny pieces of the skin in the soup. I have not been sleeved yet but will be before long! Just getting all my ducks (and beans) in a row!
  6. Well, sounds like the "hid-a-key" worked!!! (smile) Seriously, I think that the nutritional, metabolic and other changes that go along with this journey are bound to affect us mentally until we get back on a maintenance nutritional intake that feeds the neurons really well with at least 1200 calories a day. The brain on 800 calories is just going to act like a brain on 800 calories. I'm expecting to laugh at myself a lot over the next year. I can tolerate it in order to get where I want to be in weight.

    Crazy ichy ???

I found some references that discuss itching after intrathecal(spinal) morphine. Apparently 40-60% of patients were found to have itching. google "intrathecal morphine pruritis" and you will find articles.

    What's on your mind?

I was responding to a post by someone who said they thought yogurt tasted like "rotten gravy"!!! It's easy to see how someone who does not like it might think it tastes like sour milk...but gravy? I don't know. Anyway, I like it myself! glad you got a laugh out of my post!
  9. Those of you who had Aceves for your surgeon, how long did it take to get approved for the surgery after you submitted your history forms? Thanks.
  10. Yes, I did on Friday. Have not heard anything yet. Guess I'll email Nina. Thanks.

    Over Did it...

How about a papaya shake, with yogurt and papaya and ff milk blended into a liquid? Years ago my surgeon recommended this after a surgery (not WLS), to promote healing. It worked for me.

    B.C. Pills

I am not on BC pills but if I were, after reading your story I would stop taking them about three months before surgery, at the END of a pack, and go live on a deserted island where I could not do any damage for two months! What an awesome husband you have! He deserves a hundred gold stars. And you do too for being smart enough to choose him! Hang in there, HORMONE MANIA shall pass and you will be so happy with your outcomes from surgery!

    caffeine

Caffeine...diuretic or not... I did some more research after McMad's post...interesting findings: "Caffeine is a mild diuretic, but the urinary output effects attributed to caffeine have frequently been exaggerated. Recent research has found that the minimal diuretic effects of caffeine do not compromise overall body hydration status in healthy women." SOURCE: Caffeine & Women's Health AND "Some research has shown that caffeine intake can also affect our Fluid balance"...(however) "Back in 1928, caffeine was shown to have no significant impact on urinary output. Subsequent studies have shown that caffeine-containing beverages did not impact urinary output any differently than other beverages. Based on this, the Institute of Medicine recommends that "unless additional evidence becomes available indicating cumulative total Water deficits in individuals with habitual intakes of significant amounts of caffeine, caffeinated beverages appear to contribute to the daily total water intake similar to that contributed by noncaffeinated beverages." (this is an ancient study...1928!) SOURCE: Caffeine Health Effects, Facts, Statistics, Addiction and Withdrawal on MedicineNet.com SO...."I stand corrected". Thanks, Mc Mad

    Heartburn?

    Ck with your doctor.

    Heartburn?

If you still have your gallbladder, and if it flares up, it is common to have pain under the right shoulder blade. If that's the case, see your doc as soon as possible.
  21. ZSFlower: The "pinhole" theory makes sense...but I would suppose they had more leaks before they started doing the oversewing, so it has continued as a practice (for some). If the stats that come out of using glue for a couple of years turn out to be better, I guess they will eventually all switch to glue. It's all about getting better and better at a relatively new procedure. Thanks for the info.
  22. I have read on blogs that this is controversial but am yet to see ANYTHING discussing the issue in the professional literature that I have reviewed.
  23. Rebekah: I am just curious: How can oversewing cause infection? Also, there is always swelling after cutting out a portion of the stomach, whether oversewing is done or not. Does your surgeon think there is MORE swelling after an oversew than if the staple line is just glued? Have not had my VSG yet, but am wanting to learn everything I can about this before hand so I ask good questions when I get to the point of talking to a surgeon. Have not seen any literature looking at this issue...if you know of any I'd like to read it. Thanks.

    caffeine

I'm not sure if caffeine is an appetite stimulant or depressant, but I am sure that is dehydrating!
