  1. I wonder if there's a difference b/t branches and also b/t officer v. enlisted. I've thought I've read its easier if you want to be a chaplain or JAG. I'm going to try out for the AF JAG program - I've read people who are getting waivers for knee surgery and being practically legally blind. Plus, the military is now offering to pay for lapband to some of its members - do a google search. You'd think w/2 wars they'd let people in.
  2. Tomorrow I start on the mushy portion of the diet. I wish my incisions were thru my belly button. I have 2.5 inch scar right up front under the rib cage.
  3. Banded on the 23rd. I was tired the 1st week and wondered what I got myself into. I feel better now. Just living off Campbell's soup - some are soooo yummy like Fiesta Nacho and Shrimp Cheese. Add the milk & you get tons of protein.
  4. Oddly enough, my doctor said later on I could eat brown rice, really surprised me.
  5. I am in the liquids stage - I eat M&M's. well - the plain small one - I let ab 4 or 5 just melt completely in my mouth. I'm sooo bad.
  6. I had friends who really stepped up and helped me in every way possible (I didn't tell my family). The one person who hasn't even checked up on me is my close friend who had gastric bypass. No phone calls, emails, or even facebook wall post. She lost so much weight and I was excited for her back in the day but she since has gained most of it back - she even hides pizza and other goodies from her DH. When I called her after my surgery - she barely spoke 10 minutes to me. It was very awkward and she kept quiet.
  7. Holla! 3L here. I hope all is well with you. 1 week post op I carried some heavy grocery bags. I felt weird but definitely not the distended port area you speak of.
  8. OH HALLELUJAH! I forgot we could have mashed potatoes in the mushy stage.. you guys just made my week. Now I have something to look forward to in my last liquid wk stage.
  9. I'm 28. I am 5 feet 9/220 pounds -> want to get down to 140. I've only told a few close friends - not my family who all said I just needed more willpower. I had the lap band on 8/23/09 - a week ago. Today was the 1st day I could get out of bed and do some errands w/o feeling like I was going to faint from being tired. I'm really excited to get this journey started - I want to be able to lose enough weight to interview for the Air Force Officer program next year. This forum has been a huge help! It's nice to know everyone is so supportive and nice!
  10. I'm on day 6 of 14 w/these shots and honestly I am running out of places on my stomach where to inject myself. Every 8 hrs an injection. My stomach looks like I have dots all over it. I've had 2 previous surgeries & never had any clots or had to give myself shots. I tried to inject my thigh and nearly jumped 3 feet in the air it stung so much.
  11. I live by myself and just this 1st week post op of liquid hell I am obviously not eating out at all so I've saved atleast $50. I am also hoping to save money since I'm a self pay.
  12. Thats me exactly minus the vitamins. I am 4 days out of surgery and I am sooooo tired. This clear liquid diet suuuucks. I have no energy. Tell me life gets better!
  13. Just banded today and these food commercials are just waaay too much. Pizza and chicken alfredo pasta for me,
  14. Update: NO NAUSEA. The anastesiologist was a wonderful lady and actually getting my wisdom teeth pulled was worse. I was nervous before but as you can see my surgery at 9:40 am today and now its 1pm. No gas pain no nausea. Just a little sore around the port area.
  15. So my surgery is tomorrow and I AM SCARED TO DEATH! Not of the actual surgery so much but the nausea. To me that is the absolute worst feeling in the world. Anyways, I found a prior patient with the Dr's office who was willing to help me back. I'm actually surprised about medications such as the 14 days of heparin injections you have to do to yourself. Sometimes I'm like what the heck am I doing?!
  16. My surgery is this Friday too! Good Luck! I am glad to get it over with - I've been saying good bye to all my favorite foods too.
  17. Hmmm, I've had a previous surgery and I was required to have someone. I was originally scheduled to have the surgery in Mexico and no one was required there. I switched to having the surgery in Texas and I called a few hours ago and they told me that I am not required to have someone. Thanks guys for the ideas about having a patient advocate - I'll look into that.
  18. Awesome post - Can't believe you guys are typing after your surgery. In a futile attempt I had lipo done and I was in so much pain for a week. My lapband surgery is next week and it's good to hear everyone's story. Thanks! and congrats!
  19. Totally jealous of you early August Bansters! My surgery isn't till next Friday the 21st. As for the lady who hasn't had a bowel movement since the 30th -have you tried the Fiber mix you can find anywhere - you cant taste and you can put it in your Water and disappears clear?
  20. Hi, I had 2 friends cancel on going with me due to work. My surgery is August 21 in San Antonio w/Dr. Rincon. I will be returning August 23rd by plane. I think the only nervous part is I hope they don't boot me out of the hospital into a taxi while I'm still in pain or have nausea. I've heard people who have done it alone? I'd like to hear your thoughts if you're out there? Thanks!
  21. I thought there was a place in Roswell. Let me know if you find a place as I am in Atlanta too.
  22. Yup, I was wondering about this myself. Oxycodone makes me loopy in a bad way: racing thoughts/heartbeat and nausea. I recently had to go to the dentist and they gave me some dark red pills that were indeed quite pleasant. No wonder there's a no refill by federal law. Anyone know what that could be??
  23. I am saying good bye to all my favorite foods so not really heeding the diet. My BMI is 32.7. I am not too worried about my liver esp. since I don't drink alcohol. The 6 week liquid diet shouldn't be a problem since I am scared to death of getting things stuck, puking, and band slippage. I'm self pay.
  24. August 21st @ Dr. Rincon's in San Antonio. Self pay -$11k. Start Pre-Op diet soon. BMI 33.
  25. Hi, going in 2 weeks to be banded at Dr. Rincon's . It looks like I will be by myself. Hope everything turns out well with the surgery..
