  1. Okay time for an update from all July 2009 Bandsters. I am down 80 lbs and would like to lose 20 more if possible. How about everyone else? Cheri
  2. I eat the Morning Star sausage patties on and off since I was banded. I could eat them better the first 6 months. Now at 14 months out I can still eat them but must go very slow and chew well. I love them!!!! Cheri
  3. My Dr. said to stay away from the Bullets (GNC) as they were not good for your Kidneys? Not sure why but just passing it along. I drank them on weeks when I had a hard time getting all my protien in. They taste bad but it is only a small amount and you can drink just half and close them back up and put in icebox if you want to. Cheri
  4. I hate vomiting too. I have suffered many nights over the years when my stomach hurt instead of vomiting and getting it over with. I have been banded for 14 months down 80 lbs and for some reason I have vomited on and off since I was first banded. Not from being too tight but from my own mistakes. First year of being banded when I would get stuck it NEVER went down it always came up. Some of it was my fault not chewing good, eating too big of bites, etc. , but I think some of it is just my body, my gag reflex. Now finally in the last few months when I get stuck it takes a few minutes but it does go down feels so funny to me for it to go down. Do not let your fear stop you from getting Banded, you might vomit some or you may never vomit at all, I have Banded friends banded longer than me and have never vomited at all. Everyone is different and everyone's body is different. But I think you should know it might happen, but you will live through it I have. I love my band even when it does not do just what I want it to. Cheri
  5. I live in Hitchcock, Texas and I have done Graphics for 25 years. Wow there are a lot of nurses on here. My daughter-in-law is a nurse and I agree nurses are so busy caring for others that they don't have time to take care of themselves.
  6. I totally agree!! Sure the fast weightloss would be nice, but not worth the risk. Cheri
  7. My friend who is also banded uses it in homemade protien shakes and also anthing she cooks, she grinds it up. She aways puts it in her meatballs and they are yummy! Cheri
  8. 6 years ago I started on Zoloft for 3 years and changed to many different ones before I came back to Zoloft. It is a great med. It does cause you to be sick to your stomach the first couple of weeks but then it passes. The only bad side effect is the drymouth, but helps you drink your Water. And there is some sexual side effects also. But after it builds to full strenght at 4 - 6 weeks it will help you. I take meds for clinical depression and another for anxiety and had no trouble since getting banded taking them. I also had panic attacks several times a week but since being banded I have only had 2 in 14 months. Also stay away from grapefruit in any form. Cheri
  9. I too have been banded by Dr. Spivak. In July 2009. I love him and all of his staff. He is a special Dr who really cares about you one month after surgery and one year after surgery. Cheri
  10. I do vomit and have on and off since I got the band. I go into the dry heaves sometimes after vomiting. Most times I bring it on myself by not chewing good enough. I am more than year out and food has just gotten where it will go down instead of up everytime. As far as the weightloss slowing down. When that happened to me and I had to switch to low carb, NOT no carb just low carb and I have continued to lose. Cheri
  11. I had no idea so many people have lost that much with the band. That is great!! I do love my Band and am so happy to have it, but . . .I still might have gone the other way if I had the money who knows? Just research and really do talk to people they will give you their story about the WLS. Cheri
  12. It does not work everytime for me either, but when it does I am happy for the knowledge. Cheri
  13. Wow, I bet he felt better after he got all that off of his chest. I have been band over a year and I get tired of the same old topics too, but a year ago that was me asking for information and people answered my posts and help me so I say help where you can and be nice. There is a lot of nastiness on here sometimes too. Cheri
  14. I have been married 30 years and told my husband right before surgery. I made him swear he would never tell anyone. After surgery when I knew I was going to lose at least some weight I told my son when he asked. My daughter-in-law said do not ask your mother that, but I told him but they were told to keep it to themselves. If I am at a support group meeting I have no problem telling anyone starting and current weight because we are all in the same boat. But my husband is still the same weight (150) as when we got married 30 years ago. But now everytime I lose a pound I announce it to him. I went from 251 to currently 173 and still trying to lose. Cheri
  15. I say sleep anyway you can. My Doc never told me anything about sleeping. Cheri
  16. I have been banded about 14 months. I have lost from 251 to 173. When I had lost 65 lbs my Surgeon said to take it easy from here on out. I told him I still wanted and needed to lose weight. He said I was a sucess, I had loss more than 50% of my excess weight and that is really all the surgery is expected to do. I have continued to lose weight slowly and would like to get to about 150. If I was in your position I would choose the gastric bypass but that is just my opinion. The reason is you should be able to lose more weight. But it does come with more risks. I have been exposed to a lot of people who had the bypass at support group during the last year and they all seem to do really good, if they take all their supplements and eat right. I would had done the bypass if I had the money, but I was self-pay and it was just too much. I love my band and have had really no problems at all. I have met people who have lost 100 lbs and one who lost 240 lbs with the band. I have also met someone who had the band and after 1 year she still was not losing even though she was following the rules so she had the bypass done and is so slim now and healthy but she is a nurse and does follow all the rules. Do your research on all WLS and talk to people who have had them and Drs too. Go to some support group meetings. At the support group meetings you find out alot of information from people who had the different surgeries and are living that life style. Good luck to you and if you are a praying person pray and pray for direction on which path to take. Cheri
  17. Keep looking for a Doctor who will do teenagers. There are alot of them. I wished I did it at your age. I think as long as you are mature enough to know what changes you are making to your body and that your eating will forever be different than before. Everyone is different but I think some counseling is good as you go through the change in the beginning. If you are like me you will be giving up your best friend (food)and getting a skinng body instead. It is so worth it if you want to work at it. Good luck to you I hope you find a Dr. to help you. I personally would not go out of the country to do it at your age. You need a Dr close to you. You are still growing and should have a good Dr. work with you. Cheri
  18. I am more than a year out and I love the food network. I do not know why but I love Cake Boss and I sit here and watch it knowing I can not eat cake. Funny!! Cheri
  19. My Dr.'s office called, but the hospital called me twice. I have my surgeon's cell phone also for emergencies. Cheri
  20. I posted it a few weeks ago it sounded crazy but it works, had to pass it along. Someone told me at a support group meeting about it. Cheri
  21. How much do you have to lose? I weighted 251 on the day of surgery and now 14 months later I am at 75 lbs lost. I might had done gastric bypass if I had the money, but I think the sleeve has pretty much the same loss as the band. Go to a different Doctor and get what you want. My doctor told me I would lose all my weight with gastric bypass and about 50% excess weight with band so I am passed that and still going so I think you should check out a nice Doctor. I used Dr Spivak in Houston and he has been great. Cheri
  22. I have had 5 fills but still only 4cc in 10cc band. Each and every fill has had a delayed reaction some hours some days, once about a week. Last one of just .5cc was a kick in the butt and still going strong months later. I may never need a fill again. I have lost 75 lbs so far would like 20 more if possible. Cheri Cheri
  23. I was self pay too. $12,999 including fills and office visits for a year. I would do it again in a minute. I put mine on a very low interest credit card. Cheri
