Looking for Dr Spivak's Patients
I was hungry after the first week day and night until I got on solids and had my first fill at 4 weeks post op. Since then I have had no hunger at all. The head hunger is getting better too.

Looking for Dr Spivak's Patients
I think if I had done 2 weeks of liquids I would have lost faster. I only lost 13 from surgery to 4 weeks when I went in for fill. But Dr. Spivak told me 48 hours on liquids, then mushies for 4 weeks so that is what I did. But I did enjoy the mash potatoes during the mushies stage. I go Tuesday for my 2nd fill. Right now I am at 25 lbs lost at 9½ weeks post op. I might be a slow loser. But Dr. Spivak said it was good.

scared
I started out close to the same size but add 28 years on top of it, I am 48. I also have a slight blood pressure problem and have had no problems. I have extreme anxiety that I take meds for. So I know about being scared. I wanted this so bad that I would have gone to the hospital by myself to get it done and rode the bus home if I had to. I wanted it!! When I was in the prep room before surgery I had to wait about 30 minutes and thought I was going to have a panic attack. I did my breathing techniques and prayed to try to relax myself. I had not drank anything since midnight the night before and I had to get out of bed 3 times in that 30 minutes and have a nurse carry my IV to the restroom. I was pretty scared. So when the Dr. came in to check on me I told him my anxiety was really high so they gave me a litlle something in my IV to help and it did. Then I was fine when they wheeled me into the Surgery room and then with in a minute I was out and woke up in the recovery room realized what I had just been through and started having a panic attack so they instantly gave me something and it calmed me right down. I did not say all this to scare you, but so you can see even if you are very, very scared and full of anxiety that they will take care of you. I would do it again in a minute. I think it is one of the best things I ever did, wish I would have done it when I was your age.

Oh, it hurts
I agree with this I was told no rice or Pasta because it swells later. I know a lot of people eat it but I do not.

New to lapband talk
I am a baby when it comes to pain and it was not that bad at all. I had more anxiety than pain. I think I must be a slow loser because I have only lost 25 lbs and I am 9½ weeks post op. But I have only had one fill at 4 weeks post op (2cc). I go Tuesday for my second. The good thing about the first fill was it took away any hunger I had. So far I have had no problems and would do again in a minute! Slow loser or not I will take the 25 lbs lost and walk away happy. Good luck to you!!!

Is God real?
Nice Pattygreen I like that. You sound like a very nice person and now I see the difference between that person and a strong debater!

Plateau all ready?
I am close to you in surgery dates and I have only lost 25lbs so far. I have had one fill 2cc and go Tuesday for my second. I think you are doing good. Just keep an eye on what type of food you might be eating and try to drink that water. I hate water but now that is all I drink but I still hate it. Hang in there it will start up again!!

Thank You All - You Understand
Dr. Hagar Spivak in Houston is who I used. I was self pay and payed $12,900 and that was for everything including fills and aftercare for one year. He is very nice and his staff is too. He has a website. Look him up he comes very highly recommend that is why I picked him. Since I was selfpay and in good health I had surgery 2 days after consultant. Had first Dr. visit for $100.00 right after free seminar.

Missing Periods?
Oh I hope that will be a side effect for me!!! I took Provera years ago and I liked it but the first time I took it I passed out within a few minutes. It made me very sleepy everytime I took it for the first three days each cycle.

pills to crush or not to crush
I was told to crush everything. And I did for the first month. But it was horrible I had to open capsules and just pour them in my mouth. I take a lot of pills a day and for the past month I have just started breaking them ½ and down they go. I was told they would just sit in pouch too and probably repeated it to, but one of mine is a sleep pill and I can feel when it starts working so I know they go down one way or another. I am trying to follow everything my Dr. says but on that I changed. Also be sure not to crush anything that is time released.

woohoo!!
Welcome to the site. Congratulations on your Approval and Surgery date. November will come before you know it. I know it will come fast because my birthday is in November and I will be 49 and it is coming fast. I have been married for 29 years to a man who eats all day long and never gains a pound not in 29 years. He has gotten gray hair and some wrinkles but never gained any weight. I on the other had have struggled with my weight since I was a teenager. I have had a GREAT experience with the band so far I hope you have the same. I have Grandbabies also both girls. One 3 years old and one 3½ months old, sisters. I only have one child, a son whom is a great young man and a lovely sweet daughter-in-law. I hope times passes fast for you. But seems slow for me cause 49 is getting too close. Keep in touch!!

My first post op meal
I felt some restriction from the swelling until I started on mushies and then for 3 weeks I was hungry all the time. I still manage to lose some weight on mushies. But after I had my first fill only 2cc at 4 weeks post op. I could still eat with no problem but there was no hunger at all and that has been almost six weeks ago and I still have no hunger. I eat 2 or 3 small meals a day. No protein shakes because my Dr. wants us to eat protien not drink it so it stays in the stomach. But if you can just get through until you have a fill you will start to feel so different. I go for a second filll next Tuesday and we will see what that will bring. Good luck recovering it will all be worth it.

Anxious
Maybe with your family history that will help you with this situation. Just talk to your surgeon and explain your concerns and maybe he can help you find a way. Think positive!
